Chapter Text

Alberto and Luca returned from their honeymoon feeling energized and refreshed. They had traveled to France, spending a week in Chamonix to hike and enjoy the outdoors, and a week in Paris to enjoy the museums, dining, and fine art. It had been their first trip outside the country, and it had been a wonderful change in scenery to mark the change in their relationship. Alberto was sitting at the small table in their tower bedroom, enjoying the morning light coming through the window while he sipped his espresso and filled out a form.

Luca walked over, still disheveled from bed. He was never going to be a morning person, it seemed. “What are you working on?”

“Oh, just finishing up the paperwork.”

“You sure you still want to do that?”

“Yeah. I’m sure.”

“You know it doesn’t matter one way or the other? Legally, I mean.”

“I know. That’s not why I want to do it.”

“You really want to be Alberto Paguro?”

“Alberto Marcovaldo Paguro.”

“You won’t miss being Alberto Scorfano?”

“Nah. Those Scorfano guys are real jerks.”

“I dunno. I knew a Scorfano when I was a kid.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“And?”

“And he wasn’t a jerk. He was the nicest boy I’d ever met. Always tried to make sure I was having fun. Helped me learn new things. Great listener.”

“Well, he does sound OK, I guess.”

“Kind of dumb sometimes, though.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. Did you know he once got up early to do paperwork when his husband was lying naked in bed? I don’t know how some people function when—” Luca was cut off and reduced to laughter as Alberto stood up and slung his husband over his shoulder. The documents could wait until more important business had been settled.
