Summary
Kurt has never liked his stepfather, sensed something was off about him even before the abuse began. Now his mother is gone and Kurt is stuck with the man she chose to marry in her dying months. He used to be happy in this house, this town. Now he's consumed by memories, anguish, and his stepfather's nightly abuses. As punishment for an act of defiance, his stepfather leads him to secluded woodland one night and hands him over to a group of dangerous strangers. These men have no qualms about hurting Kurt in the woods, and his stepfather has no problem with watching. When it's over, Kurt is left injured and humiliated, altered, but with the renewed understanding that he must make the abuse stop. His next act of defiance cannot be so minor. It has to be something permanent.
