Work Text:

Blinking did not change the image. Alucard had tried. He stood in the Belmont hold, in one of the more open areas, as Sypha glanced back and forth between the book in her hands and the muddy-reddish frog now eyeing her balefully from the table.

"That was not my intention," she said, frantically flipping pages.

The frog warbled, looking displeased somehow.

"I'm sorry! It was supposed to be a summoning spell..."

"I don't know," Alucard cut in, his shock fading away since no one looked injured, "this seems like an improvement."

Puffing up angrily, the frog let out a series of posturing croaks.

"Yes, Treffy is definitely better spoken now."

When Trevor-the-frog launched himself from the table, Alucard caught him easily, lifting him up in one hand. Trevor squirmed and made loud unhappy sounds--probably trying to argue even in his state--but he was held fast. Eventually he had to give up and hang limp in Alucard's grasp. Alucard patted his head, getting the frog equivalent of a grumble in return.

"I can fix this," Sypha said. "Obviously, none of these spells are meant to be permanent anyway, though it's obvious they need some work on directing the intent behind the language..."

Trevor let out a more screeching croak. Sypha glared, placing a hand on her hip.

"Don't think I don't know exactly what you're thinking, and this was not my fault. You asked for my help in organizing some of these obscure spells, and it's clear many of them need to be altered. So don't blame me for your state."

Trevor looked up at Alucard, sharing a fondly commiserating look. Alucard knew better than to agree out loud though. He was proven right as Sypha huffed, her eyebrows lowering and finger poking pointedly towards the little frog.

"You'll be polite and cooperative if you want your dick back."

Trevor squeaked, tried to turn his head to look down at himself, and when that didn't work, glanced at Alucard in an obvious plea.

"Frogs have cloaca," he said helpfully.

Trevor paused, throat fluttering, and a quiet little croak slipped out. Alucard patted his head again.

"We should leave Sypha to her work for a bit. Find some water for you to sit in."

Trevor grumped as best he could, but behaved enough that Alucard allowed Trevor to sit upon his palm. They wandered away to reach the elevator, after which Alucard would likely go looking through their kitchen for a wide, shallow bowl.

"You know, you did sort of place yourself in this situation. Offering to help test and all."

Trevor croaked grumpily, slapping a little foot on Alucard's fingers. It only brought out some laughter.

"She won't let you stay this way though. Neither would I."

Trevor turned on his hand to look up at him, throat fluttering, but without noise.

"I mean it." His words came with more sincerity than he'd first intended, but Trevor took it in stride, warbling a bit as if in agreement. So Alucard nodded, pressed a quick kiss to Trevor's head and-

-stumbled into a wall.

The weight in his arms was so sudden, Alucard hadn't any time to balance himself. And then there Trevor was, in all his scruffy, human glory, pressed between Alucard's body and stone.

"Right," Trevor said, a bit breathless. "What say we don't tell Sypha about this?"

"Agreed." She'd never let them live it down. "Though I will go tell her you've changed back. Give you time to, hm, check yourself over."

Trevor startled and grabbed at his pants. Alucard sighed, rolling his eyes and smiling as he walked away. No reason to leave out everything when telling Sypha.
