Summary
When Guido Mista drew the shortest stick of the lot, he didn’t think much of it.
That’s his motto: don’t think too hard. Sure, he drew the shortest stick. Sure, he has to be the one to dress up in a mourning dress – a dress, of all things! – and wait on top of a mountainous spire until a great serpent comes to eat him up.
Except, you know, he was going to try and shoot the thing down before it got to him first, ignoring Bucciarati's strict instructions not to immediately attack.
He was the one that got sent up here as a sacrifice to keep the rest of the city from being levelled by an angry god, after all. He wasn’t just going to wait like a sitting duck for his impending doom – he was going to shoot down the supposedly apocalyptic threat and return to the city a hero.
Except, he hadn't considered whether or not the serpent was actually a serpent, and if said serpent was looking for a meal, or a bride.
