third of december

Chapter 2: the end

Summary:

a short sample of the notes left on the third of june

Chapter Text

chanse got to work a little before amanda on the third of june, which is odd because chanse is only slightly better than noah when it comes to punctuality. he came in early because he’s worried about one of his best friends, angela, and wanted to catch her when she came in.

chanse walks over to his desk, but stops halfway, seeing a bouquet of white roses on the desk next to his, and a white envelope laying on everyone’s desks.

he walks up to his desk and picks up his note with shaking hands, seeing his name scrawled on the front in angela’s messy handwriting surrounded by red specks. he flips it over and uses his finger to tear open the seal. inside there is a piece of paper that had been clearly ripped out of a notebook. chanse’s eyes well up with tears as he reads the letter.

dear chanse,

i’m taking the time to write to you this note because i know i can’t do it in person. i love you so much! you are my best friend and i am so, so sorry for lying to you these past six months. you kept asking me what was wrong and i kept shouting at you and telling you i was fine. the truth is, i had hanahaki disease. i’m sure you know who it was for because you have always been able  to read me well. if you don’t know who it was for, look for the roses. it started on the third of december, and i’m writing this on the second of june. i know i won’t last much longer but i couldn’t leave without saying goodbye. i know you will be mad that i didn’t get the surgery, but i couldn’t live in a world without love. it would ruin me, more than i’ve ruined myself.

i hope you remember the fun times we had together, not the times when i was being a bitch. do you remember when we went out for sushi and it turned into a karaoke bar tour where you won almost everywhere we went? that was one of my favorite memories with you because we were so free and not restrained by the world that just wants to put people down.

there’s also the time we took an impromptu weekend trip to colorado and went skiing even through neither of us knew how to ski. we never really figured out how to, but i hope you will learn and ski for the both of us. i hope you complete our bucket list of endless traveling and adventures and come visit me to tell me all about it. or there’s the time me, you, and mandy were filming the hidden chocolate episode and you bit my metal wrench so i wouldn’t feel left out. i don’t think that made it into the video, but it shows the true you. it shows your kindness and loyalty to your friends. i always admired that about you. stay who you are, okay?

i love you. this is goodbye.

i will miss you even in the afterlife,

- ange

p.s. i’ll see you in like 50 years

amanda gets back home almost as soon as she got to work. ian and anthony had quickly canceled the work day as soon as they caught wind of the letters. hardzei is still at home on his lunch break, so when amanda comes through the door sobbing, he is able to rush to her.

he notes what she is carrying: a vase of white roses, her phone, and two notes. one note starts with “my dear amanda,” but he can’t make out the other one until she hands it to him. after reading it he pulls her into a hug and gets them comfy on the couch. he calls out sick for the rest of his shift, taking the time to help his lovely amanda.

he is so confused. angela was her best friend yet amanda didn’t mention that she was sick. it took him a while to figure it out, but when he got up to put the flowers on the dining room table he finally understood. the flower in the middle was jagged and had red soaking a few petals.

when he sees this, he goes back to find the note that amanda handed him, which now makes so much more sense.  somewhere in the entryway of their apartment there is a note laying on the floor.

dear h,

take care of our girl for me...
