Summary
Geralt and Jaskier reside within the united royal court of the Northern Kingdoms, but as second-class citizens. Elf and mutant prejudices persist in the Church, reflected in its members.
An elf could rise no higher in society than a jester or balladeer, reduced to nothing more than a freak show after they were run out of the Continent. The forcibly mutated boys and girls always assumed their destined positions as court witchers, scorned and used.
Jaskier didn’t mind the role of court balledeer; it was leagues above other elves' fate–though, he’d be sure to join his brethren soon, lest his tales and ballads were entertaining enough.
Geralt never had even the illusion of choice. Once a witcher was bred, they’d serve as second-class royal monster hunters until they met their demise at the end of a blade. Those who demanded a witcher's creation were the ones who despised them most.
Both the bard and the witcher find a renewed yearning for a better life when a forcibly mutated elf princess from Cintra is placed in Geralt’s care.

Summary
Ciri is safely settled at the Temple of Melitele, and for now, she will focus on controlling her Chaos.
Much of Geralt's worries have been taken care of, as Ciri would be safe here; the Temple is known for its political neutrality, after all, but one gripe of Geralt's had yet to be dealt with.
Upon hearing from Yennifer that she had run into Jaskier in Oxenfurt not hours before she arrived at the Temple, Geralt travels to Redania in search of Jaskier. The guilt had been boring a hole in Geralt's consciousness since he had his dispute with Jaskier on the Niedamir Mountains, and he longed to have him back by his side and in his arms once more.
With Geralt's profession, he should have, but the witcher could never have guessed that his beloved would be knocking on death's door upon his arrival in Oxenfurt.
_____A canon-divergent universe where Geralt willingly goes to Oxenfurt to reconcile with Jaskier, and Rience takes torturing Jaskier for information on Geralt to a much more lethal height.
