Chapter Text
The night was young in a ballroom in Seoul, South Korea. The clinking of wine glasses and hushed whispers of gossip melodically intertwining with the soft jazz music coming from the jazz band playing in the middle of the large, luxurious looking ballroom.
William Miller, the CEO of Luminous, a make up brand originating in the United States, sat upon a luxurious cushioned chair on a high platform. From said platform, he could see all that was happening in the party. Ever plate served, every chair moved, every attendant’s laugh. He saw it all.
The party was organized by him in celebration of Luminous expanding their brand to South Korea.
The attendants included many high-ranked individuals, many of which were probably millionaires. William laughed happily with his friends up in his platform, oblivious to the fact that this was the last party he would ever experience.
In the crowd of attendants was a girl in a beautiful silk dress who was sipping on her wine, her eyes glued to the clock on a wall in the ballroom.
The girl was Park Chaeyoung, an assassin sent to kill William Miller because the said man had failed to pay her boss back.
Unbeknownst to those around her, Chaeyoung wasn’t even invited to the party. She had snuck in with a forged invitation and had got in easily, the drunk guards at the front entrance not even bothering to check if the invitation was real.
She watched the second hand of the fancy clock with great interest, her grip on her glass tightening with each second that passed.
When the clock struck 10:25 PM, she smiled and whispered to herself, “Showtime.”
She snuck out of the crowd and passed the guards guarding the stairs to the platform where William sat, making up an excuse that she was a close friend to William. The guards believed her as Chaeyoung’s dress was incredibly expensive.
She crouches under the stairs, waiting for a go signal.
It was quiet, the faint whispers of the attendants being the only thing the girl could hear. It was near silent at least until—
“Rosie! What are you doing here?!”
Chaeyoung flinched, the familiarity of the voice surprising her. She slowly looked up to see an equally shocked Jennie Kim in a dress as rich-looking as hers.
Jennie Kim was an assassin under a company rival to Chaeyoung’s. She was also one of Chaeyoung’s girlfriends but that’s a story for another time.
“Oh, don’t tell me…” Jennie groans and it makes Chaeyoung giggle. “William scammed your boss too?”
“Looks like it.” Jennie grumbles.
Chaeyoung stood up, standing up to place a kiss on the shorter’s pouty lips.
“Hey! Don’t do that out of nowhere!” Jennie whines and causes Chaeyoung to giggle harder.
“I missed you. Lisa and Jisoo as well. You have no idea how boring it was being at this party.”
Jennie rolls her eyes. “I think I have a bit of an idea.” She says sarcastically causing Chaeyoung to blush out of embarrassment, completely forgetting that Jennie had experienced as much of the party as her.
Suddenly a kiss was placed on her lips.
“So what does your company have in store for Miller tonight?” Jennie asks with a smirk, trailing her finger up and down Chaeyoung’s dress.
“O-Oh.” Chaeyoung blushes at the sensual touches. “Well the lights are gonna go out in a minute and I’m gonna sneak in and—“ Then her eyes narrow as Jennie plays with the bow tying her dress together. “…you’re trying to distract me aren’t you?” She asks with a skeptical eyes earning a shrug from Jennie.
“Of course. It’s obvious we’re both here to kill the same person and I am obviously getting that kill.” Jennie says with a cocky grin earning a glare.
“No, you are absolutely not—!”
Suddenly the lights in the ballroom explode letting the silky curtains and sheepskin rugs catch fire.
It was now pitch dark, all that could be heard was scared screams and panicked yelling.
Chaeyoung squints, frowning as she sees Jennie’s shadow run ahead through the dark near to where a currently panicking William was, knife in hand. She clearly had an intention to kill him and that greatly annoyed Chaeyoung.
‘This is my kill!’ She frowns.
Out of nowhere, she suddenly grabs Jennie hand, and with her strength, pushes her against the wall. Jennie glares up at her trying to escape but, as much as she hated to admit it, Chaeyoung was just a lot stronger than her.
“Rosie, what the hell—?!”
Chaeyoung presses her lips to Jennie’s whose eyes widen, obviously shocked at the forward action the normally shy Chaeyoung did.
It was like all those spy movies with the sound of screams of pain and fire in the background of what should have been a romantic kiss.
Chaeyoung pulled away leaving Jennie in a daze, wondering what the hell just happened. “Love you.” Chaeyoung whispered, sounding a little apologetic and flustered herself.
While Jennie was off staring into space, Chaeyoung ran up the stairs quickly, pressing a gun to William’s head and immediately shooting him dead, his body dropping to the floor with a thunk. Due to the power being out, no one could see that William Carter was now dead, the gunshots making the screams increase in volume.
When she walked down the stairs, she saw Jennie pouting up at her, obviously upset.
“Fuck you.” Jennie spits causing Chaeyoung to chuckle nervously.
Though admittedly she wasn’t all that nervous. She and their girlfriends all knew that Jennie was all bark but no bite. When they got home, Jennie would definitely be all over them as if she wasn’t all “I will divorce you.” an hour ago.
“I’m so sorry…but you gotta admit what I did made me look cool, right?” Chaeyoung asks with a cheeky smile, Jennie rolling her eyes. “Even if I did think that was hot, I’m still mad.”
“Sorry…” Chaeyoung repeats sheepishly as the two walk out the burning ballroom, screams of fear and police sirens accompanying them as they walked back to their apartment.
Admittedly, Chaeyoung was a little afraid now as Jennie wasn’t bothering to talk to her on their way back to their apartment. While they were holding hands, the younger could still tell Jennie was a little pissed.
‘Oh well. It’ll all blow over anyways.’ Chaeyoung tells herself, a nervous smile spread across her face.
Both Jennie and Chaeyoung enter a beautiful looking apartment building, taking the elevator up to the top floor. When they unlock and open the door to their comfortable, modern-looking apartment, they see their other girlfriend, Jisoo, sitting on the couch.
Her head snaps up to them when she hears the door open.
“Who won this time?” Jisoo asks expectantly as if she has seen this scene many times before. Even before either of them could say anything, Jisoo had already figured out who won by the way Jennie was pouting in her direction.
“It was unfair.” Jennie says with a frown, Jisoo chuckling. “So I assume you lost?”
She stands up to press a kiss to both a grumpy Jennie’s and a sheepish Chaeyoung’s lips.
“Ooh! Who won?”
The three girls looked over at the kitchen where Lisa’s, their fourth and final girlfriend, head was peaking out from behind the wall.
“Don’t.” Jennie growls threateningly making Lisa laugh, the maknae of their relationship skipping over to the whiteboard pinned to the wall of their apartment happily, the whiteboard titled ‘Number of kills’.
“Ah. Jennie unnie lost. Got it.” She says with a shit-eating grin, grabbing a whiteboard marker and giving another point to Chaeyoung who was labeled ‘ROSIE’
Oh and also if you haven’t read the summary;
First of all, weird.
Second of all, all four of them are assassins under different companies. This has, of course, spiked a lot of competition between them as they were usually assigned to kill the same person, sometimes even on the same night like what happened with Jennie and Chaeyoung.
This is how what they called the ‘Kill Scoreboard’ was made. And some of them took it very seriously. One of them included Jennie.
Looking at the whiteboard, Jennie was actually in the lead if it weren’t for the point given to Chaeyoung. Now, they were neck and neck.
“Wow! Nice job Rosie!” Lisa exclaims to Chaeyoung who smiles shyly at the acknowledgment, red tinting her cheeks. Looking back at the whiteboard, Lisa whistles. “But damn, unnie. And I had so much faith in you…no offense, Rosie.” A small yet chipper, “None taken.” being heard from Chaeyoung.
“I hate all of you.” Jennie mumbles making Lisa blow a kiss at her. “I love you too unnie!”
This makes Jennie sigh out of annoyance. She was about to make another protest but seeing everyone staring at her with either shit-eating grins or shy smiles, it made her just sigh in the end.
“It sucks that I can’t even stay mad at any of you for long.” She shakes her head making Jisoo and Lisa giggle mischievously and Chaeyoung sigh out of relief.
“Fine. I accept defeat.” Jennie grumbles making everyone cheer.
“Well then!” Lisa exclaims as she claps her hands together. “Now that we got that over with, let’s go eat! I made kimchi-jjigae and…” She rambles as she makes her way into the kitchen, skipping happily as she does.
Jennie blinks. “You…you let her cook?” She whispers, sounding shocked. Jisoo shakes her head at this and glares. “Why on earth would you suggest that? Of course not. She just set the table.” She whispers back in an offended tone making Jennie sigh out of relief.
Jisoo walks over to the kitchen, saying that she’ll make sure Lisa doesn’t spill the soup all over the floor and herself or some kind of disaster like that.
Jennie chuckles, amused at her girlfriends but before she could take another step towards the kitchen, arms wrap around her waist and she feels herself leaning against soft silk material.
“I love you.” She can hear Chaeyoung mumble into her shoulder making a small smile spread across her face.
She can feel the guilt in Chaeyoung’s voice and it admittedly made her a little guilty as well.
If she won, she would be celebrating and shoving it into everyone’s faces but Chaeyoung was definitely a lot more quiet about the win. Even a little guilty about it. Jennie’s angry facade must have been a little too good.
Wanting to let Chaeyoung know that she was forgiven and that she was never mad in the first place, Jennie turns to her and places a kiss on her lips. “I love you too…”
This causes Chaeyoung to smile widely.
Suddenly, Lisa’s head peaks out of the kitchen once again, her yell interrupting their moment. “Also go take a shower Rosie, you look and smell disgusting!” She exclaims unapologetically, Chaeyoung’s pout making both Jennie and Jisoo burst out laughing.
“Right…”
