Chapter Text
Berk High was filled with students once again after the holiday, new students trying to find their classes and others by their lockers complaining about their new schedules. Astrid was leaning against hers trying to commit her schedule into her memory when a familiar figure was spotted in the corner of her eye.
“Astrid! Did you hear about-”
“You know I don’t engage in rumors, Ruffnut.”
Ruffnut pouted, but she continued anyway, “It’s not a rumor if it’s true, technically. Anyway, guess who came back to Berk.”
Astrid sighed, angling her body to face Ruff, giving her full attention.
“Hiccup! The little runt apparently came back.”
Astrid raised a brow, the last time she checked Stoick, his father, was brutally injured. He was of course going to come back to see him. So that’s what she said.
“No dumbass, I mean he’s coming back for good. Apparently he’s joining Berk High too.”
Well, she wasn’t expecting that. But she also didn’t understand why that was important either. “Alright…I guess so.” She turned back to the schedule in hand, not that she was thinking about it anyway. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t curious about Hiccup, and how he is now. He had disappeared one day without even a whisper of where to anyone. It took Snotlout’s father randomly stating his location, and Snotlout spreading it to every character in the school. To this day, Astrid still can’t tell whether Snotlout was happy or jealous of Hiccup. Speaking of the devil…
“Hey hey Astrid-” Astrid moved out of the way, letting Snotlout hug the empty space she was just in. “Ok…”
Ruffnut giggled behind her, knowing how pissed Snotlout would be with the news of Hiccup's return. But before she could say anything, the warning bell rang, and Astrid took her leave before anyone could stop her.
<....>
“UGH! THIS IS SO UNFAIR!” Snotlout’s voice boomed as he sat down on the table, earning the group stares from everyone around them. Astrid assumed he heard the news which was the cause of his anger, which is weird considering Snotlout was his cousin, he should have heard by now. But then again, anything that goes into Snotlout’s ear comes out the other.
“I don’t know about you guys,” Fishlegs started, “but I’m kinda excited to see him again.”
“Of course you are. You’re both weird loser nerds and every other insult I can’t think of.”
“Wait, who are we talking about?” Everyone slowly turned their heads towards Heather. “What?”
“Hiccup is back.” Heather nodded slowly, “ooh..that explains the jealousy basically drooling out of Snotlout.”
“Oh shut up Heather!”
“I don’t know..Imagine the chaos we can cause with him again.” The twins chuckled, and Astrid took that time to tune out the conversation, choosing to finish her food rather than listen to the twins' fantasies.

The preparations to enrol him into Berk High took longer than expected, so he was to join school tomorrow instead. Hiccup would be lying if he said he was ready to see his peers again. If he could choose between losing another limb or go to Berk High, he would choose the former.
Maybe that was a slight exaggeration.
He caught his reflection in the mirror as he paced around his room. He was much taller for sure, considering everything in his old room felt smaller to what he remembered. He was still skinny compared to most boys here, but he wasn’t weak either. His face is more sculpted and his hair longer, still sticking out in every direction.
Toothless nudged his leg, his leash hanging from his mouth. He laughed a little, maybe this wouldn’t be so bad.
