Summary
Vegas is a new writer Pete’s been assigned to. On paper, he’s everything a rising star should be — smooth, polite, perfectly put together — but something about him never sits quite right with Pete.
Still, Pete can’t help admiring his work. The stories feel too raw, too honest, like they were pulled from someone’s ribs rather than imagined. When Pete gently says so, Vegas just smiles, dismisses it, and tells him he reads too emotionally.
But over time, the polished edges start slipping. Pete notices small things… a pause too long, a shadow behind the charm, the way Vegas looks away when feelings brush too close.
What started as simple admiration begins to feel personal, risky, and painfully real — a connection neither of them planned for, and one Pete isn’t sure Vegas even wants him to see.
