Work Text:

Techno barely talked with his parents, only calling once every few months.

Their talks were always a drain on Techno, with him telling them everything that had happened since the last time they had talked, and them making unnecessary comments, most asking why he still didn’t have a girl or boyfriend yet. They never failed to bring up the fact that it might be because he was an omega and not an alpha.

Techno hated talking with them, because it always made him feel worse about herself. They always managed to bring up old insecurities and make current ones worse.

The last time they had talked, they had brought up the fact that his voice was much too deep for an omegas, bringing up an insecurity he hadn’t thought about since his first year of high school. Their calls were always a pain.

The call for this month had been similar to past ones, except for the fact that Techno could finally tell them that he had a boyfriend.

He started off the call normally, just telling his parents that everything was going well and that he was doing well in his classes. But before they would normally hang up, he told them about Dream, his boyfriend.

His parents of course immediately assumed that Dream was a beta, so it was kinda nice for Techno to hear the shock in his parent’s voices when they found out that their son’s boyfriend was an alpha.

But, to Techno’s surprise, his parent’s said that they wanted to meet Dream. Saying how they should get to know their son’s boyfriend.

Techno, unfortunately, had no choice but to agree. His relationship with his parents was… rocky to say the least. But they were the ones paying his tuition, so he went along with what they said most of the time. To keep them happy.

So they set up a time, that weekend, for dinner at Techno’s parents house. After everything was planned and finalized, they said their goodbyes and hung up.

Techno set down the phone, and began to pace around the dorm. He was going to have to meet up and talk to his parents, which sucked. But, not only that, what would Dream say?

Would he even agree to go? And if he did, then what would Techno’s parents say?

Techno knew that this would be hard on himself mentally wise, with his parents always knowing how to make Techno feel worse about himself, but how would this be for Dream?

Depending on what they say and how they react to Dream, this could also be very hard for Dream.

Dream would worry if they said or reacted in a way that made him believe that they were disappointed. And, knowing his parents, Techno was sure that they wouldn’t think twice about saying it to his face.

And he knew that if that were to happen, then it could take ages to get Dream out of his own head. Whenever Dream spiraled like that, it always broke Techno’s heart to see him that way. To hear how he felt like he wasn’t good enough for Techno, that he was a mess up, or that he had to be perfect.

It hurt, because none of it was true. Dream wasn’t perfect, and that was ok, because in Techno’s eyes, he already was. In Techno’s eyes, Dream was smart, kind, sweet, loving, and everything in between. Because, he was good enough, he wasn’t a mess up, and he was already perfect.

Techno sighed and sat down on the couch. Apollo, their cat, jumped up to sit on Techno’s lap, and Techno began to absentmindedly pet him, wondering and worrying about the trip.

Techno brought his hand up to look at the watch on his wrist. He had about half an hour before Dream’s final class was over. So to pass the time, Techno grabbed the book he was currently reading off the coffee table in front of him.

“A tale for the time being.” That was the name of the book. He opened the book to where his book mark was and began to read where he had left off.

Becoming so engrossed in the book, that he barely noticed when the door of the dorm opened and Dream stepped inside. Apollo jumped off his place on Techno’s lap, and walked over to Dream, rubbing up against his leg.

“Hey, Apollo.” Dream bent down to pick up Apollo, and carried him to the living room. Dream sat down next to Techno, and Apollo made his way in between the two of them.

Techno read a few more sentences before placing the book back onto the coffee table, and turning a little to face Dream.

Techno placed little kisses on Dream’s cheek “Hey Dream.” Dream let out a little giggle.

“Hey Techno.” Dream gave him a smile, and Techno gave him one back.

“So, Dream, are you busy this weekend?” Techno knew the answer, but still wanted to ask, just to make sure.

“No, why?” Dream looked at Techno with curiosity.
“Well, you see, the thing is, my parents want to meet you. They called me about an hour or so before for the usual checkup they do every few months, and of course I told them about you. So they want to meet you… this weekend.” Techno finished nervously. Dream looked at Techno concerned.

“Of course I’ll go. But are you sure that this is a good idea?” Techno let out a little chuckle.

“Well, we have to get it over with. We might as well get it over with now. Plus, we both already know that most of what comes out of their mouths is trash. It’ll be fine.” Techno let out a chuckle, and Dream nodded.

“True true. Well, I guess it can’t hurt that bad.” And with that, the plans were finalized. They were going to have dinner with Techno’s parents that weekend. It was already Thursday, so they only had a few days to prepare.

But they spent those few days preparing. Getting each other ready, telling themselves that no matter what happend, everything would be fine. Finally before they knew it, the weekend had rolled around, and they both found themselves getting into the car to drive to Techno’s parent’s house.

Techno was a little nervous, so to help, Dream put on some relaxing music and made small talk with Techno, trying to get his mind off the dinner for the time being and to help him relax. To say the least, it had worked, and when they made it to Techno’s parent’s house, he was fully relaxed and ready to take on the night.

Dream was slightly surprised at how big Techno’s parent’s house was. The house being on the bigger side.

They both got out of the car, took a deep breath, and began to make their way to the front door. Dream knocked and they both waited a moment, before the door opened, revealing an older woman. Her eyes immediately went to Techno and her face broke into a smile of some sorts.

“Techno! How’ve you been?” Her voice was rich and smooth, slightly on the deeper side for a woman.

“Hello, Mother.” Techno put on a smile, but Dream could tell it was forced and strained.

“Well don’t just stand there! Come in!” Techno’s mother opened the door wider and made a motion for them to step inside. They both did greatfully, happy to be away from the cold outside.

Techno’s mother shut the door behind them before calling out. “Darling?”

No answer. “Darling!”

“What?” A gruff voice responded from around the corner. After a few moments a man came into view.

“Ah, Techno. How are you?” Techno’s smile seemed to become more strained.

“Hello, Father.” Techno’s father was a tall man, with broad shoulders, he and Techn being similarly built. While Techno seemed to get his hair and elegance from his mother, he got his face, mouth, and eye shape from his father.

Techno and his father stood there for a moment, just staring into each other for a moment, before his mother spoke up.

“Well, dinner is just about ready, so shall we go sit down?” Techno walked to the dining room, with Dream following behind him, and Techno’s parents following them.

Techno and his mother went into the kitchen to get and serve the food, and Dream and Techno’s father sat down at the table. They sat there in an awkward silence. Techno’s father looked as if he wanted to say something, but decided against it, as when he opened his mouth, Techno and his mother walked into the dining room with plates of food.

Techno’s mother sat down next to Techno's father, and Techno sat down next to Dream, so that they were facing each other. They began to eat, when Techno’s father spoke up.

“So, who is this?” His father asked, looking at Dream.

“Oh, I’m Dream, DreamWasTaken. I’m Techno’s boyfriend. Nice to meet you.” Dream held out his hand, and Techno’s father took it, shaking it firmly.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Techno’s father, Aries. This is my wife, Minerva. If you don’t mind my asking, how did you two meet?” Both of Techno’s parents looked coriouse. Techno decided to speak this time.

“We met in one of the classes we shared. We got paired up, and we became friends, and then we officially got together at the coffee shop on campus.” Techno’s mother nodded her head in approval.

“I also met Aries during my time at college. We were on opposite sides of the debate team. We had a rivalry for the ages.” Techno’s mother chuckled as she remembered the past, but there was something about her smile that seemed sad.

They continued to eat in silence before Techno’s father spoke again. “ So, Dream, you’re an alpha, right?” Dream choked on his food a little, and Techno just stared at his father.

“Yes, I’m an alpha. Why do you ask?” Dream replied as smoothly as he could once he had finished hacking his lungs out.

“Oh nothing. I’m just surprised you wanted my son. That’s all.” Techno froze up a little, and Dream looked stunned. But Techno’s parents continued eating as though nothing had been said.

“Father!” Techno seemed to get back to his senses and stared intensely at his father.

“What?” Techno’s mother looked up. “He was just surprised that any alpha would want you.” His mother said it like it was no big deal, and both Dream and Techno sat there, stunned. Dream was not having any of this.

“Of course I want Techno. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love him, and I know he loves me back. I don’t care what you say. Techno is perfect, and he’s the love of my life.” Dream finished his speech confidently, having grabbed Techno’s hand halfway through it.

Techno sat there looking at Dream in surprise, before he let out a chuckle. This was his boyfriend, and god did he love him.

Techno’s father looked shocked for a moment, before he let out a chuckle and looked at the two of them, pride evident in his eyes.

“I like you, Dream. It’s obvious that you love my son, for that I’m glad. If you ever wish to take my son's hand in marriage, then you have our full permission.” Techno’s father gave them a smile.

Dream and Techno were ecstatic, this was going much better than they had planned. Dinner after that went smoothly, with only a few bumps.

While dinner was somewhat enjoyable, they were both glad when it was over. The drive back home was happy, both their minds thinking about the sweet thought of marriage.
