    Summary

I don’t remember the day they took me. Not clearly.

There are flashes. Mom screaming, blood on the front seats, steel toed boots kicking in the window. My body remembers more than my mind does. A cold sweat breaks on my back whenever I hear steel snapping or the whine of heavy locks. My ribs twitch where they never healed right. My teeth ache where they shattered my jaw.

I remember the sky. I remember the sound of branches snapping as we fell. And I remember the man who pulled me from the car.

The man with the metal arm.

I was twelve. A small, wiry kid. I liked climbing trees, scaling rooftops, fitting in places I wasn’t supposed to be. I thought I was clever.

    HYDRA thought I was useful.
