Summary
There were two, simple things asked of her: comply with every order given and ensure that she was the one who walked away.
There was a long, unspoken list of things she wasn’t supposed to do. One of the more important items on that list was not to feel.
When her programming was working, that rule wasn’t hard to obey. When the invisible binds on her self were screwed on tight enough that they cut off the blood flow to her center, it was easy to be the emotionless soldier she’d been crafted to be.
When they betrayed her, the insurmountable weight of her grief hadn’t been factored into the possible repercussions.
How could they account for it when it shouldn’t have existed? Nothing was supposed to be able to break the unshakeable hold they had on her conscience.
But the loss they forced upon her rebirthed her like a phoenix.
