Work Text:

Sasuke doesn't care for miscellaneous shit. He’s over the fact that people approach him just for his looks or thinking they know him when they really don't.

Sasuke doesn't do random crushes either. He’s never really been interested in someone just by looking at them. Maybe, it’d help if he got to know someone. But he doesn't care for that either.

So when his brother drags him out to a Valentine's Day mixer, out of all things– Sasuke is not amused. If anything he’s highly unamused.

“Lighten up,” Itachi’s hand grips down on his shoulder, “you look like you're constipated.”

Ugh. That definitely doesn't help, “shut up,” he’s muttering, shrugging his brother’s hand off of him.

Itachi’s voice lowers a bit, “five girls just looked you over, don't be such a grump.”

It’s like Itachi doesn't get it. He’s not interested in the slightest. Girls just never appealed to him and he’s not interested in showing them a fun time. He’s about to turn around and go home before Itachi smacks him on the shoulder as he sees his friends,“yo hey,” and heads over to the bar.

Thing is, Sasuke thinks he might be gay. He has to be at this point. Not that he’ll tell Itachi cause that opens up a whole new window of matchmaking. A whole new realm of possibilities for his brother to find him love…

Which he frankly doesn't need.

Sasuke eyes anything around the room that keeps him entertained while his brother wanders around trying to get lucky. Maybe he should just sit on the couch in the corner of the room and change his phone. It is about to die.

That would be exactly what he would do, but firstly he has no charger, and secondly, sitting on the couch scrolling on his phone would be just marvelous if he wasn't hitting the 20% mark.

Still, he refuses to mingle.

He’s sitting around before a pink haired girl approaches him, “Hey, is this seat taken?” He hums a no, as the girl slides in. She's just watching him. He could feel her eyes on him.

“You came here alone?” he asks after a moment of silence.

“Brother,” only 2 syllables. He’s unamused to say any more letters.

God, he’s not giving her much to work with, but the girl starts talking fast, “well, I came here with my friend but then her friend tagged along and he’s just so annoying–”

As her voice slows down, “--but anyways, do you wanna dance?’

“No.”

“No?”

“I’m not interested.”

With a huff and a mutter of, “how rude,” he sinks back into his seat. She’s the rude one for interrupting him.

He’s barely even looked up from his phone. He’ll continue to be on his phone and drain the remaining battery and catch himself a Taxi Go with the last 5%. Unless, he manages to drag his brother home with him.

He’s sitting around, as he feels someone walk closer.  He doesn't know if the girl decided to come back, before he feels the plops of someone sitting in the chair beside him.

“Hey,” Sasuke is about to groan, before he looks up and meets eyes with a well– cute looking stranger. He’s blond with some scarring on his cheeks. But handsome, nonetheless.

“What,” sure, his response is not the best. But the guy doesn't seem repulsed by it. He’s just a bit turned off from his last encounter..

“Just trying to mingle,” his voice is warm and kinda soft, it makes Sasuke’s heart flutter a little. Gross. “And you're very pretty.” He’s such a hypocrite. Talking about not wanting attention but blushing when some random fool approached him.

“Well, don't do it with me,” he cannot amuse this, “not interested.”

The man has a little sad face, but he seems to take no for an answer.

Ugh. The man goes to stand up but suddenly, Sasuke doesn't want him to leave. Sasuke isn't gonna ruin Valentine's Day for some guy he finds cute…

“Wait,” he’s stopping the man from getting up. A flash of hope seems to run though his eyes. There’s nothing Sasuke can really think of saying to keep him around, “Do you have a phone charger?”

“Uh, no?” The man answers, “But I can find one! I’m sure I can ask around–”  His voice is expressive and quick.

“Sure,” it shouldn't be cute, but it kinda is.

“If I get you the phone charger, would you give me your number?”  It’s also the way the man looks at him, not like an object but rather so warmly that it makes him lace their fingers together. Plus, anything for a charger at this point.

Sasuke sighs, honestly, something about him gets under his skin in a good way, “Sure.”

The man smiles. Like a real smile. It reaches his eyes and Sasuke never thought that he could give someone this type of reaction.

Then there’s that pink haired girl again, approaching closer, and has an eye on the blond. “Common Naruto, let's go.”

Naruto . That’s his name, huh?

“Huh? Sakuraaa? Give me a minute,” but he’s not turning around to face the other who's displeased.

“Sorry,” there he is looking frazzled again, “Could I maybe grab your number anyways?” His voice is quick, like he’s kinda embarrassed. But his eyes are wide, and fuck, it’s weird how much he likes getting a reaction out of him.

“Common Naruto,” God. What's this girl’s deal? “He’ll never give it to you.”

He can tell the blond doesn't even feel that confident in himself as the words hit him.

“Uh, my phones dead,” he figures that Naruto would just slide his phone towards him at this point and he’ll pop in his digits but it seems like the other took it as a solid no.

“Oh,” he took is as a rejection, fuck.

He didn't want that. He did want to give his number. But then his smile repears. It’s not as vibrant as before but he gives a small wave bye and makes his way out with the pink-haired girl.

“Told you,” the girl states.

Fuck.

Naruto doesn't come back to the event.

“How’s the party?” Itachi asks, after Sasuke did manage to find a charger and spent the last hour thinking about Naruto's eyes.

“Shit.”

“Okay, antisocial loner,” Itachi smacks him on the back as they leave the apartment.

“And you promised food,” His stomach growled. “I’m hungry.”

'There's a place open late close by,’ Itachi says, as they make their way down and out onto the street. It’s cold outside and Sasuke wishes he had brought a heavier jacket.

Still, there's no breeze as both men walk in silence. “What's gotten you so moody?”

“Ugh,” he’s not moody. But the whole ordeal with Naruto and his friend has him feeling some type of way. “It’s nothing.”

“So it’s something.”

“Let’s just get food,” he’s muttering, pushing Itachi to the side. Still, his brother tries his best. But he isn’t going to tell him he regrets giving out his number, that’ll be truly embarrassing.

The restaurant Itachi brings them into is a cute place, definitely small with warm lighting and a casual set up. As they turn the corner, he can spot the familiar blond hair he was just thinking about. Naruto .

It’s faith, it gotta be faith at this point.

“Uh, pick a spot,” he’s fast with his words. It’s an impulsive decision, but he needs to go ask for Naruto’s number. “I’ll be right back.”

“Uhh what–”

He’s approaching the table at the back and it’s obvious when the group of four seem to notice him. It’s a mixed reaction, he figures, but all he’s doing is watching Naruto as his eyes widen.

“Are you here to apologize for being so rude?” The pink haired girl snaps, “well just know you can apologize over a date–”

But his eyes are on Naruto, “I charged my phone,” he says as a greeting.

“Uhhh..?” He’s truly left him speechless.

“So you can add your number in,” Sasuke’s heart is beating a little. He might not show it but he’s a bit flustered. He’s taking out his phone to the contacts app before he gives the man time to refuse. Maybe he really should be more polite…

But Naruto grins. He’s eating ramen and the noodles are kinda sliding out of his mouth right now. It should be gross, but Sasuke is indifferent. Sasuke’s honestly intrigued with this man's boyish charm.

“I’ll take you out on a really nice date, I promise!” It should be embarrassing. He doesn't even know if his brother is watching this unfold. But still– Sasuke is happy.

It’s a weird feeling.

But he can't wait to start to feel it more.
