Chapter 1: Ranchers!!

Chapter Text

Jimmy wasn’t sure why he’d even come to this party. Maybe to get drunk. Maybe because Joel had practically dragged him along. Or maybe—though he’d never admit it—to see Tango. The second he walked in he knew he should’ve just stayed home, The place stenched of cheap alcohol.

The place was packed, music loud enough to make his ears ring. Within an hour, half the people at the party were already drunk, Joel included—so much for a ride home. It didn’t take long before someone suggested seven minutes in heaven. And it didn’t take long before they pressured Jimmy into playing, either.

So here he was, sitting on the floor in a circle of friends at some dumb frat party, wishing he could disappear. The bottle was shoved into his hands, and with a slightly shaky breath he gave it a spin. Secretly, he hoped it would land on Tango. Not that he’d ever tell anyone that.

And of course—because the universe loved making jokes at his expense—it did. The bottle pointed straight at Tango.

Before he could even process anything, Gem was already grinning and pushing them both into the closet.

The door clicked shut, leaving them in darkness. Jimmy pressed himself against one wall, Tango on the other. They said nothing for a while, before Jimmy couldn't take it anymore.

Finally, the words tumbled out before Jimmy could stop them.
“I—I really like you, Tango. I can’t get you out of my head.”

Tango’s eyes widened. For a while, he just stared.
“…Thanks?” he said, voice uncertain, as though the confession had knocked the air out of him.

Jimmy’s heart plummeted—until Tango added softly, “If it makes you feel any better… I like you too, Jimmy.”

Well, Jimmy had been expecting pretty much anything other than that. His heart hammered in his chest as he took a hesitant step forward, testing the waters.

To his surprise, Tango moved to meet him halfway. Slowly, Tango lifted a hand and cupped Jimmy’s cheek, the touch feather-light.

It felt as if Jimmy forgot how to breathe.
“Your eyes are beautiful, Tango,” he whispered, Voice full of affection. As Jimmy lifted his eyes up to meet tango’s piercing red eyes, softened by tango’s soft smile. They kept eye contact for what felt like a few seconds too long, but neither of them cared.

“do you want to..?”, tango slowly said. Jimmy nodded, possibly a little too eagerly.

Tango’s hand slipped from jimmys cheek to his neck, thumb brushing against the back of his neck. Tango’s breath slowly fanned against jimmy’s face, after what felt like forever, their lips met.

Jimmy leaned closer desperate to chase this feeling of warmth, then tango matched him without hesitation. The kiss deepening by the second. Jimmy’s hands found there way to tangos back, clinging as though he was scared tango would slip away. The sounds of the party faded to nothing as all Jimmy focused on was tangos lip’s against his.

Tango moved his free hand slowly got tangled in jimmy’s hair, tugging just enough to earn a small gasp form Jimmy. The pulled apart for a second, foreheads pressed together. Both of them panting.

Then tango dove back in, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, this time the kiss was harder- more desperate. Jimmy barely had time to catch his breath before tango guided him against the wall, still not breaking the kiss. Then before Jimmy knew it, he was against the floor, tango straddling him.
jimmy let out a surprised noise against tangos mouth. His hands instinctively finding tango’s waist to steady him. Tango only smirked into the kiss, deepening it.

After a few more moments, they finally broke apart. Both gasping for air. The sight of tango made jimmy’s chest tighten, Tango’s flushed face and crooked grin. Jimmy had to bite back the whine in his throat as tango pulled away, the last thing he wanted to do was embarrass himself further.
And then the closet door creaked open.

Gem’s sharp intake of breath filled the silence as the hallway light spilled over them—Jimmy pinned back against the floor, straddled in his tangos lap, their faces still flushed and lips swollen.
“Oh. My. God,” Gem blurted, eyes wide as saucers. It was obvious she was enjoying this from the giant grin on her face.

Jimmy wanted the floor to swallow him whole.

They stumbled out of the closet, both of them red-faced and refusing to meet anyone’s eyes as laughter and whispers rippled through the circle. Jimmy dropped onto the floor beside Joel, tango sat next to him, neither daring to say a word. But every so often, Jimmy’s gaze flicked next to him—just to find Tango already looking back at him.

The game carried on, Jimmy could still feel the weight of curious glances lingering on him and Tango. Grian leaned forward, grabbing the bottle before giving it a spin. The glass rattled against the floor, slowing bit by bit until it finally came to rest—pointing directly at Scar.

For a heartbeat, the room went silent. Then the circle erupted in cheers, laughter, and a chorus of teasing voices. Everyone knew about them. Grian and Scar might not have admitted anything outright, but the looks, the way they gravitated toward each other—it was anything but subtle. The crowd wasted no time calling them out, voices overlapping with chants and jokes, while Grian’s ears burned red and Scar only grinned like he’d been waiting for this all night.
