Chapter Text
"There's still Heidi tomorrow night, but the problem with Heidi is that she's going out of state for college. Do I wanna start another relationship that has no point other than sex? I mean, I don't know. Does that make sense to you? Robin are you listening?" Steve asked.
"Uh, yes." Robin said, putting on mascara.
"What did I just say?"
"Something about sex with Linda."
"No, I'm talking about Heidi."
"Cut me some slack, please."
"Well-"
"Your love life is one of complete labyrinthine complexity."
"I can agree with that." I pipped up. I wince, my hairbrush tugging on my hair as I desperately tried to brush it.
"It's 7:00 in the morning, we have this stupid pep rally, and I woke up looking like a corpse."
"I thought you looked pretty." I said.
"Thank you Y/N." Robin said.
"You're worried about a pep rally? You expect me to believe that?" Steve questioned, not buying any bs. "Yeah, so?" Robin replied, busying herself in the mirror. "So we all know what this is about. I'm not buying this bullshit. This is about Vickie." Steve countered.
"Absolutely not."
"It is. You know what else?"
"I don't care-"
"You gotta stop acting like someone else around her. You just gotta be yourself."
"You're literally quoting me to me. You do realize that."
"Maybe you need to listen to yourself." I say.
"Yeah. You ever think about that?" Steve said.
"I listened. Boom. Back in business. It's not the same thing. Okay? Steve, you ask out a girl she says no. Big deal. Nothing happens. Maybe your ego's a little bruised. I ask the wrong girl, and bam, I'm the town pariah."
"I'd buy that, except Vickie is definitely not the wrong girl."
"We just don't know, do we?"
"She's definitely the not the wrong girl. I've caught her staring at you like, seven times!" I exclaimed.
"She returned Fast Times paused at 53 minutes, 5 seconds. Know who pauses Fast Times at 53 minutes, 5 seconds? People who like boobies!"
"Steve!" I say.
"Ew, gross. Don't say boobies!"
I nod in agreement, my face cringing.
"Not a big deal. Okay? I like boobies. You like boobies. Y/N might like boobies. Vickie likes boobies! Definitely. It's boobies."

I jump out of the car and run inside. With a quick stop at my locker to throw my stuff in it, I was ready to go to the pep rally. I ran in to the gym. Through the crowd, I spot Chrissy Cunningham, the only tolerable "popular" girl out of all the rest of them. I guess you could say we're friends. She sees me and waves me over.
"Hey." I say. "You were almost late." She teased. "But I wasn't." I pointed out with a smile.
"Alright girlies and Rob!" An incredibly annoying voice said. It was Sarah, the cheer teams leader. "Now that Y/N's finally here, ready to start?" She asked.
Everyone nods.
"Then let's get out and cheer!"
We run to the center and began our routine. Soon, it was time for me to climb onto Rob, Casey, and Lola's back, then Sarah and Lindsey's back to create a human pyramid. Then, I flipped off of them and landed perfectly. The crowd went wild. I smiled and waved.
As I ran back into position beside Chrissy, I caught a certain curly haired boys eye. I lost all focus and slipped. Luckily Chrissy has really fast reflexes and caught me just in time.
"Thanks." I whispered. "No problem." She whispered back. We finished up the routine by lifting up Sarah and throwing her, then catching her. The crowd cheered. We ran to the side and sat down in front of the bleachers.
"And let's hear it for our Tigers!"
The announcer said. The basketball team came running out. More cheering.
"Good morning Hawkins High!" Jason Carver, the captain of the team shouted into the microphone.
Even more cheering and yelling. Jason gave some bullshit pep talk for the game tomorrow, referencing people he barely knew or even cared about. What an ass. I would never understand why Chrissy decided to date him of all the guys she could pick.
"Alright everyone, head to class!" The announcer shouted.
We all got up and started walking away. I glanced at Chrissy, who was walking beside me. She didn't look too good. "You okay?" I ask.
"Hm?"
"Are you okay? You look sick."
"Oh, um I'm okay. Just... Need something to drink."
"Okay... If your sure. Do you need some water? I've got some."
"I've got my own, but thanks." Chrissy replied.
"Okay, see you at lunch."
