Chapter Text
Everything is so nice right now.. not a single bit of noise. Your mind is hazy, like you’ve just started to wake up. These blankets are so warm.. The brain fog begins to clear and you can just barely make out a voice saying your name. You want to ignore it, you want to stay in this quiet bliss forever, but the voice persists. With a reluctant groan, you mutter a muffled “not now” with what little energy you have at the moment. You feel like you’ve been sleeping for years. Despite your protest, the voice insists that you get up. So with a sigh, you force yourself into a sitting position and rub the blur from your eyes.
Once your vision clears, you’re greeted with the sight of your friend Pap shaking you awake. He smiles upon seeing you awake and goes to wake up his brother. Papyrus served as the living alarm clock in your eyes, he’s a sweetie, but he almost never sleeps. You really worry for the guy sometimes. You, Sans, and Papyrus have been sticking together for about a year now. You ran into them one time after you got caught snatching some food from a pastry stand, and you kept seeing them more and more after that. In your eyes, it was inevitable that you three would become friends eventually.
Well, Papyrus is up and you are too. You stretch and drag yourself out of bed with a yawn. You never cared for waking up early in the morning. You’d sleep alllll day if you could. At night however, it’s really difficult for you to fall asleep. You recall one memory when Papyrus walked outside the inn to see you absolutely entranced by the light outside. You’ve gotten a bit better at sleeping earlier since then.
Whenever you three would get low on food, one or two of you would go find more. You three switched each time, first it’s Sans and his brother, then it’s you next time. While someone’s getting the food, the other usually waits and does what they like to. However, you tend to be really bored on your own, so you usually choose to go with them to find food. They never choose to go with you though. Why would they need to, they have each other.
Maybe it’s silly, but you feel a little upset that they always have someone to go to, but you don’t. Not really. Sure, you’re all friends, but they don’t really need you. They’ve been with each other through everything. You just showed up one day a year ago, and the only thing you do for them is get food sometimes. It feels stupid being jealous of the brothers. Sans practically raised him after all, of course they’re gonna go off and have fun while you’re getting food.
You really care about those two, and it sometimes feels like they forget about you. It doesn’t make sense, and it makes you feel rude for being upset over this. It doesn’t really matter anyways, you three are low on food and it’s your turn to get more. You grabbed your worn down bag and walked out the door. The innkeeper gave you your own room so you don’t have to share it with the brothers. You made sure to give them the extra key though, just in case they need anything.
You knock on the door and wait for them to let you in. Sans opens the door and greets you with a small wave. “Hey Remi, what’s going on?”
“I’m gonna get us more food! We’re low.” You say with a grin. Sans nods and smiles back at you. “Okay! Have fun, friend!”
You see Papyrus waving excitedly at you from across the small room with a big toothy grin on his face as the door is closed in front of you. With that, you set off to get them food. All is the same for about another 2 months.
It was the brother’s turn to get food this time, but instead, they encountered a strange man sitting in the snow. He was much taller than the three of them combined, and had two scars starting from his eyes leading in opposite directions on his face. With him was a young reptilian monster, about their age. The brothers hid behind a nearby tree, watching as the young monster talked about something they couldn’t quite hear.
Just then, the older skeleton noticed the two hiding behind the tree. He looked exhausted, but he smiled and replied “Yes. The wait has finally paid off.”
