Chapter Text
The door creaked open, lighting up the dark bedroom. The room was eerily silent, everything was still. Niki felt her heart beat faster, almost like it knew something she yet didn’t.
She peeked in, eyes focusing in on the darkness that made everything seem fuzzy.
As her gaze fell on the bed, Niki felt herself freeze in place.
It took all her will power for her body to move as she ran to the blood soaked bed.
“Alex,” she tried, shaking his shoulder gently.
No response.
Niki swallowed, her lungs felt tight as her eyes started watering, “Alex! Please Alex respond!” She raised her voice, grabbing onto his body and turning him towards her from his side.
She needed to check his pulse, yes. Niki took his cold, bloody hand, holding her fingers against his wrist.
Nothing.
Her hands shook. She must have checked it wrong, she kept trying, her hands sticky with the blood. The blood that was coating everything on his bed. The blood that made everything smell like copper.
She hoped, prayed this was all a nightmare, just a bad dream that she would wake up from any moment now.
Alex laid there, no sound, no movement, he just laid in the deafening silence.
“Please wake up,” Niki begged now, eyes stinging from holding her tears in.
She kept repeating it, as if it would change anything, as if Alex would open his eyes and smile like he always did, greet her and she could laugh and cry with relief.
Her hands grasped at his limp body, pulling him into her lap as she held onto him like he would disappear if she let go.
As her hand touched the back of his neck Niki grew paler, feeling her hands stick to his bloody skin and tangle in his hair.
All that blood, from one spot. From her best friend.
It made her feel sick.
Then Niki just broke down, she held onto him as she let out a scream of pure agony.
Even as the guards rushed in she clung to his lifeless body, wailing.
Why did he look so peaceful with a stab wound in his neck? Why wasn’t there a look of horror on his face, why didn’t the guards hear him scream for help.
Who could have done this? Who would ever hurt him?
Niki suddenly felt weak, her hands were pried off Alex and she was pulled away.
She was too exhausted to fight, so she let herself be held back.
The guard holding her was asking something, but she could hardly understand.
Everything just felt numb as she watched the guards rush in and out, yelling and turning Alex over to look at the wound.
Seemingly calming slightly, Niki realised she had to tell Sapnap.
She gathered all her energy, pulling out of the guards arms.
He asked if she was alright, but she walked out in silence, wiping her tears and leaving some of the blood on her face in doing so.
All her movements felt stiff as Niki knocked on Sapnap’s door.
It opened without resistance, leaving her to a still and silent room the second time that day.
Niki stepped in, breathing in deep to keep herself calm.
It was empty, no sight of Sapnap left.
The room looked like it had never been used, clean and tidy. Like the last month had been nothing but a dream that she had just woke from.
The only thing out of place was a piece of paper on his pillow.
Preparing herself, Niki sat down on the neatly made bed, brushing a few strands of hair behind her ear as she opened the note.
“Niki, I’m sorry, I hope you can forgive me.”
Her nails dug into the paper as her knuckles went white.
All Niki felt was pure anger. Her tear stained face red from crying now red from the hatred she felt in this moment.
Only one sentence and her world shattered.
Her best friend, someone she took in and cared for like family had murdered her best friend in cold blood.
She couldn’t even make a sound as she ripped the paper, before yelling in frustration.
He would pay.
