Summary
present day, dennis is finally starting to hit his stride at his rotation at the pitt. he's thriving in his final year in med school and forming close relationships with his co-workers and new roommate, proving to himself and to his superiors that he's got game. and then he's diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. he's entirely unwilling to let the illness stop him from achieving all that he's worked towards, and continues to work for receiving grievous treatment, for better or for worse.
twenty years ago, robby started his position as an attending physician at the ptmc emergency department fresh out of residency in new orleans. he meets jack, an overzealous med student navigating life after being discharged from the army. they're close, too close. the director of the ED and robby's mentor, adamson, isn't fond of the affect jack has on his star physician, and worries about the toll it takes on robby's mental state when eventually jack marries a ptmc regular, juliana.
when dennis has no one else to rely on when treatment doesn't go smoothly, jack and robby are forced to confront their shared past to come together and care for him.
