Chapter Text
Vox thought he might never have a moment like this again.
A moment of peace. Of calmness. Of simply enjoying each other’s company, without the worry of work or monsters.
Yet here he was. Sitting on his beloved novelist’s couch, watching him chuckle at a silly meme he found.
Ah, Ike Eveland. Someone he never ceased to be amazed by. Someone who, in his mind, deserved to be a complete narcissist more than anyone on Earth. He certainly had the skills to back it up— his musical talent and passion for what he did was second to none. Yet he remained humble. He remained kind, always lending a hand to his fellow livers, even when he was supposed to be on break.
Not only that, he was downright adorable. Curled up on the couch in a loose t-shirt and sweatpants, a blanket loosely draped over his shoulders and across his lap. His fluffy hair sticking out in every direction and falling over his eyes. God, he could get lost in those eyes forever.
“Uh...Vox? Earth to Vox?”
Whoops. Stared too long.
Vox snapped out of his trance, shaking his head. Ike was looking at him with an eyebrow raised and a hand waving in front of his face.
“Were you spacing out or something? You’ve been staring for a while.” Ike asked.
“Oh, no, just admiring you.” Vox responded, earning a chuckle from the novelist.
“Some things never change, do they?”
The demon hummed in agreement. They’d known each other for...what, two years now? And he never stopped admiring him. How could he, when Ike had so much talent and kindness in his heart? Vox shuffled closer to him, laying down with his head on his lap.
“I— huh..? What are you doing?”
Vox brushed some of Ike’s hair out of his eyes. A fond smile spread across the demon’s face. How could someone be so cute yet so pretty at the same time? No wonder he didn’t notice anything off when he first met him. He was too caught up in how pretty he was, even when he was lounging around.
“You know...if you hadn’t told me you were some kind of eldritch god, I would’ve thought you were an angel.” Vox confessed.
“I don’t know if you’d be saying that if you saw my true form.” Ike responded, running his fingers through the demon’s hair.
“I dunno about that. If anything I’d probably think it was even more attractive.”
“Wha—?”
Ike grabbed a pillow and smacked it against Vox’s face, making him laugh. Yep, that was still Ike. The same man he knew and loved from the very beginning. Even with his odd past, he couldn’t see him any differently. Vox gently placed a hand on the novelist’s cheek, admiring the way his skin heated up a little under his touch.
“In all seriousness...it wouldn’t change anything. And I mean it when I say that. To me, you’re still the same metal-screaming, vocaloid-loving, meme-quoting novelist I’ve grown to love. Doesn’t matter if you’re human or not.”
The man in question smiled softly, placing a hand over his and leaning into his touch. Vox wished he could preserve this moment forever. Keep it in a time capsule so that he could replay it over and over again. But moments like this were fleeting, so he had to cherish them as much as he could while they lasted.
“...thanks, Vox. That really does mean a lot to me.”
“The last person you’d have to worry about thinking you’re weird is me. Now c’mere and give me a lil’ kissy.”
“Noooo, cease this!”
Ike pushed Vox’s face away as the demon wrapped his arms around him, trying to pepper his face in kisses. Vox managed to push past his hands and plant kisses onto his temple and cheek. Ike tried pushing him away again, but the two of them tumbled back onto the couch, with Vox laying on top of him. Their eyes met for a moment before they both started to laugh.
“You’re such a dork sometimes, you know that?” Ike commented, wrapping his arms around the larger man.
“Oh come on, don’t act like you don’t like it.”
“Oh no, I’m not denying that I like it. I just think you’re a dork.”
“As long as I can be your dork, I’ll be happy.”
Ike chuckled and ran his fingers through his hair. “Yeah, you can be my dork.”
“Can I be your little pogchamp?”
“Wha— no! Cease this!”
Vox laughed as Ike playfully smacked him on the shoulder. Someday he’d get him to say it. Maybe as a batsu? But that would require some sort of collab where batsus would be involved...ah, he could figure that out later. For now he just wanted to cuddle. The demon snuggled close to Ike, resting his head on his chest and listening to his heartbeat. It sounded...calm. Soothing. Much like the man himself.
“You comfy there, Vox?”
“Mhm. Might take a nap here.”
“You sure you don’t want a pillow instead?”
“Nahhh, this is way better.”
“Alright, if you say so. Wanna see something I found on twitter?”
“Of course I do.”
Vox hummed in satisfaction as Ike pressed a kiss onto the top of his head. This was nice. Cuddling his favorite novelist on the couch on a chilly day, without a single worry. No monsters. No searching for food. Nothing. Just the two of them in their own little world.
Ike pulled out his phone and scrolled through his bookmarks. He had quite a few memes to show Vox now that they were back.
