Chapter 18: Landslide

Notes:

You made it! Btw I listened to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac while finishing this up and I almost cried. So that means you need to listen to it too :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“This is pointless.” Wednesday huffed, throwing down the sword she had been wielding in her left hand.

Bianca rolled her eyes and dropped her fighting stance, “It's only pointless because you keep giving up.” She kicked the sword back at Wednesday who glared in return, “Go again.”

Wednesday stood on shaky legs, her right arm secured against her chest with a tight sling. The dark bags under her eyes and shit attitude likely stemming from frustration and lack of alcohol in her system. Dropping that vice had been tough on her mental, combined with serious injuries it was the perfect recipe for a pissed off Wednesday Addams.

Bianca sighed and dug her own sword into the dirt, “I thought relearning how to fight would be a welcomed challenge huh?”

“I can’t use magic, I’m weaker than I’ve ever been, I can’t even wield a fucking sword properly.” She hissed at the girl across from her who watched unfazed by the outburst.

Bianca had bore the brunt of Wednesday's aggression born from frustration. It didn’t offend her in the slightest, she knew the road to recovery would be a long one and well, she knew Addams well enough to predict it wouldn’t be a peaceful one either. The only time she ever seemed to at least pretend to be calm was when Enid had time to come around. She visited the farm house whenever she could escape her duties in the castle which wasn’t often but it was enough. Bianca had had a long… discussion with Enid about her choices but they had since come to an understanding. It was also entertaining to watch the Princess glare daggers at Xavier when he was around.

Besides, having Wednesday arguing with her was far better than the deafening silence Bianca endured while standing by Wednesday's side when she had been in her coma. Day in and day out for that first month Bianca rarely left her side unless Morticia practically ushered her out. Every time she wasn’t physically watching Wednesday's chest rise and fall she went back to the lifeless corpse on the dirt.

“Cut the crap, Addams. You’re healing, give yourself some slack. So you can’t use magic anymore, it sucks and I’m sorry but don’t let that make you helpless. You’re still a damned skilled fighter without it and you know it.” Bianca narrowed her eyes, “Unless you want to admit that I’m stronger than you?”

Wednesday sighed and rolled the tension out of her good shoulder, then she let out an exaggerated huff, “In your dreams Barclay.”

Bianca smiled, “Pick it up then.” When Wednesday did Bianca shifted back into a fighting stance, “Good. Now hit me again.”

“Is this your final decision Princess?”

Enid, standing tall and proud at the head of the council's table, smiled “It is.”

Morticia, who had earned a chair on the council gave a knowing smirk in return, “Very well then, your ascension to the throne is hereby suspended for a period of up to five years. During this time the council will take over the predominant duties of the Queen and act as ruler of Jericho. All those in favor?”

A chorus of “Ayes!” Rose up from all the council members. The new councilors appointed by Enid and Yoko had been working well together. With Morticia holding a chair there would always be an outcast advocate running the kingdom during Enid's upcoming absence. She trusted the people she chose to be fair and just.

Enid gave a respectful curtsy to the table with a barely contained grin and promptly left the room. As soon as she closed the doors behind her she fell against them with a breezy laugh. Dozens of meetings and tireless arguments had all led to this.

“You’re finally free, I can’t believe you did it.” Yoko, who had been waiting impatiently outside the room, saw the look of relief on her face.

Enid gave her a small smile, “I just hope I’m not making a mistake.”

Yoko rolled her eyes, “Enid we’ve planned this out for months now. We all know it’s what’s best for you and the kingdom. You deserve to be free, even if it means I’ll have to survive in this boring place without you.”

“I know I know… I just worry if I’m making the right decision for the kingdom. Is it selfish that I want to get out of here and live?” Enid sighed when Yoko gave her the same flat look.

“Enid, Jericho is rebuilding right now. We have fewer allies than ever before and hundreds of years of corruption we have to fix. No offence, but an inexperienced Queen that played a hand in the toppling of the last monarch’s would just make you look worse. Let the council do their jobs and me do mine. You’ve done more than enough for all of us, believe me. You just have to give the people time to realize that too.” Enid sighed again and nodded.

“Well at least you won’t be alone huh?” Enid wagged her eyebrows, “I heard a certain outcast is moving in?”

Yoko immediately scowled as her face and neck flushed red, “She’s the new kitchen hand you twit, of course Divina is living here.” As it turns out Yoko really didn't have an issue with outcasts. Especially when one of the ones that had come back from Nevermore turned out to be a very attractive young woman by the name Divina.

“Right right of course!… Do invite me to the wedding though!” Enid dodged the swat that came her way with a cackle.

“Alright alright, get out of here before your little demon comes looking for you.”

Yoko walked her down to the courtyard where they said their goodbyes. They hugged each other as tightly as they could with neither one of them boasting a dry eye.

“Stay safe out there Enid. Don’t forget to visit once in a while, okay?” Yoko spoke with a wobbled voice.

Enid sniffled, “I will and I won’t! I’ll bring you back some gifts from all over the place, I promise.” She pulled back and looked Yoko in the eyes, “We did it Yokes. We aren’t pawns in anyone’s game anymore. We made our path, don’t let anyone stray you from it.”

Yoko nodded fiercely, “That we did your highness. Take care of each other, that scoundrel needs someone to look after her.”

Enid laughed freely, “Oh I know.”

“I find that to be offensive.” A gruff voice interrupted their goodbyes.

Wednesday glared at them from her place on Things back. She was healed now for the most part. Her right arm would never work the same but adapting to her other hand had been a welcomed challenge. The imprint of scales were still burned onto her neck, a mark she carried with solemn pride as a symbol of her lost bonded.

Enid threw her an amused glance, “Don’t deny it darling, we both know it’s true.”

Wednesday grumbled something under her breath but didn’t refute any further instead turning Thing around so she wouldn't be facing them.

“Wow. Not even a snarky reply? Sinclair got you on a tight leash, Addams?” Yoko snickered from behind her palm as Enid tried and failed to suppress another giggle.

“Shut your foul trap Tanaka before I stick my dagger in it.”

“Oo kinky. Careful Addams, Enid is right there listening to us.” Yoko replied far too amused.

Wednesday visibly tensed and spluttered something neither of them understood before digging her heels into Things flank. They took off towards the gate leaving behind a cloud of dust.

Enid let out the last of her giggles and shook her head, “Why do you insist on tormenting her? I was just starting to get her to be nice.”

“It’s far too easy Princess. Besides, I don’t think it’s possible for that girl to be nice to anyone but you. She keeps my tongue sharp anyways, no one can insult quite as eloquently as she can.”

“I know that all too well.” Bee was brought to her sporting a saddle bag packed to the brim with supplies for living on the move. She mounted up adjusting herself in the saddle and looked back at her castle for the last time in what would be a while,”Goodbye Yoko, and good luck.”

Yoko waved her off as she urged Bee to catch up with Wednesday. It was a whole different sensation to leave the only home she had ever known. She would miss the friends she was leaving behind but she needed to be away from this castle. As much as it was her home growing up, it was also her prison. Trapped within those walls she could never escape her abusive parents but now, here she was.

Wednesday had stopped right before the gate and waited for Enid to catch up. Bee slowed to a stop beside her.

“Are you ready?” Wednesday watched her, concern showing in the slight furrow of her brow.

Enid looked up at the castle gates and closed her eyes, she took in a deep breath letting the moment wash over her, then-

She urged Bee into a gallop with a whoop of joy. Wednesday was left dumbfounded before Thing ecstatically followed the sound of Bees thundering hooves. They raced through the city and past the old farmhouse where Gomez and Pugsley stood outside waving and whooping them on with the vigor only found in the Addams family. Not even Wednesday could suppress her grin as her family yelled goodbye.

They finally slowed when they reached the edge of the forest. There was one more place they had to stop at before they could leave. Wednesday took the lead at a calm pace letting the quiet atmosphere of the forest wash over them.

Since the battle which had been almost a year ago now many things had changed. The spirit of the forest had not been felt since. It was as if it was dormant now. It came of no surprise, what the ancient being had done for them that day had surpassed all expectations. She owed them nothing and yet she gave them everything when she sent the dragons and aided the Nightshades on their way.

Wednesday missed the pull the forest used to have on her but she loved it nonetheless.

They broke off the main path and rode into the thick brush and trees. It opened up into a familiar clearing with an old altar.

The two women dismounted and approached it with somber silence. Enid hung back to give Wednesday a moment alone at her dragons altar.

From a satchel at her side she produced a crown made of flowers Enid hadn’t seen her weave. It looked immaculate, not a single petal wilted or decayed. Wednesday let her hands linger on the crown brushing the petals a final time.

Wednesday kneeled and placed it on the large stone base. This was the first time she had returned to this place since losing Cehualli. It was a wound that would never close but she was learning to live with it.

She wouldn’t waste this gift Cehualli had given her, Lydia’s words rang strongly in her mind. When she awoke from her coma Wednesday had thought the entire interaction with her old friend had been a trick of the mind. A vision her brain had played to keep itself alive. But when Bianca showed her the flower crown they had found underneath her tunic she knew it was real.

She would never forget them, either of them and their sacrifice.

Wednesday sighed into the wind and rose to her feet just staring at the altar. Enid shuffled up beside her pressing their shoulders together as a show of silent support. Wednesday found herself leaning into the touch as she so often did these days.

“I wish I could’ve met her, actually gotten to know one another I mean.” Enid spoke softly.

“She would’ve hated you at first.” Wednesday felt Enids body hunch slightly so she quickly continued, “She hated everyone but me. Cehualli didn’t waste her time on people who weren’t worth it and from what you told me, she saved you that day. Same as she saved me. Cehualli knew you because she knew me, our souls are intertwined like a noose around a dead man’s neck.”

Enid blinked, “A noose huh? I guess that’s romantic in a sense.” Wednesday rolled her eyes without malice.

They stood together for a few more silent minutes until Wednesday stepped away, “Thorpe and Bianca will be waiting for us, we best get going.” Enid scowled at the mention of Xavier, she still wasn’t the boy's biggest fan but it wasn’t like he was very fond of her either.

She grumbled, “Yeah well he can wait.”

Wednesday gave her a sideways glance, “Jealousy is a good look on you Sinclair. Act on it and I might just swoon.” Their status was… complicated. Ever since the attack they had been working on building back the trust between them but it has never gone as far as their late night tryst again. Both of them knew the other had obvious feelings but it hadn’t felt right to dive into it just yet. However, recently, the playful flirting was starting to grow tiring.

Enid scoffed, “Me? Jealous of him? HAH that would mean that he actually stood a chance with you. We both know that isn’t going to happen.”

Wednesdays eyes flashed with something dangerous, “He would be a fool to try.” Their gaze grew heated until Wednesday cleared her throat, “Besides, I have been the unwilling victim of witnessing the sea witch and him engaged in… activities. I believe any feelings he held for me in the past are gone.”

“What does Bianca even see in him.” It was less of a real question and more of a statement.

“I don’t understand it either. I suppose, however, Thorpe isn’t the worst. He was of great assistance in the past and a loyal… friend.” She shuddered at the last word.

Enid softened, “I’m glad you had people that were there for you.”

Wednesday hummed, “Me too.”

She turned away from the altar and went to leave but something tugged at her forcing her body to stop moving. Wednesday's eyes went wide as she was stuck in place processing what she was feeling.

“Wends..?” Enid furrowed her brows in concern and placed a hand on her shoulder.

The wind picked up around them, sending an unnatural breeze rushing past Wednesday's ear and directing her attention back behind her. She followed it and watched the leaves in the wind twirl until they reached the stone basin behind the altar.

Wordlessly Wednesday stepped away from Enid and approached the basin. This is where she and Cehuallis shared blood convened to strengthen their bond but the well had long since dried up. Or so Wednesday assumed…

Something pulsated in her veins the longer she stared at the basin until she couldn’t deny the pull any longer.

There, nestled inside the near empty basin, was an egg lying in a shallow pool of their mixed blood. An inky black egg covered in scales roughly the size of a watermelon gleamed up at her.

Enid gasped as she caught sight of whatever had Wednesday stuck in a trance, “Is that a…?”

Wednesday's eyes suddenly clouded, there was no denying it. The pull she felt, the instant connection, this was Cehuallis creation. If she allowed herself to display emotions she’d have broken down but as it stands all the only thing that could escape her iron will was a hitched breath.

A fierce protectiveness came over her and she knew at that moment she would guard the last piece of Cehualli with her life. She had left this precious gift behind to save Wednesday, the implications were not lost on her. Cehualli had been willing to abandon her hatchling to save Wednesday not knowing if anyone would return in time to save her egg.

She reached in retrieving the egg from the basin and held it securely in her arms.

“It’s so… small.” Enid whispered beside her as if  nervous that somehow her voice would shatter the moment.

“They all start out small, their greatest weakness.”

Enid watched as her counterpart stared at the egg with deep reverence and awe. It brought a small smile to her face, truth be told seeing the egg only brought her own mind back to Pyre.

Their reunification had proven to be a challenge, draconic beasts could be forgiving, yes, but even they had their limits. Pyre never strayed far from the Addams farmhouse while Wednesday recovered which made it easier for Enid to find her.

The days had consisted of Enid sitting beside her letting the wyvern get used to her presence again. Progress was slow… but it was something.

Enid's heart felt a little bit better now that her bonded was close and she was sure Pyre felt it too. But she would give her wyvern all the time she needed to trust her again. She had a lot to prove to her, and to Wednesday. Enid wasn’t going to leave them again, she was going to fight until they both believed it.

Enid placed her hand on Wednesday's shoulder and squeezed reassuringly, “Let’s do this then.”

“And then BAM she knocks him out cold! I mean the guy was counting sheep before he even hit the ground!” Bianca cackled, throwing an arm around a tipsy Xavier who snickered over the rim of his cup.

Enid howled with laughter hitting Bianca’s mug with her own. Even Wednesday's lip twitched upwards at Bianca’s crude retelling of one of the many times she put grown men to sleep for crossing them.

The group was in a ragged tavern somewhere far from Jericho and Bucharest where the world was theirs to explore.

Seasons had passed from the time they left Jericho and with time their bonds grew stronger. They fought together, laughed together, cried together, and drank together. Well, except for Wednesday nowadays. She never wanted to go back to the time when she couldn’t even stand on her own two feet. Even now she sipped from her mug filled with well water while the rest of her friends knocked back their ale. She didn’t mind though, temptations were for the weak, or so she claimed.

Enid leaned against her shoulder, a touch Wednesday found she didn’t flinch away from anymore. Hell, even Bianca and Xavier hardly reacted to the sight these days as more and more Enid specific privileges came to light.

Nothing was official between them, still hadn’t even so much as kissed since they reunited. Of course they needed the space to grow into the new roles and identities they found themselves in but now that time had passed. The tension between them was suffocating but Enid refused to make a move that might make Wednesday uncomfortable.

On the other hand, Wednesday was far too stuck in her own head to take action. Sure, Enid was with them for now but she was the future Queen of an entire realm. That didn’t leave much space for someone like Wednesday by her side.

And so, they were trapped in a brutal stalemate that neither of them dared to break.

That is, until tonight.

“Damn,” Bianca looked into her now empty mug, “Wednesday what do you say you bring us another round huh?”

The dark haired girl glowered at her, “Get it yourself you fish scaled pest.” It was the expected response but Bianca had a trump card. She smiled dangerously as her eyes shifted to the drunken blonde who was swirling around her own drink.

Enid pouted beside her as she realized her mug was also nearing empty, “Aww please Wends? I’m all out.” She whined, akin to a dog. Bianca could practically picture fluffy ears pinned back on her head as she begged the stoic girl next to her.

Wednesday scowled but even she wasn’t immune to Enid's puppy eyes. She stood without another word and stalked to the counter astutely avoiding Bianca’s triumphant grin and Enid's cheer of joy.

“Anddd that’s how it’s done.” Bianca gloated in her small victory.

Xavier nodded approvingly, “I see what you did there. The ‘Enid Attack’ never fails.”

Enid cocked her head, “What’s the ‘Enid Attack…?”

Bianca waved her off, “Don’t worry your pretty little head about it, we just found a fool proof way of getting Addams to do whatever we want. Well, as long as it’s something you also want.”

Xavier chimed in, leaning closer over the table, “See she can say no to us but not to you! Everyone gets what they want and we all win.”

Enid had…opinions on that but all she could do was fondly shake her head. She could deny it but hell, even she knew it was true. Before she could say as much she saw Xavier’s jaw drop as he focused on something behind her. He elbowed Bianca who, after looking at the counter, also sported a similar expression.

Bianca’s face turned into a grimace, “This should be fun..”

Enids smile turned into a frown as she scanned the bar for what her friends could have seen. No enemies, no brawls, now where was Wednesd-

Wednesday was at the counter impatiently tapping her fingers as she awaited her drinks to be poured. Leaning against the wood counter beside her was a woman around their age, maybe younger. She was slender and pale with fiery locks of red hair tied into two twin braids. It reminded Enid of how Wednesday used to wear her hair in their youth. Except on this stranger it wasn’t half as charming.

The girl had something off about her, a creepy vibe Enid couldn’t quite place as her brain caught up to what her eyes were seeing. The girl leaned further into Wednesday's space leering down at her with wide eyes and a forced smile.

She expected Wednesday to push her, kill her, hell at the very least maim her but none of those things happened. Instead, Wednesday allowed this, this stranger to invade her space!

A scowl overtook Enid's face as she watched the exchange. This usually wasn’t an issue as most men who dared approach Wednesday were very quickly turned away by her sharp words and even sharper blades but there had never been a woman…

Bianca and Xavier were sobering up as they realized the absolute wreck they had coming their way.

“Who the hell…” Bianca murmured as she too seemed to be put off by the fact that Wednesday was socializing with someone.

Xavier shivered in his chair, “Whoever she is, she looks creepier than Wednesday.”

Enid grunted in agreement as her hands tightened around her empty mug. Jealousy flared through her body fueled further by the alcohol. She couldn’t stand it any longer as the girl stopped Wednesday from paying for their drinks and threw down her own coins.

Enid bolted up from her chair and marched towards the bar with fierce determination. Wednesday must have felt the aura of anger looming nearby because her eyes flicked to the fast approaching Enid then back to the girl.

Enid came to an abrupt stop right behind Wednesday and forced a tight smile on her face, “Hey Wends, need a hand with the drinks?”

The other girl, who had been speaking, didn’t even react to the interruption. Wednesday arched a brow, “I am capable of carrying three mugs Enid.”

“Enid? This wouldn’t happen to be the Enid Sinclair would it?” The stranger had now trained her creepily large eyes on her. Up close Enid could now see that the girl was clearly younger than them. Too young to even be seen as competition really but Enid was drunk. Any and all rationale had left the building the second she saw someone doting on Wednesday.

The princess narrowed her eyes, “How do you-?”

“Oh I know everything there is to know about Wednesday and her… followers. Even you, princess.”

Enid scoffed, “We aren’t her followers, we’re her friends you little psycho. Wednesday, why are you talking to this creep?!” She demanded, fiery gaze now fixed on Wednesday.

Wednesday raised an eyebrow at her outburst that was most unlike the bubbly princess that typically took any opportunity to socialize, “Agnes asked questions I deemed worthy of answering.” So she even knew her name now?!

The other girl, now known as Agnes, visibly brightened, “Hearing you say I’m worthy is exhilarating.”

Enid narrowed her eyes as the green beast of jealousy reared its ugly head inside her heart. No one had ever been so forward with Wednesday before, not even Xavier had had the gall. Now this little brat thinks she stands a chance? Not while Enid still had breath in her lungs.

Wednesday rolled her eyes, “I find your lack of boundaries and purposeful misunderstanding of my words to be irksome.”

Enid couldn’t stop a smug grin from finding its way onto her face but the other girl didn’t seem phased in the slightest. In fact she seemed to bask in the negative attention.

The ginger then looked to Enid again as if she were a mere distraction, “I’ve been following what happened in Jericho for quite some time now.” She tilted her head condescendingly, “Your family has quite the infamous record Sinclair.”

Enid clenched her teeth and fists but she couldn’t deny it. The girl's cheshire grin widened, “I don’t even know why Wednesday wastes her time with someone like you.”

THUNK

A knife drove deep into the wooden counter in between the strangers fingers from where she had been leaning, “Insult Enid again and I’ll make sure you never utter another word.” Wednesday's deadly stare and calculated threat stopped whatever Enid was going to say.

Agnes flinched at the blade that was a mere millimeter away from leaving her without a finger, she laughed nervously, “I didn’t mean any harm, a poor jest on my end.”

Wednesday grunted and retrieved her dagger with a flourish, “You can leave now.”

“W-wait! Is there any way I can be of assistance to you? I only wish to serve you Wednesday.” Agnes suddenly pleaded, her prickly facade fading into desperation.

“What in the hells-“ Enid started.

“I’ve been following you since I first saw you in Nevermore. You never noticed me but I was there.”

Enid couldn’t imagine how horrified her own expression must’ve been but it only got worse when Wednesday didn’t immediately tell the stalker off.

“Impressive.” Was all the dark haired girl said with a quirked eyebrow.

Agnes practically glowed under the praise, “Thank you Wednesday!”

Enid stiffened and turned on Wednesday, “Honestly Wednesday?! She was stalking us and you don’t care?!”

Wednesday went to open her mouth but Enid didn’t stop, she couldn’t. The words were falling from her mouth like vomit, “Not only that but she was practically all over you and you didn’t even seem to mind!”

Agnes giggled, “Ohhh I understand now!” She sounded delighted, “I’ll find you later Wednesday, maybe when there’s no one else around.” She winked in Enids direction cheekily.

“That’s it!” Enid lunged at where the girl stood but with a wave of her fingers she vanished into thin air leaving Enid grasping at nothing. Much like Agnes had moments ago, Enid's anger dissipated into something more shameful. Her brain finally catching up to the alcohol's actions.

Wednesday hummed, “So that’s how she went undetected.” She gathered up the drinks, “Enid, lets go.”

She commanded her like a dog and yet, like a loyal mutt, Enid found herself trailing behind her head hung in shame. She had blown up on Wednesday for no reason other than her own unjustified jealousy and yet Wednesday hadn’t scolded her. At least, not yet.

Wednesday threw the mugs down at their table where Bianca and Xavier pretended to be in deep conversation as if they hadn’t been staring at them from across the room.

“Sooo..” Bianca let her words trail on, “Who was that Addams?”

“That is none of your concern.” She tilted her head to look at Enid who was still standing behind her, she sighed. “We are retiring for the night. Do not disturb us until tomorrow morning.”

Wednesday abruptly turned on her heel and grabbed Enid by the tunic dragging her along, “Woah hey-!” But a quick glare from the other girl had Enid shutting right up and following along.

Bianca and Xavier shared a concerned glance, “Do we go make sure she isn’t going to kill her…?”

The sea witch shook her head, “I would rather not die alongside her to be honest.” She slid a mug over to her companion and lifted her own, “In memory of Enid!”

The walk to their room was quiet which did little to ease Enid's nerves. She knew she crossed a line at the bar, it was rare for Wednesday to interact with anyone outside of their group and the one time she seems to be intrigued by a person Enid ruins it. It wasn’t intentional. Well… not fully intentional. Under normal circumstances Enid would not have allowed her hidden emotions to jump out like that but the ale and wine did wonders to her preservation skills.

Wednesday didn’t let go of her tunic until she had pushed Enid down onto one of the hay cots to sit and stood over her arms crossed, “Care to explain what that was down there?”

Enid swallowed back her spit, “What was what Wednesday.” It was a lame response and they both knew it.

Wednesday's brow furrowed in annoyance, “You’re not dense Sinclair, you know what I mean.”

Ouch, Wednesday hadn’t called her Sinclair in months now outside of friendly banter during spars. “I just didn’t like that girl alright?”

Wednesday frowned, “I thought you wanted me to less quote on quote outwardly murderous to the people around me.”

Enid groaned and fell back against the bed covering her face with her arm. She really had done this to herself but she didn’t think Wednesday was actually going to listen. “She was flirting with you.”

“You weren’t present for the extent of our conversation, how could you reach such an outlandish conclusion?”

“Well she was practically all over you for one! Even Bianca and Xavier noticed! You don’t let anyone that close to you, other than..”

“You.” Wednesday finished for her with an unreadable expression.

Enid flushed embarrassed, “Yeah.”

“I found her to be intriguing, like a poor imitation of myself. Even more compelling was her ability, I have yet to meet an invisibility user.” She had lost herself in thought but when she glanced at Enid's crestfallen face she cleared her throat, “My interest did not go beyond curiosity.”

“….So you don’t like her?” Enid pouted.

Wednesday sighed almost fondly, “Does the mere idea of it bother you that much?”

“Yes!” Enid blurted sitting up from where she was laying.

“Interesting.” She turned around and began to prepare for bed, “I can assure you, you have nothing to worry about.”

Wednesday went to tend to the egg they had t carried around with them in a secure chest they had infused with heat from an outcast they met along their travels. It ensured the egg would incubate properly and they wouldn’t have to tend to it as much but Wednesday rarely let it out of her sight anyways. They didn’t know when it was due to hatch but until then they all remained vigilant.

Was Enid really going to let this go again? Time and time again the topic of their complicated relationship came up and each time it was dropped without a clear answer. Enough was enough, “You’re so confusing Wednesday.”

That caught the other girl's attention again, “How so?”

“Youre always sooo blunt with everyone else. Never afraid to speak your mind.” Enid eyed her nervously as if debating on whether or not she should finish her thought, “Except for when it comes to us- I mean this.” She motioned between them. “You said I have nothing to worry about but why is that? Is there something you know that I don’t?”

Wednesday blinked, “I don’t-“

“Don’t bullshit me Wends. You must know how I feel about you if my constant flirtation wasn’t enough. And well, if that night was anything to go off of, I think you feel the same?” It was a false confidence, Enid was trembling on the inside hoping she hadn’t ruined the thin line they had been walking.

Wednesday sucked in a breath and let it go before speaking, “Your acts of fawning have not gone wholly unnoticed. Nor have I forgotten about the night we.. engaged in coitus.” She bit her lower lip suddenly nervous, Enid braced herself for the ‘but..’ end of that sentence. “I had been planning to court you, properly but the perfect time had not yet presented itself.”

Enid suddenly stood up and all the fuzziness from the ale flew out the window, “Wait.. you wanted to court me?!”

Wednesday raised a finger to correct her, “Want, as in, current.” Her gaze tracked to the ground as her brow furrowed, “Well, upon further analysis you are future Queen.. I suspect there’s certain rules that must be followed in regards to-“

Enid rushed forwards and threw her arms around Wednesday's neck in a frantic move that left the shorter girl stunned, “I don’t care you-! you impossible woman!” She laughed into Wednesday's neck as the other girl slowly brought her arms around her as well.

She pulled back suddenly, “You’re not just saying that right? You mean it?”

Wednesday rolled her eyes, “I never say things I don’t mean.”

Enid smiled so hard crinkles formed around her eyes and Wednesday found herself completely mesmerized.

Suddenly, she was ten again sitting on the floor of Enid's room in the tallest tower in the castle. They had been friends for only a few weeks and yet, as this annoyingly joyful girl giggled as she played with her dolls Wednesday couldn’t find it in her cold dead heart to hate her.

How could she? Enid looked at her as if she had hung the moon and stars just for her. At this point, Wednesday was convinced she would do it if Enid asked.

“We’re always gonna be best friends Wednesday Addams.” She had declared with a lisp though her missing front teeth. That same wide smile that was present in front of her today. Wednesday could never forget it.

“Until death do we part.” Looking back on it, Wednesday had unintentionally recited wedding vows but unlike most people, she meant it.

Lost in thought she was snapped out of it when Enid leaned in closer eyes tracing a path from her eyes to her lips. It didn’t take an expert to see where this was going so Wednesday leaned back slightly.

“You’re drunk.” She tried but Enid just looked at her amused.

“Never enough to regret you.” And with that she closed the gap between them, slotting their lips together.

Unlike their first kiss that had been ignited by passion and lust, this one was slow and soft. It was an outpouring of suppressed emotions and words left unsaid. There were no roaming hands or clacking of teeth, only firm tenderness.

When air became a necessity they pulled away from each other leaving only an inch between their panting faces.

“I love you.” The confession came from Enid, she couldn’t hold it any longer, “I think I’ve loved you my whole life.” And she meant it with every fiber of her being.

The words struck Wednesday harder than any arrow or sword that ever cut her, “Enid, I would slice out my still beating heart and cradle it between your fingers if only to show you the indelible hold you have over my being.” She really was an Addams.

Enid giggled, “I think I’d prefer to cradle all of you instead.” She pulled them back until her legs hit the bed where she sat down dragging Wednesday along with her.

They tangled together with Enid tucking her head over Wednesdays and nosing into her hair. She sighed contentedly savouring the comfortable silence.

The shorter girl was far less accustomed to so-called ‘cuddling’ but she let herself be maneuvered in whatever way Enid saw fit. In this case her face was plastered between Enid's chest and neck so she wasn’t going to complain.

Enid's eyes drooped as the emotional turmoil from the day caught up with her and she pulled Wednesday in closer as she began to drift off. The night had started off so poorly Enid could believe this was happening.

After months, no, years of pining they had finally made it. Every bout of laughter, endless tears, and sparks of reconciliation had all been worth it in the end.

Enid felt as though at any moment she would be ripped from this cruel dream and thrown back into her old life of luxurious captivity. But no matter how hard she pinched herself, she almost drew blood, Wednesday remained in front of her. The buzz in her lips from their kiss still lingered on her lips. And though their journey was far from over and they were never out of danger, Enid felt the best she’d ever felt.

She finally allowed her body to relax as she sunk further into the hay cot. Enid had almost fully drifted off when a smug voice cut through the silence.

She felt Wednesday smirk against her neck, “You were jealous of a child.”

Shut it Addams.”

Four Years Later

—-𓆩𓆪————-

A twenty-six year old Enid Sinclair laughed freely into the clouds atop a golden wyvern. Pyre tucked her wings diving down to tease at the black dragon flying haphazardly beneath them.

Wednesday scowled as Enid's upside down face came into view as Pyre rolled over gliding belly up just above them.

“Hey there beautiful, how’s it hanging?” The blonde winked cheekily.

“Quit your incessant taunts.” Wednesday bit back with no real malice. “Nero focus!” She reminded her own mount who had gone off course to nip at Pyre. Cehuallis egg had hatched not long after they confessed their feelings. A black dragon almost identical to his mother popped out and Wednesday would deny it till the day she died but she shed more than one tear that night.

The wyvern flipped them back over so they could fly side by side with the wobbling youngster, “And here I thought you were an expert dragon flyer.” Enid teased.

Wednesday scowled, “If you two weren't pestering us we would be-“ her sentence was cut off as Nero suddenly dipped down a few feet before leveling out again, “-fine.” His rider sighed and patted his neck.

“Mhm I can see that you’re totally fine.” Enid grinned, "C'mon they’re probably waiting for us at Nevermore already! I promised Agnes I’d show her the best honey mead this side of the realm!”

After Agnes had tagged along with the rag tag group of outcasts, unbeknownst to them for a while, she really came out of her creepy shell. After Wednesday had allowed her to stay, and Enid gave her another chance, she learned Agnes was really just another victim of the violence against outcasts. She had grown up alone on the streets always worried about where her next meal would come from. She had no one to look up to until Wednesday came around. So how could Enid hate her?

The princess quickly found herself befriending the girl and really pushed her to find herself and not try to be anybody else. Only Wednesday could pull off Wednesday after all.

Nevermore was their last stop before they inevitably returned to Jericho. Enid's five years were almost up and in that time spent exploring the world she learned so much. She was ready to go back and fix what her family had broken for so long. Besides, she wouldn't be alone. Bianca, Xavier, and Agnes had all agreed to stay at the castle for a bit, maybe even become councilors.

And of course she had Wednesday. Future queens of Jericho had a nice ring to it but she wouldn't force Wednesday into any official position she didn't want. At the end of the day she knew who was going to stand beside her for all eternity. Whether or not she would be Enid's queen, she knew she was going to marry that ragamuffin scoundrel. That was never in question for either of them.

Neither of them were ever going to go through life alone anymore. Not even death could separate them for long. Besides, Enid knew Wednesday would rip apart anyone who ever tried.

“I’ll race youuu.” Enid smirked as she saw Nero’s head pop up at the mention of racing.

“Don’t you dare.” Wednesday warned but it was too late.

Pyre shot off like a bullet with a whooping Enid in tow. Nero sped up as best as he could, which was sloppy to say the least, and Wednesday was almost yanked off by the force of the speed up. She grit her teeth and leaned in close to his neck. This was still one of their first rides, dragons grew slower than other species of draconic beasts so they weren't quite as in tune with each other as they would be in the future.

If Enid wanted a race, she'd get a race, “Lets go Nero!” She yelled over the wind and pushed him to go faster.

He tilted his head to look back at her and blinked slowly, a sign of understanding. He roared out playfully and tried his best to gain on Pyre.

In the end, they didn't win but it was close. Enid would go on to gloat to all their friends but under the table she'd hold Wednesday's hand and smile at her in a way that made the rest of the world fade away. So as Wednesday watched Pyre and Enid fly ahead of her into the setting sun while sitting atop Nero racing towards the people she had grown to love and respect, she really couldn't care much about winning or losing.

In her eyes, she had already won everything she could ever want.

A family worth living for and people worth remembering. Wednesday let a rare smile creep onto her face as she followed after the love of her life.

Notes:

Well guys! Thats that! Im sad to see this story end because like I said, its by far my favorite and im so proud of how it progressed and I think i got better at writing along the way. Thank you to everyone who has commented/left kudos, its because of yall that I felt motivated enough to finish!
Anyways, my thoughts on Wednesday Season 2... Erm guys im sorry dont hate me but i really disliked part 1 of season 2. They fucked up characters completely, like why is Eugene lowkey a douche?? Dont even get me started on what they did to Enid, why they got her cheating on Ajax?? How dare they make me feel sympathetic for a MAN. I feel bad for all the times ive killed Ajax in my fics now.. Can the writers let my girl be single for more than two seconds? LIKE FUCK. I hate bruno hes boring. I dont gaf about Tyler and his side story but I will say part 2 was better, i love agnes, enid, and wednesdays dynamic. Shes really their adopted daughter. MAKE WENCLAIR CANON! FUCK WYLER SHIPPERS ARE YALL BLIND??
Also y'all why did i lowkey predict season 2, I'm joking but also I'm not. Like are u kidding me? First episode we got Enid saying Pyre a shit ton of times. Gomez doesn't have outcast powers, Wednesday loses her powers for a little bit, she almost dies and reconnects with a dead person?? All I needed was a dragon to pull up. Any who I'm done yappin, as always, love y'all and I'll catch u guys on another story!
