Summary
"Here, Ryuuzaki," Souichiro said. "Take the notebook."
But L did not take the notebook. He almost did. But, believing in that intuition, and his own strength, L reluctantly shook his head. "No," he said. Light tried to reach across from him and grab it, and L all but slapped his hand away. "Put the notebook into an evidence bag and take it back to the task force headquarters. We need to clear this scene before anyone gets hurt."
If Souichiro hesitated, it was for a moment so brief that no one could detect it. "Of course, Ryuuzaki. I'll bring Higuchi to the police car."
"Are you insane?" Light demanded as Souichiro walked away. "We need to examine that notebook!"
"We'll do so later." L sipped his coffee, still hot, but starting to cool. What he didn't say was, I'll do so by myself, although that was what he meant. Because there was one other thing L knew as well as he knew Light, as well as he knew himself.
He could not let Light become Kira again.
