Chapter Text
Sun poured into the Evelyn’s window as she stared at a small crack in the wall, lost in thought.
It was often she found herself zoning out like this, it was something normal for her; the problem child, the reason dad left, the living disappointment.
It was nothing new and definitely not something she didn’t deserve. She was never a kind person, and there isn’t anyone else to blame but herself.
It was an average Tuesday afternoon, filled with tales of what lies beyond the gates, things like faeries that will use your blood to water their gardens, freshwater sirens that will paralyze you and drag you down into the water and drown you, and vampires who will appear as lost children only to transform into winged monsters and stick their barbed tongues down their victim’s throats and drink as much blood as they please. Tales warning children not to go past the gates.
Evelyn snapped out of her little trance by the ring of the bells meaning it was time to pray to another fallen hero, whose name hasn’t been spoken since before the plague that spread across the dragon territory during the 14nth century.
It will be over soon.
In September they will round up every 12 year old girl with some form of ties to the faeries to find out which one the creators chose to be our next hero.
Evelyn often daydreams about being the
Her ancestors were the ones who built the gates and met the fae. It could never be her though, the next hero was said to be someone with a bright soul and the determination to lead lyrakind to happiness.
Evelyn was sour and apathetic.
But it was a possibility.
She made her way out of her room and walked with her mother and brother to the statue of an old hero.

Victoria sat in front of a large window, brushing her starry purple hair after celebrating yet another goal achieved.
She tied it up into a ponytail and started to pack up her bags, after all it was almost September and she was more than sure that she was the next hero.
A prodigy, a dreamer with hopes to heal lyrakind, and be someone others can look up to. And of course always excited to meet new friends
A young girl, with lineage from all over the planet, the perfect mix of sugar faerie, starlight faerie and human.

The first of September a day every person with slightly potential to be the next hero will gather in the oldest school in the land and find out who it is.
Evelyn who met the minimum requirements to enroll stood at the front of the building, and walked in, putting on a confident persona.
Victoria held onto her bags as she floated into the building happily
Eventually after settling into the room they both shared Victoria decided to speak
“Sooo, who are you?! I’m Victoria! I’m a faerie!”
Evelyn looked over at her and answered
“I’m Eve, i hail redberry village up north.”
“Ooh so are ya a human or something?”
“On my mother’s side, yes”
“What about your dad?”
“He’s a kitsune but he left for another land when i was 3”
“I see. Do ya wanna be friends?”
Evelyn was a little taken aback by the sudden request.
“Perhaps”
“YES!! We will be the best of friends!!”
