The Cellar

Summary:

[Day 5: Alternate Universe & Hurt/Comfort]

There is a creature that haunts the ruins of a town on Aq Vetina. Boba Fett is charged with getting rid of it.

When he finds it, he figures, well, he never said how he'd do it.

Work Text:

Boba's no longer interested in fighting. The ground is not the ground, nor are those dead vines growing on the rubble. He hovers, trying to find a clear place to land. He's soon forced to concede to dropping on the outskirts, where it's not as concentrated.

The not-ground scratches near his boots, growing damp. Boba removes his helmet to See better, nodding when his senses are confirmed. What locals call burnt grass is fur; the dampness is saliva pouring from mouths and fanged eyes.

In seconds, the town is revealed: a scorch-marked ruin, dotted with ashen circuitry and decomposed bones. Seems this had been one of the Empire's many stops in conquering Aq Vetina. But Boba's pretty sure other places aren't "cursed" like this.

"You're not an infection at all," Boba says, cautiously making his way into town, "Not the work of an Imp either."

It's easy to find the thing's hiding spot. There are two corpses who still have meat and clothes on their bones. Humans, male and female, frozen in agony beside cellar doors. Boba's not put off by their rot.

"Your parents?" he murmurs.

The cellar doors vibrate with a mournful cosmos.

Boba nods. "My father was killed too. Beheaded." He faces the cellar. "He was like us. Like you."

Silence.

"You thought you were alone, didn't you?" Boba crouches, cradling his father's helmet. "You're not." He smirks. "More than half the galaxy's scared of me, but you don't have to be. That's a promise."

...the doors peek open. An army of eyes peers at Boba, most with suspicion, some with sorrow, and a precious few with hope, the desperate kind.

Boba holds out his hand.
