Chapter Text
“She looks so done with Tea’lc. This is the first time I see anyone so done with him!” exclaimed Colonel O’neill. He was standing on the observation deck together with General Hammond, Captain Carter, and Dr. Jackson. The deck was overlooking a huge room that had a bed, a small table and two chairs. Tea’lc was occupying one of the chairs. A girl was occupying the other. Unbrushed hair, band aids and bandages on her face and arms, wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt. But what was interesting was that girl did not speak English. And she came through the Stargate.
“I don’t know what number it makes, but I am telling you this again. I have no idea how I got here. I have no idea why you don’t understand me. I speak perfectly understandable English. I know for sure you speak the language as well,” the girl continued to wave her hands, clearly trying to make him see her point of view. Only what came out of her mouth was in no way understandable. “Oh, don’t raise your eyebrow at me, mister. I know some of your intimidation techniques!”
The girl had accentuated the last sentence pointing her index at him. As Tea’lc continued to stare at the girl she maintained the eye contact until resting her forehead on her forearms on the table with a thud. A heavy sigh was heard.
Teal’c raised his head to look at the observation deck and shook his head. The language sounded familiar, but he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
“I want you to figure out how she had managed to come here,” General Hammond ordered before leaving the observation deck.
“Easier said than done,” murmured Colonel O’neill.
“I think I know what the language is,” for the first time spoke Daniel from his corner on the deck. “Do you remember when Jack was taken in by the repository of the Ancients? And then he spoke the Ancient?”
“That mumbo-jumbo?”
“Yes,” sighed Daniel, sharing a small smile with Carter.
“Hardy har har... laugh it up you guys,” the colonel shook his head at his teammates. “But it basically means we sent the wrong guy to talk.”
“She had also arrived with some kind of device, this brick. I managed to turn on the screen. But I am locked out of it for the next few hours,” Carter added. “It seems to be both a communication device and a camera, but she might be willing to explain it?”
“Well, no time like now to test our theories…”
The door to the room opened with a whoosh, causing the girl to slightly jump in her seat. She looked up to see the newcomers, Captain Carter and Dr. Jackson, her eyes staying a bit longer on the language guru.
“Hey there, my name is Daniel Jackson,” the linguist waved his hand in friendly gesture and then pointed at himself when introducing himself. And then pointed at the girl. “And you are?”
“Are we really going to it like this, Daniel Jackson?” she cocked her head to the side observing the three fourths of the elite team. She uncurled her legs from the chair legs and crossed them, settling into lotus position. “Okay, Barbara.”
“Nice… met you,” replied Daniel. Barbara just nodded, making the awkward smile. Carter brought out the device, noting the immediate lighting up of the girl’s eyes.
“Yes, it had survived!” cheered the girl, making grubby hands towards the device Captain was holding in her hands. “Can I have it back, please? I know that we are at your military secret base, and I am an unknown with a technology that seems far more advanced than what you have but I can assure you that in approximately 15 years, you will have similar. Maybe even less time. Considering you already should have mobile phones and the technology will be evolving really fast now most likely less then…”
The girl quickly started rambling, her speech less then legible. Captain Carter cleared her throat bringing an end to the rambles.
“Sorry.”
“Look, all I am saying is that I don’t understand why you keep insisting I speak the language of Ancients, when I clearly understand you, and you, and you, and I keep hearing myself speaking in English!”
“I understand that, but it is what all of us hear!” replied Daniel Jackson, scratching the crown of his head.
“It is clear that this brings us nowhere though. You have to translate to everybody else. I don’t know how to explain it to them. And apparently to you as well. I went to sleep in my bed, on Earth in year 2021. I liked a post on Facebook and put the phone on bed. Next thing I know I am falling through the Gate and greeted by the P-90, MI-16 and a zat-gun.”
Dr. Jackson scrunched his face as the memory of their guest comes to mind.
The sirens were blearing as the Marines rushed into the Gate Room.
“I am unable to close the Iris,” relayed Sergeant Harriman, furiously typing on his keyboard. Captain Carter who had just arrived to the controls had joined behind another computer trying to help and close the only thing that protects from unwanted guests.
The Gate was finally activated and with an iconic “whoosh” sound had established the wormhole. General Hammond who had also arrived to the Control room held his eyes glued to the Gate horizon.
“Sir, we should expect an arrival in 15… 10… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…”
A body flew through the Stargate, rattling the ramp and continuing down it. As the body traveled down the ramp all the weapons in the room below were trained on the rolling body. Colonel O’Neill and Te’alc had joined the floor teams just as the body stopped moving. Small whimpering was heard from the body as it started to uncurl and a form of a young woman, no, a teen, was recognized, clothed in really short shorts and a dark T-shirt with some kind of faded out pictures.
A zat-gun opened and the girl froze, twisting her head to look at the Jaffa who held the gun trained on her.
“Hello!”
