An Observation

Summary:

Humans were strange creatures from another plane of existence, another world. They came to Perim to scan creatures and play their games in a place called Chaotic. The creatures think over their bond and make an observation of their respective humans.

Chapter 1: Overworld Ruler

Chapter Text

When humans first arrived, they were a pain in his side. Always getting into things and causing problems. He even felt betrayed by trusting one. Then he showed up. Maxxor believed he was going to be yet another annoyance to get under his skin. However, this ebony haired human was, different. Upon the first meeting. This human had some redhead following him. The human went on a passionate speech concerning Maxxor. The orc didn’t know how to exactly process this hero worship. Was it a ploy to let his guard down? Upon Frafdo threatening the red headed human, there was a flash of anger in the ebony haired human’s eyes. That worshiping aura now gone replaced with a sharp tone. Which prompted Maxxor to threaten him in order to put him in his place. Upon leaving the cell the two were held in, he overheard the redhead talk about Chaor and how Chaor would never treat him that way. Which made Maxxor suspicious. Throughout that first encounter, that human was a bit hostile but there was a sense of understanding behind the way he looked at Maxxor. Telling the leader that this wasn’t just some game to him and he had a name. Even so this Tom went as far as to help them escape from danger in the end. Along with the help of two other humans. Since then, Tom has been constantly helping the Overworld.

Ever since then, Maxxor has been observing humans. He couldn’t really do much of this given the unrest between tribal conflict. However, he was able to do so with Tom. Tom was a great ally to him during those times. Though the redhead that followed him, annoying... Though there was clearly a strong unbreakable bond between them. Despite Kaz being a staunch supporter of the Underworld and fanboy of Maxxor’s archrival, Chaor. Tom was different than the other humans. He wasn’t self-centered and selfish. He had a sense of unwavering loyalty and justice. The more Maxxor spoke with him and spent time with him. The more friendly he gotten with Tom. He was trustworthy. Though... There was always a sense of unease. Maxxor was a busy creature with his duty as ruler. So sometimes Tom’s presence was distracting and a tad bit annoying when Maxxor needed to focus. Tom eventually understood this silent complaint. As if he was able to detect Maxxor’s annoyance with him. It was rather surprising considering Maxxor didn’t want to exactly be rude to Tom. Though he greatly appreciated that Tom knew the appropriate time and place to visit.

Even now, that the war against the M’arrillians is over. Tom still respected the need for distance. Maxxor however wished to spend more time enjoying Tom’s company. He isn’t sure what exactly happened over the time they knew each other. That once passionate hero idolism was gone. Replaced by an odd sense of uncertainty in Tom. Was it something Maxxor said or did to cause this? He, himself, wasn’t sure.

So, he began to really observe his friend’s behavior. Upon doing so, he learned there was much more to Tom’s feelings than originally thought. Tom was still the helpful person he was to those who needed it. As well as being assertive and partly aggressive to those who deserved it. There was a strong sense of justice in him. He also noted that Tom has a need for excitement and loved to chase after an adrenaline sort of high. A fondness for exploring Perim and enjoying the beauty surrounding it. He also enjoyed hanging out and going on adventures with his friends. Who, Maxxor found out, were supporters of the other tribes. Tom stood firm in his support for the Overworld. Kaz was a fanatic Underworld player. Sarah strongly preferred Danians. With Peyton enjoying the Mipedians, even if he was fine with any creature from the other tribes. It was strange how different their beliefs in their respective tribes were. They got along well and were good friends despite their differences. It was sort of admirable.

Even so, Maxxor kept studying how Tom acted around him. Keeping a fair distance between them when hanging out together. Doing mundane things like walking around Kiru City or even checking on various places within the Overworld. If anyone were to ask Tom on his stance of their friendship. He was a bit hesitant, as if unsure. Tangath had once told Maxxor that Tom had said “Maxxor is my friend.” before the human paused and almost questionably corrected, “Well. I’m his friend.” Which to Maxxor was, strange. Did Tom not feel their relationship was genuine? It may explain why Tom was the way he is now. Which honestly made Maxxor feel a bit bad about how he treated him in the past. It wasn’t his fault he was busy and had to ignore him in favor of more important things. Tom probably didn’t like being pushed aside. Though he did come to respect Maxxor’s decision.

Tom was a good friend, and Maxxor wouldn’t have it any other way. Well... Maybe they could be closer but that wasn’t possible given Tom’s best friend was Kaz. Maxxor wanted to be best friends, but he supposes he will accept being good friends instead. Still doesn’t stop him from allowing Tom to wander freely in the palace. Though it was slightly concerning that Tom knew where Maxxor’s chambers were and Maxxor has caught him in there from time to time. Even found Tom hanging out in his study. It was almost like he lived at the palace. The guards were understandably questioning if this was alright. With Maxxor having to reassure them that in fact, it was. Though Maxxor wasn’t sure how to go about the fact Tom would randomly be in his bedroom. Not that he minded per say, just curious and confused. Tom did leave out of rooms when told, so that was a plus. He faintly recalls a passing conversation between Tom and Kaz. The latter teasing Tom about why he knew where that was. Tom stuttering a response, claiming it was because of fighting in the dromes. Though Tom knew where a lot of rooms of importance were. It would make sense to go there to see if Maxxor was there. Though if Maxxor wished to find Tom, himself. He would be in one of those rooms, the Armory where Bodal was, or possibly at Najarin’s Castle. Seldom chance he was in Prexxor Chasm visiting Smildon.

When the two did have time to hang out. Besides the usual mundane things and walking around Kiru City. As well as when Maxxor wasn’t checking on locations due to his duties. They would wander and enjoy the scenery of several locations. Maxxor would even see how excited Tom would be about going on a scan quest. Maxxor took the opportunity to see what a scan quest entailed. Which Maxxor quickly found himself snatching up Tom and hurriedly rushing away from more feral and dangerous creatures. It was to a point Maxxor even scolded him. Tom usually pouted and shrugged. His excuse was that it was part of the thrill. And the whole point of a scan quest was similar in a way to hunting. The prize at the end wasn’t a kill to obtain food. The concept was however the same. Just instead humans get a scan to use in their drome battles. Maxxor could understand that. He just wished Tom would learn some form of self-preservation. To which Tom pointed out, his friend Kaz was far more reckless than he was. Great, now Maxxor is partly worried for Tom’s friend. Despite how he didn’t like the tiny menace. Though, he’ll accept that Kaz is and will be an important person to Tom. And he rather Tom be happy to have such a close friendship. Another thing Tom pointed out. Chaotic players can reset their bodies when porting back to Chaotic. So, if they get injured or worse. As long as they port out in time. The damage done to them is undone. Though the only downside is, whatever they experience stays with them. Tom mentions offhand that his best friend got eaten by one of Mommark’s creations. This resulted in Maxxor nearly choking on the drink he had in the moment. He’ll have to have a word with Mommark, yet again.

One of the interesting things about Tom. Is just like his friend Kaz. Tom liked to collect other things besides scans. He would sometimes show up and show off a cool item he found while adventuring. They weren’t that much of an interest to Maxxor. Though he was impressed by the number of things Tom has found. It was to a point that Maxxor eventually gave Tom his own room in the Palace.  A place to store all the items Tom saw fit to keep. Apparently, the items are used to barter with creatures for other things, given the fact players can’t exactly carry Perim money. Maxxor learned that when humans port out, whatever item from Perim is left behind where they port. That includes gold coins. So, it makes sense.

Another interesting thing about Tom and other humans, Maxxor has learned. Is that despite their body being code, they still experience hunger and thirst despite not actually needing it. Since these bodies of theirs aren’t exactly real. However, they can still technically die or coded, as the players call it. At which point, the humans will no longer be able to exist in Perim. So, to some understanding. Maxxor has learned that humans in the world of Perim are both corporeal and discorporate at the same time. A rather astonishing discovery. Their actual bodies remain in their own world, or irl as the players call it. Whatever that meant. Still, Maxxor wasn’t sure how to feel if something happened to Tom. It worried him more than he thought. Sure, he would still be alive in their world but in Perim... Maxxor would never see him again. So, in a sense he would in fact be dead by Perim standards. An unnervingly terrifying idea. Something Maxxor didn’t wish to dwell on.

All in all, Maxxor enjoys the time he does spend with Tom. Despite everything that has happened with Tom that led up to this point. He will always treasure Tom as his friend. And he looks forward to what the future brings regarding his friend. He also hopes that the bond between them continue to grow and never waiver. He truly enjoys Tom being there to talk to.

Chapter 2: King of the Underworld

Chapter Text

Chaor always had a strong dislike towards humans, damn near hated them. He couldn’t even stand their very presence near him. He sure as hell didn’t allow these annoying humans to scan him. He wouldn’t stand for such disrespect. He also has no care for their wellbeing. If they wanted to be stupid and fuck around in his domain. Then it was their own stupidity that brought them harm. He was rather apathetic about the players anyways. If he even found them crawling around his castle, he’d have them imprisoned. Too bad those damn scanners ported them out so they couldn’t learn their lesson. What an aggravating species. The idea of them getting hurt was entertaining though.

That was until H’earring wished to introduce him to a curious outlier of the species. Despite his harsh disapproval. The pintsized scout had insisted he meet this singular human. Why, might one ask? Because apparently this human was the sole one of his kind to constantly talk about Chaor in such good light. How? How was it even possible when Chaor made it known he would try to incinerate a player on sight. Well... As much as he sort of hated them. He knew it wouldn’t exactly be right to straight up murder the pests. Besides, the initial scare of such a harrowing experience did drive home the fact he wasn’t to be messed with nor approached. Regardless. This one human was constantly recommended to Chaor to meet. Eventually, and begrudgingly, he allowed the scout to bring this pest to meet him. Especially considering it was at the worst possible time too. If there was one thing he disliked more than humans, it was Van Bloot. Still from what the scout said. This human held Chaor in such high regard.

Upon meeting this human, who looked underwhelming and downright puny. Which honestly aggravated Chaor due to the audacity of H’earring suggesting this poor excuse to him. He was quickly surprised by the look in this redhead’s eyes behind the rose tinted glasses. Chaor immediately discerned that this human had no fear of him. In fact, this human immediately went off on some fanatic rant of how amazing Chaor was. Which honestly stroked his ego. Even more so given the words were said with such genuine feelings. Chaor has encountered many creatures who speak such words yet had no real truth behind them. Usually said to sway or impress Chaor with false praise. The human continued to talk before Agitos got him to shut up. Though Chaor wasn’t partly listening as he looked over the human. If the human was so inclined to blindly trust Chaor wholeheartedly, then he was a good candidate for a useful pawn. Though he was outraged by the fact the human wouldn’t infiltrate Gothos Tower. Even more so by the notion of even letting a human act as a mouth piece for him. No amount of praise would ever change Chaor’s stance on his own pride. Though Takinom’s suggestion quelled his anger. The human was useful after all. Though, how was the human not afraid of him but shuddered at the idea of going near Gothos Tower. Such a perplexing sense of reasoning. Even so. He waved this human off. Though he did grow impatient and left. Though not without a plan of using the human as a sort of test subject. If the human showed up to Gothos Tower that is.

He didn’t expect the human to show up at all. He was surprised by the fact the tiny human did show up! Without really thinking he latched onto the human and jerked him out of harm's way. Why did he even pull the damn brat when he disliked humans? He didn’t even like touching them. Yet, something compelled him. Such an annoyance. Throughout that battle, Chaor even took a powerful attack that would have killed the human. Again, angered by such a thing happening. He took it out on Van Bloot. He had no care for humans. Yet he still protected this one. Was it because that genuine praise got to him? Was it because he found the human to be a useful pawn in the future? No, it was something else. He wasn’t sure of it. Though he felt like whatever the feeling. He would see to it to keep the human close. He put it in his own mind that maybe the human would make a good pet, he didn’t fucking know nor cared about the details. He just knew the way the human acted around him stroked his ego and made him even more prideful. Maybe that was it. He was egotistical after all, and he had a lot of pride. He was the king of the Underworld after all, and everyone should bow down and show him respect. He couldn’t even help the slight smirk he gave when the human vanished. Though he did tell the human he owned his life to him. A small guarantee to ensure this particular human returns. He was... Interesting to say the least.

Over time of knowing this human, come to be known as Kaz. Chaor found him to be intriguing. As well as rather amusing. Despite the inane prattling he does of topics that weren’t even relevant to the conversation. Such an annoying trait... Even more annoying was, once Chaor began to tolerate the brat. Kaz saw fit to break into his castle whenever he wanted. An aggravating occurrence. Though it did help Chaor learn some faults in his security system. Commanding his guards to better their patrols in those areas which can be used to invade the castle. This human also seemed to have a knack for being in the same area as Chaor. Which honestly ticked him off to no end. How could this damn human even track him? He came to figure out H’earring was a good portion for that. The other was the fact that Kaz was able to partly track him with that damn scanner. Chaor once tried to destroy one of those devices but found them to be insanely durable, even for his strength. Aggravating hunk of junk.

During that time, he came to know Kaz, He had grown fonder towards him. At which point, he was no longer just a mere pawn. The human truly enjoyed his company and followed him around like a shadow. Always so excited just to be near him. This human was fine, he guessed. Still didn’t stop him from hating the others. Especially that damn overworlder, Kaz called a friend. Though... There was something more to them. Chaor simply ignored that. At least Kaz knew not to bring the overworlder into his castle. Which by that point, Chaor had allowed Kaz to have access to a good portion of it. He, however, was forbidden from the royal wing of the castle. Kaz had merely tilted his head at that and shrugged. Yet Chaor knew the brat was going to find a loophole. He learned Kaz was highly intelligent. As well as being petty and underhanded if need be. The traits of a true underworlder. Even the reckless abandon Kaz gets when hyper-focused on a scan during his quests. Though the unwavering loyalty was seldom found among underworld creatures. Only a select few had such ties to Chaor like that. Such as Takinom, Agitos, Khybon, Rothar, and Kopond. They were dealt with such casualness from Chaor, himself. Even if he and Khybon disagreed on Iron Pillar. They were still part of his inner circle. Though he didn’t put much stock in H’earring. The two didn’t get along despite how valuable the tiny green rabbit was. Sometimes Chaor wanted to punt the tiny fucker. Still, he had his uses. He was also apparently a close friend of Kaz’s.

Now regarding Kaz. Chaor had heard of his exploits in the Underworld by his tribemates. Rather impressive to say the least. Speaking of Kaz’s actions. Chaor had been irked by the audacity of the tiny human pawing at him. The first time it happened was when Kaz grabbed his tail. Chaor damn near lashed his tail to get whatever it was off of it. Only to find out it was the human. Annoying little shit but whatever. Such an act was shocking to those around Chaor. How dare an insignificant human touch their lord! Though Chaor didn’t seem bothered, just annoyed. Chaor did tend to roar at Kaz. Even puff smoke into his face. The only response the human gave was typically, “Rude.” Before going off to mind his own business. Chaor recalls the time back before the alliance. He had slipped up and called the human, Kazzy. He was partly taken aback by his own feeling of affection towards the human. He simply shrugged it off. Though he continued to call him that when they were alone. He also protected Kaz from things. He didn’t like seeing the human hurt. Even seeing bruises on the human enraged him for whatever reason. The human was obedient too, which was pleasing to Chaor. Kaz would make a fuss but always hand his scanner to Chaor when prompted.

There were also plenty of times where the human was amusing. One such case was when Kaz was dealing with Hammerdoom. After the whole battle with Hammerdoom, Chaor eventually brought it up. Asking Kaz how he was so terrified of Hammerdoom but showed no fear to Chaor, himself. Kaz’s response was fearful yet blunt. “Unlike you, Hammerdoom wants to kill me!” He responded. Hammerdoom was shorter than Kaz, but the human feared him. Chaor made a mental note to be wary of other creatures wishing to harm Kaz. Out of all humans, he truly grown to care for Kaz. Which was still surprising even to himself. He even grown accustomed to the aimless rambling Kaz would have when they hung out. Which no longer annoyed Chaor. In fact, when the human wasn’t there. The silence would be a tad overbearing. Chaor was so used to Kaz that he wouldn't even be bothered to reprimand the tiny human. Especially when Chaor found the tiny human in his private bed chamber. He just looked at him before shrugging. The human was harmless, anyways. So why worry about Kaz snooping around his room? He found it amusing. Even more so when he caught Kaz under his bed. Tiny gremlin. The human also tended to stash things under there. Stuff Kaz would find on his little adventures. Always showing Chaor every new and interesting thing he found. It was impressive to say the least and some of the objects piqued Chaor’s interest. Kaz was a tiny kleptomaniac it seems. Also, apparently Kaz had an obsession with fires. So not only a klepto but also a pyro. How utterly entertaining.

All in all. His observation of Kaz was entertaining at best and slightly annoying at worst. The human wasn’t fazed by Chaor in the slightest. No amount of growling, roaring, yelling, or snap of teeth at him, bothered Kaz. The tiny human would just tilt his head at him. Even going as far as smacking him on the snoot for his behavior. Kaz was the only one Chaor would get down to eye level with. Which he never does to anyone or anything. Though sometimes Chaor was tempted to snatch the human into his massive maw just to see his reaction during such moments. The human was also pliant when snatch up to be held or scruffed when Chaor was bored or annoyed. Which was amusing. The human trusted him that much. Though Chaor has tossed the little shit at times onto furniture. Only for the tiny human to find it amusing.

Chaor has never been so attached to a human before. He was the only human he allowed close. And he was the only human Chaor would kill for. Though he wasn’t sure if it was a fondness or something else. It was probably that he hated things of his being taken or messed with. After all, Kazzy was his.

Chapter 3: Desert Princes

Chapter Text

Mudeenu was the first to notice this rotund human within Al Mipedim. He recalled this human coming to the aid of Maxxor at one of the outposts. It was truly annoying. However. He had been hearing interesting talk from the creatures within mipedian territory. This human, known as Peyton, was in fact quite popular with everyone. Normally humans are like an exotic invasive species. Exotic because upon their initial appearance around Perim. They didn’t look anything close to creatures. Despite some having similar features to some. They were also annoying with their insistent interruption of creature’s daily lives just to get some scan for a stupid game. However, unlike the rest of the rabble, this particular human was intriguing. Able to befriend even the roughest of creatures within the desert.

He didn’t understand how such a thing was possible. He also hasn’t personally interacted with Peyton in the earlier times before the invasion of those aquatic freaks. Though now he finds himself in the brunette’s company. He had silently observed how the creatures interacted with Peyton. Many are overly friendly and relaxed around him as if he, himself, was a mipedian. Some such relations of note involved Vinta, Zhade, Siado, Tianne, and Sobtjek. They were very taken with Peyton and even helped him with scans for his game. From the information Mudeenu had gathered. One of the creatures Peyton used the most was in fact Mudeenu, himself. Granted he heard Peyton plays different creatures from the other tribes. He was mainly one to veer towards mipedians. Such an interesting human. Especially given he is friends with three other humans who prefer the other tribes.

Peyton himself was a guy who tended to get along with everyone he meets, except for a select few. He also hangs out in various local gathering areas. From the Lounge to the Oasis, even in the bazaar, and several locations in between. He seemed to have a friend in every location. Quite the charismatic human, indeed. Mudeenu sort of wished he got to know Peyton personally sooner. He was rather amusing to speak with. Despite him being odd and sometimes overly boisterous. He even made short to long noises. Making such strange noises during conversations as he used his hands to communicate as well to emphasize things. He also tends to have random involuntary movements at times. Mudeenu wasn’t sure what those were about. He just knew that Peyton was an excitable and energetic human who couldn’t sit still. He even couldn’t keep a secret to save his life, from what Mudeenu found out.

Upon getting to build a better relation with Peyton. Mudeenu’s cousin Iflar had also taken to the happy go lucky human. His cousin found him quite entertaining. Mudeenu supposes it couldn’t be that bad for Iflar to befriend Peyton. Especially since his talks were sincere and not like the typical shmoozing that others had tried with Iflar. Another thing to note was that not only was Peyton always in high spirits. He also seemed to be quite the eater too. He constantly brought them snacks and food from different places. Even some strange foods from Chaotic. He was able to get Iflar from being stressed with the royal council. Even if he was the head of it. The other nobles were rather uppity and annoying. Also very pushing for things they wanted instead of the good for all of their tribe. Selfish... Though Peyton was nothing like them nor was he anything like other humans. He had a lot of respect for creatures. Finding a strength in even the weakest among the tribe. Encouraging them with a bright smile and overwhelming inspirational speeches. Even if some of the things he says doesn’t make sense. There was still an uplifting tone in his voice. Which honestly was like a rallying call to those who heard it. Mudeenu was impressed and came to accept Peyton as an honorary tribe member.

Iflar, himself, never had time to really worry over the appearance of humans. He had more important things to do and left a good majority of rulings to his cousin Mudeenu. Iflar had to mainly deal with upholding law and order while his father was gone. A very heavy taxing task for the silver dragon. He was always so stressed out. Until he started to hear about a human named Peyton. Just hearing the exploits by this human was like becoming immersed in a book. Iflar would sometimes imagine what the human was doing and if he was having as much fun as it sounded. Even if Iflar was stuck inside behind a desk or in the gathering hall for important council meetings. He knew he could live vicariously through this human. After all his adventures through Perim was probably the closest Iflar could get to experiencing places outside the desert himself. The only real time he left the palace was during the invasion where he led a battalion to open fire on those monsters taking over. He couldn’t just sit back when those beasts were destroying ecosystems and brainwashing loved ones of the creatures of Perim.

Such harrowing times are now in the past. Soon Iflar was able to meet the player that had entertained him via stories and rumors from those within the palace. Mudeenu found it appropriate to finally introduce him after ensuring Peyton was of no threat. His cousin was cautious and had his own way of identifying the personality of others. So, when Iflar got to meet Peyton, he was blindsided by just how energetic the human was in person. It was rather infectious, which elevated Iflar’s mood significantly. Oh, what a joy to sit and listen to the silly shenanigans and escapades Peyton and his friends go on. How utterly exciting in fact! To such amazing locations and daring adventures. Watching the large human jump and bounce around as he waves his arms while excitedly reenacting those stories was an absolute treat. He was truly a fun companion to have around. The boring repetitive tasks Iflar does was now filled with a merry cacophony of words that helped ease the stress. Peyton sure had so much energy. Iflar wished he could have that as well. Even his personal bodyguard, Maliph, was put in an entertaining mood by the human.

Peyton did more than simply hang out and gush about his adventures. He also made it a point to constantly bring food to Iflar and insist he ate. Which Iflar was guilty of getting so invested in his work he would miss meals. Peyton even physically dragged Iflar away from his desk in order to shove him somewhere he could relax. Peyton wouldn’t budge until Iflar complied. To be honest, it was a welcome change of pace. Despite the nobles getting huffy about the human’s supposed meddling in private affairs. To which there was none to begin with. Peyton was a friend concerned with Iflar’s wellbeing. He wasn’t bound by royal duties or even the roles of his own bodyguard. He was a free spirit who was able to do whatever he wanted. Social class be damned. He didn’t have status to worry about nor a worry of the consequence of his actions. The worst that could happen from his so called meddling was to be told to leave the palace.

In regard to how both of the princes felt about their relation to Peyton. It was an overall positive experience. Even more so due to how well Peyton gets along with others. Even if he seemed to be carefree, he still got serious when he needed to be. Even firm in his decisions regarding certain topics of interest. Also, he was a good source of knowledge outside of the desert. Even his openness to talk about how his friends helped where they could in their respective tribe. Peyton also saw fit to do his best so the cousins could have more time spent together and just unwind. He even managed to get them to act like hatchlings again. Which the two of them missed the games and troubles they got into when not studying. They even started going to the various events in the Oasis. Peyton always reminded them to chill and vibe. Which they quickly learned means to relax and enjoy the moment. To just live in the moment and appreciate the places around them. He also convinced them to go camping within the lush forest in the Oasis. It was fun to do and to simply enjoy the stars. But oh, the teasing! Peyton being sly and funny as he asked if the princes had their eye on someone. Oh, that little menace. He had Mudeenu blushing and Iflar giggling over his cousin’s embarrassment. It would be nice to find someone to settle down with now that things weren't as tense among the tribes. Still, the sight of Mudeenu chasing Peyton around while snapping at him was an enjoyable experience.

Above all else. The princes have come to adore their friendship with Peyton. And appreciate how he cared so deeply for them. Getting to watch his interactions with others in the tribe was hopeful for the princes. Maybe there were other humans like him who could bring smiles. Even those friends of his were nice and had friends within the desert. They honestly wish things would never change. That the events that lead them here was worth it to get to know such a loyal friend.

Chapter 4: Within the Hive

Chapter Text

An absolute mess is what he was in. And he was too ashamed to call for help to his fellow mandiblors because the situation was embarrassing. That’s when a human showed up and helped him out big time. Now. Humans were seen as pests who skitter around the hive just like any feral pest creature. At least that's what the higher ups in the hive believed. Humans were quite a nuisance to be sure. However. This female human was different. Even if she was pushy and demanding. She ended up becoming his little secret. A friend of sorts. He helps her and she helps him. Straight cut and dry. A sensible transactional deal, right? Wrong. She was more than what he heard humans to be like. Despite her haughty nature. She was actually kind of nice when it counts. Over time. They became friends. Even if she got him in trouble at times. She still provided some much needed help in some of his tasks and even brought him things to keep his superiors happy enough to leave him be. He was a giant lazy bug that just didn’t want to work. So, he was willing to put a mild bit of effort to help this female known as Sarah, just so he didn’t have to do the backbreaking labor expected of mandiblors. In his eyes, it was worth it.

Sarah was not like other humans who snuck into the hive. He found out that she was avid on the inner workings of the hive and its hierarchy. Something not most Chaotic players cared for from what he seen. So, she was interesting. Though, he honestly didn’t care too much about how the hive was ran. Nor did he really want to do his job to support it. He just wanted to crawl into a hole and sleep the day away. Anything to ignore the buzzing of hive calls and the commands sent to him. If only he didn’t have to hear all of that at every waking hour. He wonders if humans have voices from others in their species talking to them. He eventually got the answer from her. Apparently, they don’t, lucky. Even so. He got to be good friends with her and found an interest in what she does. He can look past her rather disturbing hobbies. She had a drive for studying insects. And not just by observing, oh no. He shudders to think of what she was capable of back in her world. He rather focus on her friendship and all the delicious snacks she brings from Chaotic. So much food they didn’t even have in Perim! Cakes, burgers, soda, fries, and pizza! Also, several other things too. He was already massive. So, a few extra pounds wouldn’t really hurt him. He was already a glutton for food. It was all fun and that until others started to find out about her. Oh boy. He is really going to have to bust his thorax for her, isn’t he?

Humans were so aggravating! On top of that, that lazy ass mandiblor, Wamma was friends with one! Oh, how pissed Odu-Bathax was when he found out. The crass blue beetle like ant was nearly having a conniption over this. Of all the lazy louts in this damn hive and Wamma of all creatures was the worst. The female was also a thorn in his exoskeleton. Not only her but her group of idiot friends too! Such a headache. Though despite everything, he was helpless to stop her. She just kept finding new ways into the hive. No matter how hard he tried to stop her. He blames Wamma for this. Though he does have to take into account his own performance. So, he trained more and more. She was crafty for a human. Far more than any other human he chased off with blasters blazing. She was basically making a fool out of a Battle Master!

Though despite all this. Odu-Bathax unfortunately learned that Sarah was not going to be swayed by anything any creature says. Especially when it came to the hive. Even more so after those damn M’arrillians invaded! Given the situation of it all and later learning through the hive call that the human saved the Queen long before the doors were opened. He supposes he could put up with her. Even running into her from time to time after the Queen gave her access. He still wasn’t happy about it. Sarah was blunt and to the point. Called him Odu for short. Whatever. She isn’t too bad, but she still shouldn’t be snooping around all over the place. He certainly didn’t like her snarky attitude... Well... Actually... It was sort of amusing. He hates to admit. Still couldn’t believe the situation he found himself was all due to Wamma. He wondered how Wamma and Sarah even became friends. What was Wamma hiding? Didn’t matter. Now Sarah was following him around and teasing him when she was bored. Anything to rile him up and make him snap. As much as he hated it. He had to give her credit. She was probably the only human not scared of his aggressive attitude. Nor his crass personality. And it wasn’t like she ranked higher him. Okay maybe she did given that she is a female. Damn hierarchy bullshit. He wished he could raise his rank like Wamma did. Though he heard Wamma lost that rank for doing something stupid.

Curious. So very curious. Is what the queen had originally thought of humans. Having never seen one before until Sarah showed up to warn her about an attempted kidnapping so long ago. Humans were so puny. Yet Sarah was fierce and held herself high. Even her attitude was amusing. She liked her. Liked her a lot. So much so, she gave Sarah limited access to the hive just so the mandiblors wouldn’t have to waste time on dealing with her instead of actual threats to the hive. Sarah was interesting and gave more insight to Perim. Especially places the queen couldn’t go. Even if the tiny human was blunt and snarky. She held great respect for Illexia. At least she had manners. As time went on, Illexia allowed Sarah to scan her for these Chaotic battles the human does. Such an interesting concept. Wonder what it is like? Nevertheless. She enjoyed the human’s company. She was far more favorable than other humans who barge into the hive with reckless abandon. Sarah was smart about it. Her knowledge of how the hive operates was even more impressive.

Sarah was quite the human for sure. Illexia truly enjoyed the time she had with the human during her reign over the hive. Eventually, however. She wouldn’t be in charge for much longer. She did have an heir. Her daughter Aszil was to take the throne and become new queen of the hive. Illexia wishing to move to another area to start a hive based solely on ancestral callings. Something more spiritual than what was going on here in the hive. So, Illexia thought it only right to introduce her human friend to her daughter. As well as her friend and elemental mentor, Tassanil. With the entire invasion over. She felt proud and knew her daughter would rule the hive well. Maybe even better than Illexia, herself. Time will tell. Regardless. She introduces Sarah to them both. Tassanil seemed to recognize Sarah from somewhere, not much to Illexia’s surprise. The noble was part of the main forces to fight those invading creatures. Her daughter on the other hand was curious. The new queen was intrigued by what this human accomplished. After giving her blessing to her mother to do an exodus to create the new Nest of the Ancestors. Aszil was left to understand more of her mother’s friend. Having been aware that Sarah helped save her mother. She held the human in high regard.

Over time of knowing this human. She had learned much about the world beyond the hive. She looked forward to the tales of these scan quests, Sarah went on. She also found it rather fascinating that the three males who were friends with her, were avid followers of the other tribes. From the way it sounds. These humans get along very well. Sarah also seemed to have more friends besides the three. However, she spoke more of the three than the others. Signifying their importance to her. Though Azsil couldn’t fathom how this red haired friend, Sarah talked about, was obsessed with Chaor. It seemed... Unhealthy. Yet from her understanding there was a close relation between them. Just as were the other two with their respective tribal leaders. For these humans to become so entwined with the leaders. It was astounding and awe inspiring. Truly a testament to their unwavering sense of loyalty.

As much as Azsil enjoyed her in-depth talks with Sarah. She did have a hive to command. As well as studying the various elements within the world of Perim. She also had other things she rather keep a secret from the human. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Sarah. It is just that she wished to keep some details about herself private. As well as her dealings with others. So, when she was busy. She would send Sarah off to bug another bug. Wamma was a good bet, seeing how he was already close with Sarah. Odu-Bathax complained but it wasn’t up to him. Though Azsil took notice how Sarah and Tassanil interacted. Given her friend had learned to work better with other tribes and his willingness to work with those of lower stations given his outspoken personality. Azsil saw fit to let her friend spend time with Sarah if the other two weren’t available. After all, Tassanil wasn’t an elitist like the other nobles. Who snuffed at the idea of even humoring the new queen’s request to keep a human entertained.

Tassanil really was a good choice to help keep Sarah busy when she visited the hive. Besides him being a tutor for elemental studies. He was also the High Keeper of the Reservoir. Still, he enjoyed learning new things about others. He wasn’t dismissive towards anyone. He also worked well with everyone, regardless of status. So, upon the formal introduction to Sarah. He was quite taken with knowing more about her. Having only heard various rumors of her and sighting of her from afar. It was a chance to actually know her personally. An exciting endeavor to be sure if it meant he could learn even more information regarding her and others.

The first thing he found out about her was her macabre sense of study in the field of insects known as entomology. Not only did she study them in their natural habitat and had a few as pets. She also pinned them up in displays to write notes upon their body structure. The way he learned this was due to him working his job and her openly staring at him. When he prompted a question as to why. Her response was rather self-explanatory. Given he is a type of aquatic water beetle of some sort as well as an ant. She was going over the shape and design of his exoskeleton. Citing that she enjoyed watching danians to see how their bodies moved. Speculating that due to him being aquatic, his body was more adept at fighting within the water than those who are land bound. Saying that their exoskeleton seemed much sturdier. He wasn’t offended. He was more amazed that she could discern this information by simply watching him. He knows his body wasn’t as durable. Didn’t stop him from being a general in the war against those invaders.

That wasn’t the only thing he learned about her. There was a wealth of knowledge she had concerning other things revolving around insects beside the design of their bodies. She was rather proud of that. He also wasn’t bothered by her attitude nor her tone of voice. Her interaction with others was amusing. When she wasn’t harassing the others. She usually followed him around. Using him as some sort of test subject. He honestly didn’t mind.  Now if only her observations about danians remained visual only. He was rather sensitive in certain areas she poked at when he wasn’t paying attention. He took note that she does this nearly to every danian she considered herself close to. He just hopes she doesn’t want to pin him to a display board. Especially after the comment of if it was possible to make armor out of a dead danian. The short answer he gave was, “Yes.” before dropping the subject.

In regard to Sarah and her exploits about the hive. She wasn’t so bad. She also had other friends in the hive. So, what if her attitude seemed demanding and pushy. She was sincere about defending her friends regardless of species. She carried herself high and had pride in herself and her studies. She was a nuisance to some and treat for others. It really depended on who she was talking to in the moment. Ultimately, she was honorary tribe member. Even if she got on some of their nerves. Then again, so did some danians to themselves. So, she wasn’t so different from them after all.

Chapter 5: Human Socialization Study

Chapter Text

By some sheer successful chance of convincing. Maxxor, Chaor, Mudeenu, and Odu-Bathax came together to meet. The reason for this meeting. Because their respective humans said it would be a good bonding practice for the alliance.  So here they were, somewhere within the Forest of Life. Why, may one ask? Because apparently camping is something humans do for fun. The four humans insisted the creatures bring tents. The humans in question. Were Tom, Kaz, Peyton, and Sarah. They were extremely close as friends. Seeing them interact was interesting. One can discern which human was close to which more. The creatures learned that Tom and Kaz were childhood best friends growing up. Sarah and Peyton were similar in that regard. Humans also express love to one another. The type of love varies between humans. Regardless this love determines how attached they are to each other. Which also determines how they react emotionally to one another in not only conversation but also their interactions. These four have a strong sense of trust.

During this 3 day weekend of camping. It was noted that Tom and Kaz would almost hang on each other. Nearly being in the same space if they could. Given they were close friends. It seemed completely normal for them. Tom expressing concern when Kaz wanders off too far. Sarah and Peyton do similar, but it wasn’t to the degree of the other two. As Kaz seems somewhat dependent on Tom. Sarah is able to hold her own with her strong attitude and sharp tongue. Even so she was friendly, though she did make a low teasing comment about the others. Peyton seems overly cuddly to Sarah more than the other two. Though he also seems to have a slightly closer relation to Kaz than he does Tom. Which was strange in itself. Peyton would however get overly worried if Sarah got into trouble. Now compared to how Tom and Sarah interacted. It was more cordial and relaxed. The two simply enjoying to be near each other but held a respectable distance. Sarah does hang off of Tom every once and a while when she was tired of walking. He didn’t seem to mind. Tom with Peyton was interesting as they had a friendly rivalry going on between each other. Though the rivalry between Kaz and Peyton somehow always started off as overly competitive, that ends with a bet being made.

Maxxor was more interested in how the humans socialized but it was hard to relax with Chaor around. Sure, there was an alliance, but Chaor still made Maxxor wary. He also saw the demon constantly snap at Kaz when the red head did something stupid. Though he took note of the fact Tom got defensive and snap back at Chaor. Though Kaz didn’t seem at all bothered by Chaor’s actions. Tom sometimes got huffy with Chaor. The ebony haired human just did not get along with the King. Tom was somewhat friendly with Mudeenu but tended to avoid Odu. Preferring to stay a slight distance from the blue beetle like ant. He didn’t keep much distance from Mudeenu. Getting close but not in the golden lizard’s space. He however kept a wide berth from Chaor and stared at him with unease. Though he seems appreciative of Chaor being protective over Kaz when a wild feral like creature popped up during the trip. Though Maxxor wished Kaz would stop making jokes concerning his face...

Chaor was mostly ticked off by this whole endeavor, but he was willing to do this just to make Kazzy happy. After all, the only human he had any respect for was Kaz. He was also rather close friends with him. He couldn’t really care for the other three. Especially not the overworlder. Chaor’s sense of apathy was much stronger to Tom than the other two. Though he did understand that Kaz and Tom were close. There was no way to break a bond like that. Kaz was overly excited about the entire trip and kept following the overworld human around. They were practically on top of each other. Which was aggravating to Chaor. What he wouldn’t give to toss the ebony haired human into the river they just passed. Chaor did keep a close eye on Kaz and even snatched him up a few times so the tiny brat wouldn’t do something stupid. Though Tom would have some form of retort to Chaor’s actions. Especially the rough handling of his friend. Though Chaor knew Kaz didn’t care of such things. Chaor really didn’t even bother to study how Kaz interacted with Odu nor Mudeenu. He just knew the tiny human constantly made jokes at Maxxor’s expense which was much more entertaining.

Mudeenu was more perceptive of Peyton’s relations with the other humans. He was cheery and seem to hype the others up. He would also make sure they were “vibing” as Peyton calls it. He was also a source of various snacks that seemed almost endless from his satchel bag. He also took note of how Peyton was to the other creatures here. He seemed overly friendly with Maxxor and Odu. Even making amusing jokes to Maxxor. As well as talking about battle gear with Odu. He seemed to know what each creature likes. He, however, kept a distance from Chaor. His use of nicknames was also different. From Royal Maliciousness to King Dreadful. Chaor’s attitude to Peyton was more accepting despite him snarling at Peyton. Guess Peyton was just entertaining enough to be somewhat tolerable. Still didn't stop Chaor’s apparent detest for humans. He just detested Peyton a little less than the other two. Still didn't stop Peyton from trying to be friendly with the king. Peyton gotten along more with Maxxor anyways. Though Mudeenu did notice Peyton calling Maxxor and Odu, his bros. Yet refrained from calling Chaor that.

Odu-Bathax had an absolute fit of having to be made to go on this useless trip. Why not send Wamma? He would have had a better time with these humans. Though, he supposed the only upside to this was getting to spare with Chaor and talk about battle gear. Even if the two argued on the finer points. Why was he here again? Right. To see the human interactions with each other. Though Odu seemed to have notice Chaor was more aggressive to the other three humans. That tiny redhead kept making jokes at Maxxor. Even calling his name several times just to call him a bitch when Maxxor looked at him. Which made Odu burst with laughter. Okay the red head was more entertaining than he thought. But his focus shouldn’t be on the others. He has to report back how Sarah talked to the other humans and other creatures. Safe to say she didn’t even once interact with Chaor. She just straight up ignored his very presence. She was more open with talking with Maxxor and Mudeenu. She was rather blunt but had some charm to her words. Odu suspects ulterior motives. Like maybe she was trying to get a scan out of them. Which Mudeenu allowed after some time. Maxxor, not so much. Odu didn’t really pay much attention to this trip. He kept getting side tracked.

Final Notes - Humans. So strange and exotic to the world of Perim. Each one unique for their species. Despite this, they are not so different from creatures. Some humans display great feats of strength, some vast intelligence, unwavering courage, surprising speed, and some able to endure the dangers of Perim. It truly wasn’t so different to a creature’s discipline stats. The only difference is they were unable to use mugic. Though that was never an issue for them. Humans were surprisingly good strategists. Able to evaluate a creature and determine the right combination of battle gear and mugics for each creature. Possibly due to their scanners. Which were strange and able to withstand a tremendous amount of force. Though it would never allow a creature to use it nor another player. Each scanner was locked to one individual. Humans are far more interesting than they first seemed.
