Chapter 1: Arms Tonite
Chapter Text
“Parent’s Day”, was written in the center of the classroom. Her homeroom teacher, Ms. Fauna was leaning next to the board smiling fondly as her students filed out of the classroom. Red quickly moved out heading straight for her locker. It’s been a whole semester since her and Chloe saved the school. Everything seemed to be the same, nothing has happened since then at least. It’s been so long since the Time Travel mission, yet Red was always paranoid one day she’d wake up and she’d be ruling next to her mom.
The Queen of Hearts in this timeline seemed to be very fond of her daughter, always sending letters by card. Each one of them Red received, whether or not she wanted them, they’d always arrive in the most interesting manner. Some would arrive as just a simple playing card, and of course because it was a Wonderland card, they would verbalize said letters. As of recently however, the cards would transform into her mother’s footmen or provide a show to recite to the young princess her mother’s message.
The hallways were mostly empty since all the classes for the day ended. Since Red was technically a transfer student, her locker was placed closer to Principal Uma’s office for ‘Easy access to someone who will always be there for her.’ Red didn’t mind the proximity, if anything, it was more of an advantage, her locker was placed between the dorms and the gym lockers allowing her to be able to walk Chloe to her Swords and Shields practice. Her friend was nowhere to be found though, since she stormed off right after the announcement of Parent’s Day.
As Red approached her locker, she saw a small playing card taped to the front. She knew it was another letter, but quickly ignored it. This was the fourth letter today and Red was still uneasy about her mother’s newfound affection. Red was not used to this side of her mother, she usually refused to come home during winter break just to avoid her. Now she had no chance in avoiding her anymore, Parent’s Day was fast approaching and would be held at the end of the week.
“Maybe I can fake being sick.” she muttered to herself as she finally moved to open her locker.
“Or maybe you could stick with my family to avoid small talk.” Red slightly flinched at the sudden voice until she turned to see who responded to her idea. Her blue-headed roommate was smiling at her.
“Dammit Chlo, don’t sneak up on me like that.” Red huffed out, turning back to put down her books. Chloe, flustered at the little nickname, the red-head had given her was thankfully covered by her locker door
“ Sorry,” She whispered out, you could almost hear the small giggle she let out as she apologized.
“ I saw you speed walking down the hall after the Parent’s Day announcement and wanted to talk about plans for the event.”
Red closed her locker to face the princess and furrowed her brows. The thing with Chloe is that she is always excited about something, always planning something, always doing something, just so energetic. She was so different from Red, but that’s what Red liked about her. Red probably wouldn’t have gone to half of the events that were held at school if it wasn’t for her blue-headed roommate.
Chloe was also so amiable and was the first person to believe in her. When they went back in time, Chloe told Red that she believed she was a good person. Red had held onto that statement and would lean on it like a crutch when her conscience ever faltered. But she would never admit that to Chloe.
“Plans? What is there to plan?” Staring down at her roommate with an amused look on her face.
“Well– the Swords and Shields team is competing that morning, and I was hoping-” Chloe was cut off by Red.
“I’d love to.” Red spilled out. Clearly filled with enthusiasm. Red smiled to herself thinking; Love? Gods, that was a bit much. As she fought not to cringe at her own statement Chloe was beaming with joy.
“I’m glad to hear you’ll be there. It means a lot to me, Red.” she stated as she was pulling her into a small hug. Red hated physical touch, but let it be since it was Chloe after all.
“Anyways, I’ll meet you at the dorm later, gotta head to practice.” Chloe then jogged off as to not be tardy to her practice. Red walked slowly towards the dorm, picking the card off of her locker so she could see what her mother wanted.
Thankfully, the card wasn’t anything crazy like the last three had been. It was a black and red Jack of Hearts Card. Each card had a meaning, if the card was a number it was probably a small message like a check-in letter or just her mother wanting to make sure she knew she loved her. If it was a card that's a part of the royal flush it meant it was important, of course, if it was a Queen of Hearts Card, she would know it was urgent. But again, thankfully it was just a Jack.
Red was a little nervous to hear the new message, but was a little excited to finally reach the comfort of her own room. Since Auradon promoted expressing individuality, they give you full control on the customization of your dorms. Red and Chloe agreed on combining their styles from the get go. Red kept her signature heart shaped bed with black and red theming with hints of gold. While Chloe’s bed on the opposite side was a simple canopy style bed with her signature blue and white with some silver trimmings. Chloe loved Red’s graffiti murals so she requested that her and Red have matching murals on either side of the room.
The center of the room had Chloe’s personal favorite decoration, a wall filled with pictures of friends and family. Chloe’s pictures mainly consisted of her and her brother, Chad. Red had mainly pictures of her old teacher, Maddox, with an occasional picture of the Queen of Hearts photo bombing the two in the background. Many people may not like dorming, but to Red, her room felt a little bit more like home.
Once she arrived at her dorm she looked down at the card and took a deep breath. Flicking the card, bringing the card to life, allowing the Jack to report his message.
“Good evening princess, the Queen would like you to know that she will be attending your school’s Parent’s Day ceremony and will arrive by sunrise to greet you. She also would hope to expect a full update on how you’ve been once she arrives. The Queen would also like to state that she loves you very much and hopes you are doing well. Have a good day princess.” With that end statement the Jack transformed back into a playing card.
Red grabbed the playing card off the floor and stared at it. Walking over to her bed, she placed the card on her nightstand. Flopping on her bed, she stared up at her ceiling.
The Queen loves you, it's so stupid, by this time, she’s received enough letters that say her mother loved her. It was becoming redundant. She’s sick thinking of it. It didn’t matter if she prayed for this kind of mom for years, it didn’t matter that she would cry at night hoping her mom would wake up and change her mind about her. It never happened, until now. It left an uncomfortable ache in her chest. Knowing how long she waited, how much she craved her mothers kindness. It’s hard accepting she has it now, it’s even harder to realize no one will remember how it used to be. Even if she confided in her old teacher, Maddox, he wouldn’t even know what she’s talking about, and possibly even ask if she was going mad. It was a lot to process, and she had to do it quickly. If she reacted this way every time she heard her mother say she loves her, she wouldn’t last a minute on Parent’s Day, let alone summer break.
“Oh gods Parent’s Day,” Red didn't know how to even start to process what’s about to unfold. She hasn’t seen her mother since orientation. Maybe that was a good thing, but thinking about it now, seeing her mom might be a lot for her, even if it’s just for a few hours. The realization was hitting her hard, harder than what she could handle. Panicking she looked around, the walls were becoming red and closing in. Something weirdly familiar was crushing Red from the inside out. She sat up quickly realizing it felt like she was losing air. Grasping at her chest she tried focusing on breathing as her vision blurred, she hoped for any kind of miracle that this would stop. She tucked her knees in and hugged her legs as tight as she could, making herself as small as possible to stop the world spinning.
Time went by, but Red couldn’t keep track of when and where she was at. Memories and present events were all blending together in her head leaving her in a motionless state. She didn’t realize what was going on until she felt something holding her. An aggressive halt to her thoughts was caused by a soft sensation wrapped around her wrists. For the first time in a while, or however long she’s been stuck like this, Red was actually able to feel herself breathing. It was almost like whiplash realizing she wasn’t stuck in whatever twisted time capsule she was confined in.
It took a few minutes for her to realize that she’s been crying. She blinked hard to bat away the leftover tears from whatever just happened. Focusing on the feeling of whatever held her was slowly but surely grounding her. The more she slowed down the more she realized that she was gripping really aggressively onto her legs. A few shaky breaths and she released herself from her own clutches. At the same time the feeling that was wrapping around her wrists were loosening up too, but were very quickly replaced with slow circles on her back.
It took a bit of time, but Red eventually relaxed her body, allowing her to slowly unfold herself from her original position. Still shaky, she opens her eyes to find that her roommate was staring right at her. Her friend’s face was scrunched up with an extremely worried expression cemented onto her face. Chloe’s expression softened once she realized the taller girl was looking at her. She looked upset, sad, and something else that Red couldn’t quite decipher. Taking in the scene before her, Red let herself unravel in her roommate’s arms.
After 30 minutes of just holding her, Chloe began to hum a little tune to hopefully bring Red back to her. She didn’t want to push her to explain or force a conversation, so resorting to humming a lullaby her mother sang her as a child would be the best option. Red took a long breath and looked up at the princess knight.
“I’m sorry” she finally says.
“There is no need to apologize.” Chloe stated. Red pauses as if Chloe was taking in what she just said.
“I’m sorry you had to see that…”
“Never apologize for being vulnerable with me, I love all of you, even this side of you. I want you to be able to lean on me. I want you to know I care so much about you and that it's okay to fall apart sometimes.” Chloe whispered like it was a secret between the two girls. Love was a strong word, and Chloe seemed very confident in what she had just said to the red-head.
Red stared in awe at the statement, almost like she had just heard Chloe say she killed someone. Chloe looked back at her, seeing the gears slowly turn in Red’s head. Chloe held onto those words for a while, and never knew how to tell Red how much she cared, but now seemed like the right time. It wasn’t the confession Chloe wanted to give, but it’s the one Red needed.
Red hugged Chloe. Red hates physical touch, so this was something. Something Chloe could have never predicted, something she wanted to freeze and stay that way forever.
“Thank you.” Red seemed to get out, muffled by the fact that her face was buried in Chloe’s shoulder.
After a while Red finally broke the contact and leaned back to stare at Chloe. Red had a small smirk forming, causing Chloe to look confused at the girl’s expression.
“So you love me, princess?” Red said it like it was a challenge. Chloe rolled her eyes and giggled, leaning forward she whispered in her ear.
“Oh, more than you could ever know Red.” leaning back she turned away to hide her slight blush forming, hoping Red wouldn’t see how flustered she was after realizing what she said.
Red was almost as bright as her namesake, causing her to turn away as well, but that didn’t stop her from noticing the small blush forming on her roommate’s face.
“Anyways-” Chloe blurted.
“Do you wanna just watch a movie tonight to destress? I know this was a lot for you and I think you need to rest, and though I normally push you to do homework I don’t want to-”
“You're rambling princess. But yes, I’d love that.” Red was amused by the girl’s nervousness, but was appreciative of the girl’s concern for her wellbeing.
Chloe relaxed at Red’s statement, nodding to show she understood. Chloe shifted to move off of Red’s bed to head to her own, but was stopped by someone holding her hand. Looking down, Chloe bit her tongue so that her blush wouldn’t form. She slowly looked back up at Red to figure out what she wanted.
“I know this isn’t like me but, could you,” She paused. “–be next to me, like lay here with me this time. You make me feel better to be honest.” Red trailed off. That last part was a little hard for Chloe to hear but she understood right away. Leaning back into the bed Chloe opened her arms to signal for Red to come closer. Red quickly complied to the silent request and made her way to the blue headed girl. Red rested her head on her chest and wrapped her arms around Chloe’s waist. Opening her laptop, Red put on a movie then allowed herself to soak in the feeling of the blue girl’s arms around her. Focusing on her friend’s heart rate allowed her to slowly drift off to sleep.
“Thanks Chlo… for always helping me.” Red said sleepily.
“Anytime Red.” Chloe whispered to the girl. She smiled looking down at the sleepy girl taking in her features.
Chole began thinking to herself as she watched the rise and fall of Red’s chest. She went through a lot today… I- she needed this. Chloe thought. She sighed, pulling the sleeping girl closer to her. With the mix of warmth coming from Red and the lulling sound of the A/C, she felt herself being pulled into slumber. No one deserves this. Maybe I can take a little edge off by being the best friend I can be. Was the last thing Chloe thought of before allowing sleep to fully take over.
Chapter Text
Chloe woke up looking for her friend . It took her a bit to realize what she was missing, forcing herself to wake up, she sat up to survey her surroundings. I’m still in her bed, she thought. She looked around to see any sign of her roommate. As if on cue, Red stepped out of the bathroom, clearly showing that she woke up early to take a shower.
“How are you feeling?” Chloe asked, her words a bit slurred since she was still waking up.
“I’m good now, thanks to you.” Red smiled as she walked over to Chloe.
“I was thinking-” Red paused, going over to her thinking about what she was about to say, “We go out tonight, watch the sunset, I don't know anything, just go out to like, take a breather from-” Red motions, “y’know, all of this.” Red stared intently as she waited for Chloe’s reponse. Chloe on the other hand, was quite amused with her roommate's proposal albeit a bit shocked as well.
“Princess Red of Hearts, you want to go out with me? You want to hang out, in the outside world?” Chloe spits out sarcastically. She grins at Red when she realizes Red was a little shy to respond. Red notices this and furrows her brows.
“Do you want to go out or not, Chlo.” Red grumbles out, as she fidgets with the side of her shirt.
“Lemme think about it, since I'm such a busy person, maybe I can see if I could fit ya in my schedule today-” Chloe muses, noticing Red’s irritated face.
“Chloe! Stop messing with me.” Red blurted out frustrated. Chloe giggled at the girl’s reaction and shifted her weight off the bed to walk towards her friend. Grabbing the hand that Red was using to fidget with her shirt, she stared into Red’s eyes.
“I’d be charmed to be able to spend time with you.” As Chloe kissed Red’s hand that she was holding. Red was shocked by the display of affection, but was definitely not repulsed by it. Using her other hand, Red covered her face to hide the flustered look that was obviously forming. Damn, why does she always make me feel like this , Red thought as she looked away to help diminish the already existing blush streaked across her face.
Chloe was lucky enough to see that Red was trying to hide her reaction to the gesture. She wished she could relish in the sight but had to do the same since her own actions made her blush. Why did I just do that? Chloe anxiously said in her head. Slowly she dropped Red’s hand and walked backwards to lean on her own bed.
“What time?” Chloe asked as she cleared her throat. Red had to whip herself back to reality to even think of responding to her. Taking a deep breath to get her bearings Red stated;
“You have practice today, right? Let’s go two hours after so that you can shower and stuff and I can prep for tonight.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Chloe responded as she got up to head to her dresser to grab her outfit for the day.
***
In her Chemythstry class, Chloe was off daydreaming about a certain red-head. Chloe was an extremely good student, she didn’t really need to pay attention to this class, and she didn’t think she would be able to after what Red asked her this morning. What was she planning? Was the main question plaguing Chloe’s mind that morning. The young Charming was also replaying the flirtatious interaction with her roommate from that morning. What if she was uncomfortable, what if she doesn’t feel the same way, what if she’s not even into girls?!? The constant reminder of what she said was haunting her throughout all her classes, causing her to have empty pages in her normally overfilled notebooks.
Red didn’t walk Chloe to her practice like she normally did, in fact, Red actually went the opposite way of her own locker and the gym. Chloe concluded it had something to do with tonight so she tried to ignore the slight ache in her chest that she had when she was looking for her as she passed her locker.
Chloe was staring at her phone blankly when her brother’s contact popped up, indicating an incoming call..
“Hey blueberry, whatcha up too?” Chloe laughed at the nickname before responding.
“I’m alright,”Chloe’s voice was uncharacteristically monotone when she answered , “what’s up?” Chloe grimaced at her response hoping it wasn’t obvious she was slightly frustrated with something.
“I was gonna ask about Parent’s Day but now I’m interested in the weird tone shift blue-” Chad responded in a slightly joking tone.
“Nothing just someone I-” Chloe got cut off by a frantic Chad.
“It’s about a boy I knew it! Chloe I know that you know that I know that you could beat that boy up easily but if ya need the help of your big, strong and super manly bro, I will be there within the hour.” Chad said proudly. Chloe only laughed at her brother. He knew her too well but his ‘I’m a manly guy’ antics were always too amusing to even focus on the subject at hand. It was especially funny that Chad would offer to help since Chloe was always known as the better fighter since they were little. After calming down Chloe responded.
“No Chad, it’s not a boy-” Chloe stuttered before finishing, “it’s about a girl.” Chloe paused nervously to hear her older brother’s response.
“Chloe, what are ya worried about, you’re very pretty and super nice y’know, so no need to be jealous of some girl.” You can hear Chad’s smile through the phone, almost like he was patting himself on the back for that monologue. Chloe raised her eyebrow, I don’t think he got it, maybe he forgot.
“Okay, n-no, Chad I have a crush on a girl. ” Chloe knew Chad was sometimes a bit slow but she could have sworn Chad knew she liked girls.
“Wait, really? Since when did this happen? Wait since when do you- wait-” Chad’s stutter slowed to a stop. You could tell the poor boy was really thinking hard because Chloe has never had such a long pause in a conversation with her brother before.
“Okay, this is a new development but that doesn’t matter, what’s up with this girl, and why is it stressing you out? I know I’m not an expert like mom and dad are at the whole love thing but I can do the best I can.” Chloe only smiled at the response. You could hear how genuine Chad was being and how much he wanted to help her even if he didn’t understand at first.
“Thanks, uh- I think I just need advice? Or, a fresh perspective I guess? Basically I really like this girl but I don’t know if she likes me or if she’s even into girls. We’re super close but I’m worried that liking her might overwhelm her.” Chloe said nervously. After a bit of time and thought Chad mustered up all of his older brotherly knowledge about relationships to help aid his little sister.
“ Well, if I were you, I’d take it slowly. Is she comfortable around you?” Chad questioned.
“Yes, I’d think so.” Chloe responded shyly.
“Okay that’s good, so why worry now? I mean have you asked her out or something?” Chad responded interested in what his sister could say.
“I mean, she asked to hang out tonight and she’s super introverted, like I never see her go out unless I ask her to come with.” Chloe answered Chad firmly
“That’s good! Really good. Honestly sis, I wouldn’t stress too much, if it’s meant to be, you’ll watch it naturally fall into place.” Chad was gentle with this remark to make sure his little sister knew that it would all be okay. Chloe on the other hand was almost taken aback at the statement and took a moment to respond.
“Thanks Chad, that honestly was exactly what I needed to hear. It also makes me feel a lot better about going with her tonight.” Chloe responded happily.
“Of course, what are brothers for? Also could I ask one more question?” Chad said slightly seriously.
“You have the floor bro.” Chloe responded interested in what he was going to say. Chad took a few moments before he asked.
“Is the girl, Red? Like your best friend Red?” Chad said timidly. Chloe blushed at the question.
“How did- How- How did you know?!?” Chloe was so surprised by the question she couldn’t help stuttering out her words. Chad was the one laughing this time. Making Chloe more and more flustered by the second.
“Blue- You don’t think I’d notice how ya looked at your best friend since like forever? Like even before you lived together you looked at her like how dad looks at mom.” Chad was giggling by the end of this statement. Chloe was so confused at this point. ‘Before we moved in?’ We didn't know each other before orientation. How would Chad know this? He’s never even met Red. Chloe was busy organizing her thoughts when she realized, Oh right- Time Travel Mission we probably met earlier since mom and Bridget used to be friends.
“Chloe, look sis, I’m happy you finally figured out your feelings, Red is a pretty nice gal, so I wish you good luck today but I really got to go, and I know you gotta go too. If ya need anything call me when ya need. If anything, I expect a full update on Parent's Day, okay?” Chad said sternly.
“Yeah yeah okay. I’ll try to update you, but I’ll see you soon. Thanks again Chad.” Chloe said looking down at her phone.
“Anytime blue, see ya later.” Chad ended the call and Chloe was left thinking about her brother’s advice while sitting in the locker room.
***
Practice was rough but Chloe was quick to sprint back to her dorm to shower. On her way to their bathroom, Red joked with Chloe.
“Were you that excited to see me, Charming?” Red’s face was smug, noticing Chloe’s frantic nature. Chloe had no time to even argue so she resorted to turning to the red-head and stuck out her tongue in a mocking manner.
Cute . Red thought. Red laid down on her bed and opened up her phone to mindlessly scroll as she waited for Chloe to get out of the shower.
Red wasn’t dawning her usual attire, opting for a slightly more formal look. Her hair was put into two little space buns with her hair slightly wavy. Scrolling, she caught a glimpse of a post one of the Red Aces posted of her mom. Red had to admit, even in the new pictures of her mom, she looked happier. Her hardened features in her past life were replaced with soft curves. Even her mother’s color palette was slightly different. The usual dark blood red designs on her mother’s dress were replaced with light reds, even some parts were a nice shade of pink with white accents. It was hard to accept this new mom, but maybe one day she’ll accept this new reality.
After a few more minutes of scrolling, Chloe finally emerged from the bathroom. Sporting a white long skirt and blue blouse with white flats to match, Red couldn’t help but stare. The first thing she noticed was Chloe’s hair, two little braids were surrounding the top of her head almost like a crown. Her blue curls were resting on her shoulders, dancing around whenever she moved. She was breathtaking to say the least, and Red was definitely the victim.
Chloe was finally able to take in Red’s appearance as well. Her friend’s straight cut black dress pants made the red-head somehow look even taller. The blouse sat perfectly square on her torso, a corset was holding the top all together, with a small black neck tie littered with little red hearts. The dress shoes also had a small gold trimming that had her signature heart. Red looked amazing, and Chloe was fighting the small blush forming on her cheeks at the sight of her.
“Ready to go, Chlo?” Red finally broke the silence reaching out her hand.
“Yes, let’s go,” Chloe smiled, taking her roommate’s hand.
“Okay, follow me, I have everything ready.” Red gently stated while grabbing a basket on the way.
***
“Red, where are you taking me?” Chloe asked while looking around at their surroundings. Red was leading the blue-haired girl through a small path in the Enchanted Woods by the school. It’s so beautiful out here , Chloe thought. Maybe I should go here more often . She decided.
“We’re nearly there, just a bit more and-” Red stopped walking, “Oh–uh wait, I need you to close your eyes.” Red said, turning to look at the shorter girl.
“Seriously? Okay.” Chloe was curious as to why but decided to just trust the girl. Red grabbed the girl’s hand and led her a few more steps then stopped.
“Okay, open.” Red said excitedly.
Chloe listened, blinking hard to refocus her vision as she looked around. They were at a clearing looking over the Enchanted Lake. The hills surrounding the lake were framing the view just right, it was clear the spot was chosen to view the sunset. At the edge of the lake there was a dip in the surrounding valley, where the sun would be framed perfectly. It was as if the area was made specifically for watching the sunset. It was incredible, the view, and the person she’s there with she added on in her head.
“Red, how did you find this place? It's absolutely beautiful.” Chloe said, looking her friend in the eyes. Red wanted to respond but she was distracted by the look Chloe gave her, making Red feel like Chloe wasn’t just talking about the view.
“I- It’s something I discovered during winter break. I’ve been wanting to take you here for a while, and today seemed too perfect of a chance to not do so.” That wasn’t the only reason Red brought her today though.
“After last night, I wanted to thank you, for y’know. That. But I also did want to use this to spend time with my favorite person.” Red stuttered the last part out, quickly looking down to hide how red her cheeks were becoming.
Chloe hung onto that statement for a second, her favorite person. Trying to find the words to say.
“You’re my favorite too.” Chloe settled with that, letting the blush form across her face.
Red and her stayed like that for a bit, admiring the other. Red didn't want to break the spell cast between the two, but decided to finally sit down on the blanket she set up for them. Taking the basket she brought, Red opened it and started taking out its contents as Chloe stood there waiting for her to finish.
Various little foods were displayed and sprawled across the blanket. Chloe stoodd in awe looking at all the food.
“Red, did you do all of this?” Chloe asked still in a bit of shock.
“Most of it, yeah, but the cakes were my mom. I sent the letter back telling her what I was planning today and in response she sent a Jack to deliver a few desserts.” Red responded in an amused tone.
“You talked to your mom?” Chloe asked, a little shocked.
“Yeah, I have to start facing the fact that she’s actually a good mom now. I mean, I can’t- shouldn't, avoid her.”Red said seriously. Chloe contemplated her response.
“I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks princess. But let’s not worry about her and I now, let’s just enjoy this.” Red said while handing a small scone to Chloe.
Chloe nodded in agreement as she sat down next to her, admiring the view. Which view Chloe was admiring could be debated though.
The two girls sat there watching the sunset admiring the small valley’s natural beauty for a while. Talking about their day and how classes were, just talking about everything and anything. Chloe and Red could stay like that for hours, and so they did.
“Oh, I thought I’d mention that I talked to Chad today.” Chloe stated before grabbing another cookie.
“Really? How’d that go?” Red grinned while asking.
“He mentioned something weird, I guess we’ve been friends for like forever in this timeline.” Chloe responded while taking a bite from the cookie.
“Interesting. Well that works out right? I mean even if we’ve only known each other for a few months now it feels like forever.” Red says.
“Yeah, it also works out for Parent’s Day, I mean, it would make sense if both of us are together the whole day.” Chloe responded absentmindedly. Red’s body language slightly stiffened at the mention of Parent’s Day but uttered out a response anyways.
“Yeah, Parent’s Day.” Chloe noticed the shift in tone and reached for Red’s hand. Holding it in her own to comfort her friend.
“Sorry I shouldn’t have mentioned-”
“No, no, it’s alright. I feel better now that I know that you’ll be there.” Red cut her off before she could say anything else. She looked up at Chloe, still holding her hand. There was something about their interactions lately that have been, in a sense, magical . It was hard to ignore the feelings growing, especially when you have constant butterflies fluttering around in your stomach. Red’s heart ached, yearned for her even, it was difficult being around her. She always felt this way, but she never understood how to handle it, or if she should even acknowledge it. Why was she just so enchanting? Red asked herself.
Chloe was no better at the moment. She was fighting herself from looking down at Red’s lips. Don’t look, I don’t wanna make her uncomfortable.
Without knowing it, both were leaning in closer. They were closer than they have ever been before. It was like the two were possessed by something, neither knowing exactly what they were doing. As if to break the spell, the sun began to set. The glow from the bright light took the two girls out of their trance to turn and look at the view.
‘ What was that?!’
‘What was that?!’
The girls said in their heads in unison. They pulled away to hide the blushes forming on both of their faces. After they got their bearings, they turned towards the edge of the lake. The view was gorgeous, there was no doubt about that, but the girls were wishing they could admire the other view before them.
***
After the sun had set, the girls headed back to their dorm hand in hand, platonically of course. As they approached their room Chloe broke the silence.
“You look amazing by the way. It just occurred to me that I never mentioned it.”
“You’re beautiful.” Red blurted out. Registering what she said, Red kept her eyes forward instead of looking at the shorter princess.
“Thank you. I- Thank you for today.” Chloe answered shyly
“Don’t mention it princess. Let’s do this again, it was fun.” Red answered gently.
“Yeah, let’s definitely do this again.” Chloe says.
They both reach their dorm and let go of the other. Both heading to their respective sides of their room to grab their sleepwear. Both went to carry out their usual nighttime ritual on their own. Once they both were finishing up their routines Red turned to Chloe to ask her something.
“Do you wanna watch a movie like we did last night?”
“You mean watch something and cuddle till we fall asleep?” Chloe asked teasingly. Red nodded shyly hoping to get an answer to her request. Chloe saw her body language change and turned to grab her hand to lead her over to the red-head's bed. Red and her fell into the heart-shaped bed slowly presuming the same positions they were in the night before. Like the previous night, Red opened her laptop and turned on a background movie to entertain the two as they slowly drift to sleep. This time Chloe fell asleep first, allowing Red to admire her friend. She lay her head on the blue-haired girl’s chest allowing herself to slowly drift to sleep to the comforting sound of Chloe’s heartbeat.

‘ Look into the mirror, this is what I see, you ruling right next to me’
“No. I don’t-” Red cried out.
She wasn’t sure where she was but she could only hear a menacingly familiar voice ringing in her ears. Red was in a dark room, with the Looking Glass being the only thing she can see. Plastered on its reflection was Red herself, but something was off. Her hair was pin straight, her outfit was darker, and everything about her demeanor was downright intimidating.
‘You will listen now and listen closely. You will end up exactly like me. You will become this no matter what you may do or say. You will always be my daughter.’
“Fuck this-” Red scoffed trying to run th opposite direction. That’s when she saw it.
‘You can’t avoid this fact. You will always hurt who you love, you can’t run Red. It’s meant to be.’ The voice was ominous and laughed as it faded away. Displayed right in the center was a sword. No doubt belonging to the Charming girl herself. Upon inspecting it, Red realized there was blood on the hilt. Then in the distance there she was. Chloe herself lay on the floor unmoving. Red tried running up to her.
“Chloe!” Drenched in sweat, Red woke up in the duo’s dorm. Sitting up she looked around, Chloe was nowhere to be found. Grabbing her phone, Red checked for messages.
Chloe
7:30 am
Went on a run… didn’t want to wake you :)
After seeing the text Red let out a sigh of relief.
8:21
U r insane
8:21
Well good morning to you too
Red giggled at the clearly sarcastic response from the girl then laid back down on her bed. Classes don’t start until ten that day so she decided to look at her phone for a bit. Nothing interesting popped up on her feed for a while so she decided to just start getting ready for the day.
As she got ready, Red couldn’t shake off the dream- nightmare she had last night. The voice was definitely her mother’s but why she was having it now was worrying her.
Thinking it over, she realized it was probably because of how close she’s gotten to Chloe. Oh Chloe. Red was surprised by how much room the charming girl had taken up in her mind, it was almost like she.
“Oh.”
Oh.
Red blushed at the realization. She likes Chloe. A lot more than she realized. Thinking over the events that took place the other night, Red realized that the picnic the two went on, could have been chalked up to be a date. It might as well have been. Red remembered the moment where both of them were so close together they practically could have-
“Fuck-” Red groaned. She would have kissed her if she wasn’t so stupid.
“Who cares about the sunset anyway? Why didn’t I-”
“Why didn’t you do what?” Chloe had walked in mid-tangent and was approaching the red-head with an accusatory stare.
Red jumped at the realization that her roommate had come back from her run and tried her best to calm her nerves. Chloe seemed to have noticed Red’s skittish demeanor as she approached her.
“You okay?” She asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, I was just talking about how I should have taken a shower already.” Red sputtered out trying to act like nothing was wrong.
“Whatever you say.” Chloe then went to the other side to grab her clothes to prepare for the day.
Get it together Red. Red face-palmed silently as she slid off of her bed to go get ready herself.
***
Red was doodling on the margins of her notebook when Ms. Fauna started talking about preparations for Parent’s Day. She was drawing Chloe’s sword on the margins with a heart around it. Crap, why didn’t I realize I liked her before.
Flashes of last night’s nightmare crossed her mind. It was hard not to think about what ‘dream mom’ said. Would she really hurt Chloe? No. Nothing could hurt Chloe. Red cringed at the thought, remembering what actually happened on orientation. She was the one who sentenced her mom, she was the reason they were forced to go back in time in the first place. If it wasn’t for her, Chloe’s mom could have lived in that timeline. Stop, we fixed it.
Red tried shaking the anxieties spilling out of her mind away. A heavy burden felt like it just rested itself onto Red’s shoulders right at that moment. Going through every possible scenario where Chloe would get hurt was invading her mind like the plague. She was spiraling again, not as bad as before but enough for her to not hear the bell ring. It wasn’t until Chloe herself approached Red that she realized class was over.
“Hey you okay Red?” Chloe rested her hand on Red’s shoulder to force the girl to pay attention.
“Mm? Yeah, Yeah I’m good” Red stared up at her slowly. Gods she’s gorgeous.
“Oooh, did you draw something new in class?” Chloe was excited and giddily tried looking over at the notebook.
With a quick slam, Red closed her notebook to hide the little doodles sprawled across the margins.
“Nope! Nothing interesting.” She weakly smiled at her roommate to try to hide her embarrassment. Chloe stared at her with a concerned look on her face.
“You’ve been acting weird today, Red.” Chloe actually seems concerned this time. Red felt a little guilty lying to her but decided to ignore it.
“I’m alright Chlo. Let’s head to the field?” Trying to distract the shorter girl from noticing her previous behavior. Though Chloe was still a little suspicious, she decided to go along with her.
Chloe nodded, reaching out her hand to Red. Packing up her things, Red quickly got up to walk the girl to her practice area.
On the way there, Red was still stuck in her thoughts, going over what she could do to hurt Chloe. Could I really turn out like her? No, that queen doesn’t exist anymore, but what if I do? What if Chloe was wrong all along, what if I’ll always be a bad person? What if-
“Hello? Earth to Red?” Chloe was waving her hand in front of Red to hopefully grab her attention. Red shook her head looking at the girl.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You’ve been spacing out on me a lot.” Chloe said, turning towards her friend.
“Yeah, sorry about that I was just thinking.” Red’s voice slightly faded into a whisper saying this.
“It’s okay, I'm just worried about you. I was just trying to tell you that we’re here.” Chloe started releasing her grip from Red’s hand.
“What?” After observing their surroundings, Red realized quickly that Chloe was right. They were already at the doors to the Sword and Shields room.
“Oh-”
“Oh, that's right. Are you sure you’re okay? I can skip today.” Chloe held onto Red’s hands to show she meant it.
She’s too nice.
“ No I’m okay, I swear.” She paused to clear her head and put her focus on the girl in front of her. “Anyways, Go beat all their asses in there.” Red had a smug look on her face when she stated that last part. Chloe smiled at the taller girl as she leaned down to kiss Red’s right hand.
“I must forbid thee goodbye to you, your majesty. I shan’t see you for the next hour. But don’t worry thine beautiful self. For I shall be back when the clock strikes six.” She winked at Red as she walked away.
“Dork!” Red yells as she watches Chloe walk away.
“Bye Red!” Chloe giggles to herself as she enters the practice room.
Red watched the door close before turning back to walk to her locker. She laughed to herself thinking about how Chloe kissed her hand like the old knights do. She’s such a nerd, it’s cute.
She finished up putting her stuff back in her locker when she thought about what Chloe said. She has been spacing out a lot today and it’s all because of a stupid nightmare. She closed her locker door leaning her forehead against the cold metal. Sometimes I think I should talk to someone about this. Looking up she stared down principal Uma’s office door, thinking about what principal Uma said at the start of the year. Red walked up to the door and knocked– waiting for an answer.
“Come in.” A muffled voice responded. Red walks in noticing Uma putting down a large stack of papers onto her desk.
“Hey kid, you doin’ okay?” Uma starts the conversation hoping to let the red-head feel free to speak.
“Yeah, well, not really to be honest.” Red hesitates before sitting in the chair in front of the desk.
“Shoot.” Uma says in response.
“Do you ever think about your mom?” Red starts.
“Mm in a way, why ask?” Intrigued by the princess’s question, Uma straightens her posture .
“Like, do you still think about the stuff she taught you?” Red asks.
“Kid you have to work with me here, I need to understand what you mean exactly.” Uma started to become concerned for the young royal.
“I mean, do you ever think about stuff she’s said, like does it affect your decisions or haunt you in a sense?” Red wasn’t sure what she was asking to be completely honest, but she needed someone to understand.
After asking, Uma stared at the girl for a bit. It was as if she was searching for something on the red-head. Looking her up and down once more, Uma seemed to have found what she was looking for.
“Did your mother say something to you?” Uma looked worried now.
“No, not here at least.” Red responded shyly.
“Not- at home?” Uma’s posture stiffened at the possible realization that Red could be hurt at home.
Realizing her mistake, Red paused. Why did I come in here? No one knows what my mom used to be like, no one would get it. No, I need to talk to someone.
“What do you know about time travel?” Red’s demeanor was different, a bit more serious than before. Uma on the other hand was more confused than ever. Thrown back by the change in topic but decided to play along anyways.
“Mal mentioned it once or twice, but nothing more than that. Why?” She stared at Red a bit more to inspect the girl’s reaction, but she didn’t seem to budge.
“Can you promise me you’ll take what I say right now seriously?” Red sounded a little anxious again but her request was genuine.
“Yeah of course, I’m all ears.” Uma sat back as Red explained how Chloe and her changed the past to save Auradon. How The Queen of Hearts used to be evil and how she hurt people before Chloe and her did anything. When the summary of their time-adventure concluded, Red pulled out the pocket watch that started this whole thing and placed it on the table for Uma to inspect herself. After inspecting it Uma looked at Red to finish her story.
“Well after all that, everyone including my mom forgot how it used to be, and now I’m stuck with these memories of someone who doesn’t exist anymore. I just- I wanted to be able to talk to someone who could understand what it’s like to live in that kind of environment.” Uma stared at Red with a sad expression on her face. Pausing before she spoke, she thought over everything Red had said, soaking it all in.
“This is- a lot Red.” She starts.
“I know-” Red laughs to herself at the irony of it all.
“I will say though, I get it. I luckily had the other VKs here when I attended, and I think they helped me a lot. Maybe I could be that for you Red.” Uma pauses, smiling fondly at the photo on her desk of the VKs.
“Know though, that it’ll take time to move forward from how you grew up. Your mom is different now, maybe that’s a good thing. Try replacing the old with the new. Over time you’ll learn to love the new life you’ve got.”
Red takes everything Uma said in. Taking a moment to reflect on what she said, Red thinks about Chloe, and how she could be one of those new memories to replace the old. Smiling like an idiot, Red looks back up at Uma.
“Yeah, I’ll try. I think I know where to start.” Red beams at the principal. Uma relaxes seeing that the girl’s demeanor also changed.
“Thank you principal Uma.”
“Don’t mention it, and if you’re gonna talk to me about VK stuff, feel free to just call me Uma, no need for the formalities.” Uma waves off the name to show extra effect.
“Thank you, Uma.”
“Oh- also before you go, technically I’m gonna need to confiscate the pocket watch.” pointing at the pocket watch Uma makes a ‘hand it over’ gesture with her hands.
“Oh, right, I should have figured.” Red reluctantly hands over the time machine and stands awkwardly at the other side of the desk.
“Don’t worry it’ll be safe, it’s just that students aren't allowed to have magical objects as powerful as this.”
“I get it I guess.” Red sounds a little sad over the loss of her gift from Maddox being confiscated but it makes sense. If someone can change the past for good, who knows what else you could do.
“Don’t worry kid, I’ll give it back to you your senior year.”
Red smiles at this, At least it's not gone forever. Headed to the office door, Red smiles to herself, I am so telling Chloe what happened here.
“Now go on a date with your girlfriend or whatever, y'all deserve it after what you just told me.” Red freezes at this statement. Girlfriend? Slowly turning around she faces the principal again
“Girlfriend?” She tilts her head looking confused at the principal.
“Did I say something wrong? I thought you and the Charming girl were together?” Uma asks.
“I mean. No? I like her and she means a lot to me but we’re not together.” That statement hurt Red to say but it was true. The more she thought it over though, Chloe did a lot for her. This conversation wouldn’t have happened if she wasn’t so worried for the girl in the first place. Grimacing at her own words, Red started to head to the exit.
“Oh- Well ya had me fooled then. Have fun with your friend I guess.” Uma turns back to her work once Red gets to the office door.
“Right, my friend-” Red smiles at this as she walks away.
***
Red was sitting at her desk doing her homework when Chloe came back from practice. Chloe was about to talk to Red when she realized she was preoccupied. Chloe seized the opportunity to take a quick shower before approaching her roommate.
Once she finished up her shower, Red was doodling at her desk. Chloe hugged the taller girl from behind, hoping she wouldn’t scare the artist too much.
“Chlo? When the fuck did you get back?!” Red is still pretty surprised.
“Language girl.” Chloe laughs out.
“Ha Ha, so funny.” The clearly sarcastic tone rolling out the red-head’s mouth. Chloe laughs at this while sticking a tongue out at the girl.
“Anyways I got back a while ago but that’s besides the point, how are you?”
Red pauses before admitting what she did after dropping Chloe off at practice.
“Talked to principal Uma about my mom.” Chloe stares at Red, Taking in what she just said.
“That’s good. How did it go?”
“Good, I told her about us and how we changed the timeline.” Red said nonchalantly.
“Us? What about us?” Chloe teased, amused with what she could say.
“Yeah, about how you helped me through a lot and that you’re the only person who knows what happened.” Red turns her chair to look at the Charming now.
“Sounds like you talked very highly of me Red” half-jokingly Chloe teased the princess for her compliments.
“Of course I do, you’ve done so much for me, changed how I see myself, see the world. You mean the world to me.” Red gasped realizing what she’s admitting. Chloe stood in front of her shocked, that wasn’t what she was expecting from Red.
“I mean- No I mean it-” What was she doing? Confessing here, now? How special Red said sarcastically in her head. “You mean everything to me Chloe, and I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Red was sweating bullets now. Chloe’s appearance changed into a more serious one. Her brows furrowed together as her face flustered to a bright pink at the confession.
“And I don’t think I deserve someone like you in my life. You are so sweet and so kind that it makes me sick sometimes-” Why was she saying all of this? “I like being with you, I like holding your hand, but I really want to make sure I’m good enough for you because you deserve better and-”
She was cut off by Chloe pulling her into a tight embrace. Reaching up to hold the back of Red’s head, Chloe leaned in and kissed the taller girl. Red was surprised by this but slowly closed her eyes as she fell into the kiss. Kissing back, Red forgot what she was saying and let Chloe finish the sentence herself. After a while, Chloe broke the trance and stared up at her princess with a smile.
“Gods Red you need to learn to shut the fuck up sometimes”
“What was that about language again?” Red smirks at the shorter girl.
“Oh my Gods, shut up!” fake punching Red as she laughs at the blue-haired girl.
Picking up Red, Chloe threw Red onto the nearest bed jumping in next to her. Red turns towards the Charming and plants a small kiss onto her forehead.
“So does this mean you’ll go out with me princess?” Red smiles as she stares into the girl’s eyes.
“Yes, Oh my Gods, yes, and you call me the dork, dork.” Chloe laughs at Red as she tries to make a serious offended face.
The two girls just laid there together, cuddling and holding each other for the next hour. Taking in the moment together. Pure ecstasy, just them nothing else mattered more than just the two of them in that moment. Unlike the other nights, they fell asleep together, holding each other closer than ever before.
Notes:
Ya Like how I added the songs into the fic? Idk it was a small detail I thought was funny. Also I'm so glad I let them cuss, I just felt like Red would cuss all the time, and yes I made the confession kinda random because I feel like irl they normally are. Anyways I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thanks for reading.
Chapter Text
‘Do you hate me?’ It was hushed, almost too quiet to hear.
“ Why would I hate you?” Red was staring at a familiar void. A long hallway with a shorter figure sitting at the end of it. Whoever was there was crying, small sniffles slightly echoing as they bounced off the walls of the ominous hallway.
‘ Everyone hates me.’ Straight to the point, and now staring into Red’s eyes looking for a response from the tall girl.
“ I don’t even know who you are, so why would I hate you?” Red was slow in her response to show her sincerity in her statement.
‘ Nothing works out well y'know? Of course you know…’ The anonymous individual began to stand as they whispered their own statement. Slowly dragging their legs forward trudging towards their target.
Red slowly recognized her. It was literally her. A younger version of herself around the age of ten maybe eleven. Dawning the same space buns she always wore, with a black hoodie and red t-shirt with black pants; the girl was clearly in her old pajamas. A little kid that suffered a nightmare was staring up at her.
“You’re me.” she said plainly.
‘ I hate this.’ The little girl mumbled out.
“I know.” It felt natural. Red reached out and embraced the little girl. Holding her tight, almost like her life depended on it.
“Just trust me, you’ll be fine.”
“Just trust me, you’ll be fine.”
It was warm. Red was slowly blinking her eyes open. Taking in the scene before her, she was in her dorm in her bed. Looking down she saw Chloe holding her, one arm wrapped around Red’s waist and the other reaching up allowing Chloe’s free hand to run through her hair. Blinking away her blurred vision, Red realized it was all a dream.
She didn't realize she was crying until Chloe pulled away to look at her. Chloe kissed her on the forehead to reassure her, while taking one hand to wipe away a few more stray tears fleeing from her eyes. Chloe leaned forward and rested her forehead onto Red’s, slowly fluttering her eyes open to look at the red-head.
“Hey.”
“Hey.” Red delayed her response to take in a slow breath, grounding herself in the moment.
“Nightmare?” Chloe was gentle, as always Red thought.
“Not really.”
“You okay?” She was always so patient with Red, how could Red not melt.
“Yeah, I think this is the best I’ve been in a long time.” Chloe smiled at this and held Red closer.
“I’m glad.” Chloe embraced Red. The two girls laid there for a bit before Chloe decided to break the silence with a hesitant sigh. She started drawing small circles on Red’s back like she did a few days ago to ground her during her panic attack.
“Today will be okay. I know it’s early for you, but let’s get ready.”
“Ready for what?” Red couldn’t think clearly so early on.
“Parent’s Day.”
Red took in what she had just said. Taking in a deep breath, Red cleared her thoughts. Today will be okay.
***
Red was in the bathroom when she heard a knock at the door. Chloe was already dressed and ready for the day so she went up to answer the door.
“Hello-”
“Announcing her Royal Highness the Queen of Hearts!” Shoving Chloe out of the way while screaming his statement, the red card soldier bursted through the dorm.
“Oh geez, Spade this is a dorm please no need for the formalities.” Bridget giggled as she walked in gracefully. Dawning a puffy pink and red dress, she strutted in the room taking in the scene. Looking over she saw Chloe clearly frazzled by the sudden entrance. Bridget quickly went up to her, extending her arms out to embrace the girl.
“Chloe! Oh my how you’ve grown! Ella has been talking non-stop about you!” She was so cheery that Red couldn’t help but stare. Chloe side eyes her girlfriend almost like a silent conversation. Chloe awkwardly embraced the queen with a forced laugh.
“Oh? I hope all good things?” She sounded nervous, and Red couldn’t help but giggle at the awkward display unfolding in front of her.
“Why of course darling! Though I am glad to see you, I am excited to see my little firecracker.” Turning to Red, Bridget began to stride towards the princess. Red instinctually tensed up at the sight of the woman. Bridget didn’t seem to notice since she fully embraced the girl without hesitation.
“Oh I hope you are well, my little cherry bomb.” Red tried her best to relax but was still a little shocked. Awkwardly wrapping her arms around her mom, she finally returned the hug.
“Y-Yeah, I’m good mom.”
Bridget stepped back taking in the sight of her heir. She made eye-contact with her, smile forming as she stared into her daughter’s eyes.
“I’m glad to hear it.” An awkward silence began to form before the sound kick footsteps began to come closer.
“Hey Blueberry!” Chad sprints into the dorm picking up his little sister off the ground squeezing all the air out her body.
“Chad!” Chloe choked out. “I c-can’t breathe.” It was a desperate attempt from the smaller girl.
“Oh shit- my bad.” Chad quickly set her down and stepped back to give his sister a little space.
Bridget and Red were giggling at the sight of the siblings’ reunion. Chad turned over to see who was watching the interaction.
“Bridget!” Chad walked over to hug the older woman.
“Hello sweet boy, I’m glad to see you.” Bridget returned the hug with a soft smile.
Turning to look at Red, Chad gave a devious smile. Pulling away to the walk over to Red. Chad then embraced the princess and gave her a hug similar to the one he gave his sister.
“I c-can’t breath-” Red wheezed out strangled by the embrace.
“Okay Chad let her go” Chloe laughed out as she watched the expression of her panicked girlfriend.
“My bad.” Chad giggled out as he set down the red-head.
“It’s too early for all of this energy.” Red said sarcastically as she was trying to gain her balance.
“Aw that’s too bad, and I was just getting riled up for my little girl’s match.” Ella swiftly walked into the room with Christoper Charming in toe. Christopher laughed at his wife’s statement.
“I, as well.” Chris beam lined for his daughter embracing her as soon as he reached his target.
“Ella! It’s been too long.” Bridget walked over to her best friend, taking her hands smiling.
“Indeed it has.”
Red and Chad stood at the other end of the room taking in the scene unfolding in front of them. Red was staring at Chloe, watching the girl hug her dad taking in how similar they are. Chad was watching Red’s reaction. If people could have their eyes turn into hearts like the cartoons did, Red’s eyes would have definitely been a different shape Chad thought. Turning to her Chad decided he would tease his little sister’s crush a bit.
“Y’know if ya hurt her I’d hunt you down.” Chad said the statement a bit more seriously than he intended but it got the job done either way. Red was taken aback at the threat but then laughed to herself.
“I don’t think I’d live with myself if I did.” She responded back, still looking directly at her now girlfriend. Everyone stayed like that for a bit, letting everyone greet each other and get out their initial excitement over the reunion until the Queen’s guard interrupted.
“Your Majesties, Princess Charming’s match is due to begin within the next ten minutes.”
“Oh my gosh!” Chloe yelped as she sprinted to get her Swords and Shields bag. “Oh geez I lost track of time. I’ll see you at the stadium!” Chloe sprinted out the door to head to the match.
“Well I guess let’s head out to the stadium then.” Red giggled out. Red walked over to her mom holding out her arm to accompany her mother to the stadium. She decided that today she’d try to push past those old memories, it was one day and she thinks she can manage that.
***
Chloe’s matches went well. She won every single one of them, not to anyone’s surprise at least. Red was fighting for her life to not make it clear she was drooling over her girlfriend while she was competing. She had to hold it together since she was sitting right next to Chloe’s family after all.
As they headed back to Chloe and Red’s dorm, Chad, Ella, Bridget, and Chris all agreed to meet the girls in the main courtyard to secure a seat as Chloe gets ready for the rest of the day. Waving them off Chloe and Red quickly walked towards their shared room. Red let Chloe shower as she sat down on her bed and scrolled on her phone to pass the time. Maddox had messaged Red during the match so she finally took the time to talk to him.

Miss ya too Mads ttyl
Red smiled at her phone, she really did miss Maddox. He really was like a father to the girl. Red smiled to herself glad he’s still the same even in this timeline . She decided she’d call him at the end of the day to tell him about school, and maybe even mention her amazing girlfriend. As if on cue, Chloe stepped out of the bathroom in her usual attire. Chloe grinned as she noticed Red was staring at her.
“Miss me, Cherry Bomb?” Chloe made sure to enunciate the nickname she took in from earlier. Red was flustered by this and laughed as she approached her lover.
“Maybe…” She grinned as she leaned down to kiss her. Chloe deepened the kiss allowing herself to melt at her girlfriend’s touch.
“Holy shit!” The two girls jumped back startled by the interjection. Chad was standing at a halfway opened door smiling so wide that he could give the Cheshire cat a run for their money.
“Chad what the fuck!” Choe screamed at her brother while Red laughed at the sudden language from the usually polite princess.
“Sorry Blue but I just- Happy for ya Bluey.” Chad awkwardly delivered the sentence. “Plus I was here to tell you two the ceremony is gonna start and the door was unlocked so I just-”
“You just walk in?” Chloe was flustered and clearly embarrassed by the events that just transpired since she was tensing up. Red just laughed as she embraced the girl and kissed her on her forehead.
“Don’t give him such a hard time, let’s just go” Red pulled Chloe towards the door as she said this.
“Aww” Chad said. Chloe whipped her head towards Chad’s direction giving him a death glare.
“Chad I swear if you tell mom-”
“My lips are sealed baby Blue.” Chad made a zipper motion over his lips to prove a point. Red chuckled at the mention of the nickname as she turned to her girlfriend.
“Baby Blue?” Red raises an eyebrow as she smiles mischievously at the girl.
“Oh shut up.” Chloe marched herself out the door with Red and Chad following suit.
***
The ceremony wasn’t much. Principal Uma just gave a small speech about the school and how things have been going. She then allowed the families to explore and tour the school with their kids. Chloe and Red went around showing their families around together never leaving the other’s side while doing so. This went on for a bit, mainly it being Chloe explaining everything while Red chimed in every now and then. Every once and a while the two girls would instinctively hold hands or just be a little more physical, at this Bridget and Ella would always exchange a knowing glance while Chris and Chad overlooked the small detail.
After Chloe and Red finished up their tour of the school, they ended up back at the courtyard to look at the sunset.
The two girls separated themselves from the group to talk about the day a bit and get a moment to themselves.
“Today was better than I thought.” Red started.
“Yeah.” Chloe paused as she took Red’s hands. “How are you holding up?” Red looked down at their hands as she smiled to herself.
“Honestly, really good. It’s weird y’know? But I think I could get used to all of this. One day.” Chloe took this all in. Listening attentively to her girlfriend before she repeated her lover.
“One day.”
“Yeah one day.” Red repeated it after Chloe almost like she was processing all of this.
The two girls then stood leaning their foreheads together. On the other side of the courtyard the two queens were having their own conversation.
“They are definitely dating dear.” Bridget smiled looking at the two girls.
“I suppose our wager is over then?” Ella laughed at the sight before them.
“The deal was one year. So yes you owe me a new tea set.” Bridget giggled, turning to her friend to mock her.
“Fine, I am surprised they figured it out so quickly, my Chloe is pretty oblivious.” Ella chuckled at this statement almost like it was an inside joke for only her to understand.
“My little firecracker is too preoccupied with her little rebellious endeavors to address her feelings so I am also surprised I won.” Bridget was tearing up at the reality of it all.
“Maybe your cool perfect oldest son helped out with the two lovesick princesses.” Chad joined in with a smug look on his face. Ella turned to her son with a raised eyebrow and an amused expression plastered onto her face as she patted the boy’s back.
“Very good young Charming.” Bridget was cackling at this point and had tears running down her face from the situation.
“What did Chad do now?” Chris walked up to the group clearly confused about what had transpired. Ella and Bridget both turned towards the King and gave a mischievous smile before the two ladies burst into a laughing fit.
“What? What did I miss?” Chris was so confused at this point and had no idea what to do.
“Oh dear father. We’ll tell you another time.” Chad said, patting his dad’s back to console him.
“Gods I’m lost.”
Ella and Bridget decided to tell Chris another day. Gods knows what Chris would do if he found out his little girl was in love.
Notes:
We made it through Parent's Day Yay. I wrote in an epilogue because why not, but I'd like to write more about these two in the future, hence the Series. This fic ended up being a little cliche with their relationship but I am a sucker for simple slice of life fics. As always, Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed <3
Chapter Text
The two girls were saying their goodbyes to their families back at the dorm, Chloe with her family having one big family hug, and Red with her mom on the other side.
“You better update me next time about you and Red, my little knight.” Ella teased while pinching her daughter’s now flustered face.
“Mom- no not you too.”
“Can’t hide from me sweetie. I am very happy for you though.” Ella was very happy her daughter was dating Red, she loved the girl dearly and thinks she is perfect for her girl.
“Yeah yeah, next time I will.” Chloe tried to hide her nervous smile but to no avail.
Red and Bridget were on the other side of the dorm room embraced in a long hug. Bridget after a long pause stepped back to look at her kin.
“I am so proud of you dear. I am a lucky Heart to have you as mine.” Bridget’s face went soft at her daughter’s sad expression and pulled her in once again for a tight hug.
“I hope you know I love you very much dear. I hope you come home this time. I know I’m not the best and I may drive you mad my darling, but I hope you know I love you so dearly and can’t wait to see you grow.” Red teared up at this. She couldn’t stop it, maybe hearing all of that was everything she needed, or maybe it was the reality that her mother actually cared, either way she was overwhelmed and couldn’t help the tears streaming down her face.
“T-Thank you mom.” Red never thought she’d say that, but it felt right.
Bridget paused before pulling out a letter from her dress, from where on her dress, Red couldn’t tell you. To be honest it looked like the queen produced the letter from this air but she wouldn’t question it.
“I know I’ve sent hundreds of these little letters but I wanted to deliver this one myself. If you ever feel sad or alone or anything, feel free to read this. One day I may not be able to send my little messages anymore so I hope you could go back to this and be able to hear from me whenever you feel the need.” Red took the letter from her mom after her statement and gave her one last hug before waving goodbye.
***
After their families left, Chloe and Red got ready to get to bed. While Chloe was brushing her teeth, Red looked back at the letter from her mom she had placed on her night stand. She grabbed it, deciding to open it up.
My Dear Red,
I hope you find this letter in good spirits and that you are doing well. I thought I would write this to you as a reminder of my love for you, my firecracker. Life is sweeter when you are around my dear, anyone can see that. Know that you are everything and more than what I could have dreamed for a daughter. You are smart and kind even when you don’t realize it. I know you have your little escapades back at home, and I know what you do, I am the queen after all. I am glad to have raised a daughter who is so adamant on helping her citizens, even if it does mean stealing from the Royal Cache. (By the way you could have just asked me to use that money instead of stealing it but I appreciate the Robin Hood-like approach you decided on.) Anyways, I am so proud of the person you have become and grown to be and I cannot wait to see what type of Queen you will turn out to be. Know that I love you so much and that you are the sugar to the salt in my life and that you have given me more than I could ever want or ask for. I love you Red.
Love,
Mom
Red was full on sobbing at this. It was more than she could have wanted. Clutching on to the letter Red sobbed. Chloe quickly noticed all the commotion and sprinted to her girlfriend’s aid. After glancing over what the letter said, Chloe pulled Red into a tight embrace knowing that this is what Red needed. After her sobs died down to a sniffle, Chloe brushed the stray hairs out of her lover’s face to get a good look at her.
“You okay, love?” Concerned laced all over her face Chloe rubbed Red’s back to hopefully soothe her like it did this morning.
“Better than okay.” Red smiled as she leaned forward resting in the crook of Chloe’s neck. The two held each other for a bit before Chloe giggled.
“What?” Red groaned .
“Ha your mom wrote a little something else on the back.” Chloe adjusted so Red could read the little footnote.
P.S.
I hope next time I see you, you formally introduce me to your girlfriend. I know Chloe is a lovely girl but a mom wants to meet her baby’s lady. Plus thanks for figuring out your feelings, I got a new tea set out of it. <3
Red couldn’t help but laugh at the note her mom had left. She couldn’t help laughing at herself realizing how many people have called her out on her feelings for Chloe lately.
“Gods, were we that obvious?” Red mused teasing her girlfriend.
“ I guess so, I couldn't tell you liked me even if someone spelled it out for me.” Chloe facepalmed at this statement and just giggled leaning into her girlfriend.
“I dunno, maybe I don’t like ya princess.” Red teased
“Uh- You can’t mean that.” she scoffed.
“Of course not Chlo. I don’t know who else I could love as much as I love you.”
“I love you too.”
