Chapter Text
(Episode 1 – The usual at Layton's Office)
Another morning arrives over London, another night passes where Hershel took the cough in his office as a bed, with a simple blanket and a open book on him. When Rosa knocks on the door, before coming in, walking up the Professor in the process, especially when saying loudly in the room, “Professor! Rise and shine!” she said loudly in to the room, so he can't fall asleep again. “Mmm~ Eh? Rosa? Is it morning already?” Hershel yawns before getting up and stretching, still feeling a little sleepy. “That it is, Professor. And a beautiful morning at that.” the cleaning Lady answers, all while walking over ,as best as she could over the books lying around, to the window and putting the curtains to the side, letting some more light into the room. “You know, you ought to go home and sleep in a bed from time to time.” she lectures him, to which he right away counters with, “But I'm right in the middle of examining those curious little stones with the intrig-” but before he could continue his explanation, Rose brushes him off quickly. “Yes,yes, I know that. Who do you think tidied up your office last night?” Now look at the state of it! I could just as easily have left it as it is and it wouldn't have made one blind bit of difference!” Rosa got quite frustrated of her hard work being erased within just one night, making her sigh, not knowing what to do with this hopeless case of a chaotic Professor. “Really now, would a 'true gentleman' leave papers scattered everywhere amid piles of open books?” but before she could pick up anything Hershel right away stops her by telling her right away, “I'm still in the middle of reading them, Rosa! I'll put them away when I've finished, of course, just not yet. Please.” that once again makes Rosa sigh. “You always say that, Professor, but I've never once seen them find their way back to the shelves!” she comments, but respects for now the Professor's wish and leaves most of the books where they aren't tripping hazards and instant puts some to the side, where they couldn't bother her cleaning up, all while the Professor takes a short break.
Until, after some time a knocking was to hear on the door before it opens and a young woman in a wheelchair comes in with short dark-blue hair and a few books on her lap, on top of it a folder. “Good morning. Excuse my intrusion, Professor. I'm here to give in my Paperwork for the Project.” she said polity, while the Professor looks over to her before putting his book in his hand aside to come over to her. “Ah, Jolyne, good morning. That is wonderful, I will look over them as soon as I can.” he said in response while Jolyne hands him the Folder over. But then sighs a little. “I'm so sorry again, that I had to ask for an extension on my deadline again. The fever came just out of nowhere, other Professors think I am just pretending but... I don't like it as much as you all do.” she said honest, making the Professor smile soft but understanding at her. “ Of course not. No one enjoys being really sick, but if anyone of my colleges gives you a hard time, let me know. I will talk to them about it, so they understand as well.” he assures her, making the young woman smile back up to him. “I-I wouldn't say giving me a hard time, I shouldn't get to much special treatment just because of my condition after all... But, I'm sure I can make it. Just watch me!” she got motivated a little, before coughing a little. That now makes Rosa come over to put the back of her hand checking on the student's Forehead. “As eager as ever but, you still have a little temper. Special treatment or not, you should take care of yourself, Darling, or you'll end up worse than this mess or a Professor here.” she said looking at Layton right away, who blinks a little confused but also worried between the two. “Well, in that I can't object. Rosa is right, Jolyne. You shouldn't overdo things. If you don't feel well during today's Lecture, please tell me and you can go rest a little in the Infirmary. I'm sure, Charlie will be willing enough to share their notes with you afterwards.” he reminds her, making his student blush a little embaresed, when he mentions Charlie. “Y-Yes, I will. So Sorry to make you worried again.” she said letting her head sink a little. “That is quite alright, my Dear. Now, we still have some time. I've got something that might interest you as well. This little stones here you found at the other expedition, seem to turn out to be gems. Yet, as much as I look into their characteristics, they don't seem to overlap with those of gems that are known so far. It is quite fascinating.” the Professor changes the subject quickly, making his student curious now as well. “Oho? That does sound interesting. I never thought it could be something so unexplored.” she said honest. “Where did you found them again? Please remind me, if you can. I seem to forgotten.” the Professor asks her making her giggle a little. “Around the area where the Golden Garden was assumed to be. Ehm... Misthallery, I believe was the Town called. But, it turns out there was no Garden, Golden or otherwise, sadly. However, it is quite a beautiful place. Clean air, although always foggy and a lot of green, it was just difficult to get around without Charlie's help, but that is nothing new.” she explains to her Professor all while Rose sighs a little and goes back to her work. “I can't understand them at all. When they get like this, there's no shutting them up... I wonder how this two are doing this almost 24 hours a day...” she mumbles to herself, before continuing to clean up and provide some tea for the two talking once.
