Summary
It is 1919. Peacefully retired to a little farm on the Sussex South Downs, Holmes has gifted Watson a new notebook and suggested he start to chronicle his own life instead of Holmes’s. Here we have some of Watson’s private (and somewhat scatterbrained) reflections on how their lives have changed over the decades since Watson’s marriage to Mary, Holmes’s disappearance, and the strain put on their relationship by the demands of patriotism in 1914.
