Summary:

It was almost Kakashi's birthday and Sakumo decided to ask what his son wants as a gift. He was left perplexed however after hearing what Kakashi wants.

Notes:

I was really excited to post this, and the day has finally ARRIVED!!! I hope you will enjoy reading this. :) Also, it can be considered as a 'next chapter' for 'Pure', that I wrote last year.

Work Text:

Hatake Sakumo is a single father. He had a son he adored so much, he could do whatever his child wanted. Buying him gifts one mission after the other, he made sure his boy was happy and knew that he was loved. His son’s fifth birthday is nearing that month, and he has already made a simple arrangement for his beloved child. Inviting his close friends and Kakashi's friends, who the child wishes to come. He approached his son, who was busy reading his picture books. Sitting beside him, and asked what he wanted for his birthday.

Hatake Kakashi, his four-year-old son, soon turns five in a few days. The little boy put his picture book down, and stared at his father, confused. “Birthday?” he asked, earning a nod from his father. Realization hit him when he saw the calendar with his birthdate being drawn with a birthday cake. He gave it a thought and stared at his picture book again. Tilting his head to the side, he shrugged his shoulders. “I dunno,” he responded. Eyes back to his father, standing up, and settled himself on his father’s lap.

Sakumo chuckled at his little boy. Carrying him with both arms, and taking him to his bed, after his son started to yawn. “I guess we still have time to think about it, right?” he asked, earning him a nod. However, Kakashi never did tell him what he wanted.

It was already his son’s birthday, and Kakashi hadn't told him what he wanted as a present. Instead, Sakumo bought him a gift that he thinks his little boy might like. Sakumo was currently busy preparing for his son’s small birthday celebration, and as the day got brighter by an hour, some of his close friends had started to arrive. Presenting Kakashi with presents as they congratulated the little man. Obito and Rin also came together, with Rin happily giving her gift to her childhood friend. Except for Obito, acting all shy, as he handed his gift to him. Kakashi accepted them with a smile. Acting ‘all cool when he just turned five’, is what Obito thinks bitterly. Obito wanted to tease him, and tried to make fun of Kakashi, but was ignored when the said boy saw the family he was expecting to arrive.

“Ruka!” Kakashi called out, running towards the Umino’s with Ikkaku carrying his one-year-old son. The baby turned his head around; a bright wide smile appeared from the baby's face when he saw the familiar silver hair.

“Kashi!” The babe cried, struggling to be let down while trying to reach out his hands towards the toddler. His father obliged and carefully landed him on his feet. Kakashi then greeted the baby with a big hug, wrapping his arms around the baby’s waist, and carefully carrying him as he twirled. The baby giggled when his view started to spin. Wrapping his tiny arms around Kakashi’s little head.

The Umino couple laughed and found them adorable. Sakumo soon joined them and welcomed them inside. His eyes averted back to his son, who now settled Iruka back to his feet and held the baby’s hand as his son greeted the baby's parents.

“Dad!” Kakashi suddenly called him.

“Yes?”

“I know what I want for my birthday” Kakashi beamed, approaching his father, with Iruka holding on to his hands.

“I want Ruka!”

Sakumo went silent, blinking repeatedly while trying to process what his kid had just said. He faked a cough and squatted down to meet his eyes. “Um, I don’t think that’s-” he clamped down. Noticing how his son’s brows started to frown. His eyes averted to the Umino couple, who were looking confused on what Kakashi meant by his words.

“You asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I want Ruka”

“Um, but Little Ruka isn’t a toy. Kakashi.” clearing his throat, Sakumo carefully explained to his child. “Iruka belongs to his parents, and he needs them.” The Umino couple stared at the father and son, curious. Observing Kakashi and watching him pout and sitting down when their son sat on the floor.

Kakashi gave it a thought, his mind wondering what he should do. Gently cupping Iruka’s cheeks, he smiled and melted when the baby smiled back. “I know” he suddenly claimed, his eyes looking around for the Umino couple. He smiled when he saw them and greeted them warmly. “Then. Can I have Iruka when he doesn’t need you anymore?” he asked innocently. The one-year-old toddler giggled in Kakashi’s arms.

Ikkaku was pensive, not liking where this was going while staring at the boy, who was still holding onto his son’s hand. He coughed and cleared his throat. Before he could speak, his wife had already made arrangements with the toddler.

“But you need to make sure Little Ruka loves you too. Kashi”

“Nah, it’s okay. Ruka loves me. We’re going to be together forever when we grow up” he grinned, pulling Iruka again for another tight hug. The baby giggled from the warmth, repeatedly calling Kakashi’s name.
