So much pain intertwined with so much joy. They've been through a lot, but look at the family they've found and the home they've made for themselves. I was so sad to see them have to leave it behind.
And that's one way to spend the end of the world. After so much time of trying to survive, to optimize, to make every decision carefully, there's freedom in doing the things you've always wanted to do. The situation really sucks, but they spent the ends of their lives in joy.
The ending really changes the tone. Of course, instead of having his last thoughts be of peace and joy with his family, he had to regain consciousness just in time to experience the panic and dread of the world actively ending. Takes it from something sad but fluffy to pure despair.
I liked that they all were in a relationship with each other, and like in most romantic relationships, sex is an everyday thing and they joke and talk about it without qualms.
