Chapter Text
The text "November 6th, 1983, Hawkins, Indiana," is shown amongst a starry background, setting up the scene. The camera perspective is then shifted down to show Hawkins National Laboratory US Department of Energy.
"The quality is nuts!" Lucas exclaimed, shaking Dustin aggressively.
"The pixels are non-existent!" He too agreed.
"The future must be glorious," Mike added. El nodded, as her love for television spent from her time in the Wheeler's basement did not go forgotten.
The scene shifted to presumably inside the lab, with flickering lights. The viewpoint zoomed onto a specific door, building up tension and suspense and the screen got closer and closer. Suddenly, the door opened with a loud bang as a person rushed out and an alarm sounded. The person, who looked to be a scientist (as they were wearing a white lab coat) ran though the hallways, his terror displayed in his harsh breathing and desperateness to escape in the lift he had reached.
After continuously pressing the button and looking back, the doors finally opened, and he ducked in, a temporary sense of calm washing over him as he similarly pressed the close button. The flickering hallway is constantly shown, but that wasn't the main threat - a low growling came from the ceiling lift, and as the man looked up in fear, he was snatched up, and the lift closed as if nothing had happened.
"... What the actual FUCK." Steve yelled, very confused yet shaking. Jonathan was quite troubled after watching the scene too, yet seeing Steve almost piss his pants made him die laughing and collapse onto the floor in fits of laughter. No one paid much mind to him though.
"The quality made it so much more terrifying..." Nancy murmured.
"It sounded like it was happening right in this room!" Dustin said.
Lucas nodded. "Right?"
"So we all agree that was a demo-shit-shit, right?" said Hopper.
"A what?" Karen asked.
"It's Demogorgon, old man." Mike told him.
"Mike! Show some manners!" Karen scolded. Her son just sighed in return.
"It was most likely a creature from the Upside Down," Joyce said to Hopper.
"... Upside Down?" Karen repeated, a little puzzled.
"You'll see what we mean eventually, Mom," Nancy reassured.
The Wheeler's back garden is shown with their sprinklers working overtime. "Something is coming. Something hungry for blood." Mike Wheeler is heard saying, playing in his DnD campaign with his 3 friends. "A shadow grows on the wall behind you, swallowing you in darkness. It is almost here."
"What is it?" Will Byers eagerly asked, leaning forward in his chair. Dustin Henderson and Lucas Sinclair are also very interested, wanting to know more.
"What if it's the Demogorgon?" Dustin threw out, to which Will groaned. "Oh, Jesus, if it's the Demogorgon we're so screwed." Mike secretly grinned at this.
"Oh, so, it's the made-up characters from your board game?" Karen clarified. "Why are you all on board with this then? And acting as if it's real? I mean, that Demo-whatever can't have possibly been the reason for that poor guy's death!" Karen continued.
"Miss Wheeler, if you allow me to explain." Jonathan started. "This may be really confusing at first, I mean I think I can say for everyone here that it was. But what you will see is all true, and yeah, it's fucking scary, but it's reality."
"Oh... okay, thank you?" She told him, still not understanding.
"I promise Miss Wheeler, watching it will be more helpful than us trying to explain it to you." Hopper built on.
"Also mom, it isn't just a board game." Mike told his mother, most likely for the hundredth time since they started playing some time ago.
"Can I just say, you guys were incredible dorks." Max teased. Lucas playfully nudged her arm at the comment, leading to Max shoving him back. Hard.
"OwwWwWWw!" Lucas screamed.
"Drama queen." She said in response mockingly.
