Chapter Text
Melody and Felix were taking a stroll through the Fun-Faire. Felix had his hands shoved in his pockets, looking around at all the rides and flashy lights. His sensitive fish eyes weren't too fond of those, so he averted his gaze to look over at his sister, who seemed to be blushing and staring at a certain bee girl. That made him smirk. He nudged her.
“You can't be any less obvious, y'know."
The moon jolted slightly, her face only heating up more.
“I–I can't help it…she's just so pretty…”
He nudged her again, a little rougher this time.
“Then ask her out, man!”
She rubbed her shoulder with a slight pout, averting her gaze and looking down all mopey like.
“It isn't that easy, Fe..”
He scoffed, crossing his arms.
“Ofcourse it is, you just gotta walk up to her and say ‘hey, wanna make-out?’”
Usually that would've amused her a little, or gotten some sort of reaction out of her, but instead she just sighed. That sent a weird pang through Felix's heart. Seeing his sister sad made him sad, and he couldn't have that. He frowned a little, shaking his head.
“You're hopeless. You know what, fine, I'll help you out here, but only because you're sooo pathetically in love and it's making me feel sick.”
She smiled and looked up, the earlier crestfallen expression fading from her features.
“You'd do that for me?”
He crossed his arms and smirked again, nodding. The thing was, Felix loved matchmaking, perhaps it was just his love for stirring the pot, but he'd never pass down an opportunity to be a wingman. He also just couldn't keep secrets to save his life, so he usually ended up spilling other people's crushes unintentionally anyways.
“Sure man, I got nothing better to do anyways, and seeing you all mopey is a downer.”
That was somewhat true, in all truth he just wanted to make his sister happy. Also he might've totally accidentally broken his fishing rod the other day in an incident that totally absolutely wasn't his fault. So yeah…he really had nothing better to do.
Melody jumped in joy, suddenly crushing the fish in an airtight hug in which he choked in response, the air completely knocked out of him.
“Thank you so much, Felix!”
He struggled against the embrace, trying to wiggle his way out so he could get some air, awkwardly patting her back so she'd release him.
“Yeah, yeah just– let me go–”
She finally released him, still beaming. It was probably not her best move to trust someone like Felix with something so delicate like love, but Felix, despite his reckless impulsiveness, could be very convincing when he sounded confident.
“So, what first?”
The question from Mel made him freeze up, quickly remembering he knew absolutely nothing about any of this stuff. He had a couple boyfriends and girlfriends in like…middle school, but usually he was the one getting asked out, not asking other people out. They also usually broke up with him in about a week…but that wasn't important. He tapped his chin for a second, and to everyone's surprise, thinking for once.
“Uh…well first you gotta uh…”
Good answer Felix.
He snapped his fingers.
“A gift. You never wanna ask someone out empty handed.”
He smirked again, yeah, that sounded convincing enough, he sounded like a total expert. Which he uh…totally was.
Melody seemed to accept that answer, tilting her head.
“Like what?”
Her second question made him freeze again, his brain racking through what an acceptable gift for someone would even be. He found his answer reasonably fast this time.
“Flowers, duh.”
Melody smiled, god was he good at this.
“Okie then! Where do we get flowers?”
They both pondered for a moment, only to come to the conclusion that they were both broke.
So that's how they ended up by a patch of flowers in a small clearing in the woods of the farm. God, the things he did for his sister. They were both picking flowers, collecting them in a basket. Not too many, just enough to make a decent bouquet.
Through the trees Felix swore he saw Andy, his fins perking up as he saw the apple currently hard at work. He was mostly obscured by the trees, so it was hard to tell just what exactly he was doing, but Felix felt an odd feeling settle in his chest anyways. That was weird…he forced his gaze back down to the patch of flowers, yanking out another daisy. That earned him a scolding from his sister.
“Felix, not so rough..you'll rip a petal..”
He sighed.
“My bad…do we have enough yet?”
Melody looked at the basket, evaluating how many they had. She finally nodded.
“Yeah, that should be enough, cmon.”
She stood and brushed the dirt off her skirt, helping her brother up who grabbed the basket.
They began walking through the woods again, nimbly dodging branches as they made their way back onto the farm.
The sunlight, no longer obscured by trees, made Felix's eyes sting for a moment, but he quickly blinked it away, only for his gaze to land on a certain apple who was just a couple feet away, picking apples from a nearby tree. Andy seemed to notice the two, turning to them with a curious, yet friendly gaze.
“Oh, hey you two, what's going on?”
He felt it again, and his face began to heat up, he convinced himself it was just because of the sun.
Melody returned the apple’s smile, presenting the basket of flowers.
“We're making a bouquet for Baylee!”
Andy tilted his head, almost akin to how a dog would.
“What's the occasion?”
Felix tried to shake off whatever weird flusteredness he was feeling, gently nudging Melody's shoulder and forcing his usual nonchalant tone.
“Because she likes her. I'm helping her confess.”
Melody blushed as Andy's smile widened, all the progress Felix had made in shoving his feelings down completely dissipating as the apple spoke again.
“Oh, well I wish you the best of luck!”
“Thanks Andy, we'll be on our way now!”
Melody waved him off and began to walk away, but Felix buffered for a second.
“U-uh yeah…bye.”
He spun on his heel and followed, mentally berating himself for his slip up as he cursed under his breath. He quickly caught up with Melody, forcing his mellow expression again.
They made it back to her house, sitting down at the table and beginning to construct their little bouquet.
Felix needed a distraction, anything, so he tried to spark up conversation.
“So…why Baylee of like…all people?”
He hadn't meant for that to sound so rude, he was genuinely curious. Fortunately Melody didn't seem to take it that way.
“Well, she's really sweet, she's pretty and nice…I like her voice, oh, and the way her wings glitter in the sun!”
That made him smile slightly, focusing on his sister's feelings definitely made him forget about his…for the moment at least.
After about half an hour of goofing off and rambling about whatever, they finally finished the bouquet. That meant it was time.
They made it back to the Fun-Faire, with Melody clutching the humble little bouquet. Felix shot her a glance, and she returned it. He gave her a small, lopsided smirk, gently nudging her and pointing to where the cotton candy haired bee girl stood. She hesitated momentarily, before walking over.
Felix stood off to the side, enough to be out of sight, but enough to still watch. He couldn't hear anything, but judging by the way the two were smiling, it must've been going alright.
His fins perked up as Melody encased Baylee in a hug, which she returned. They pulled away and the moon subtly looked over her shoulder, giving her brother a smile. He returned it, looking rather proud of himself. Deciding to give the two lovebirds a moment to themselves, turning on his heel and making his way back to the farm.
He brushed his hands off as if he'd just finished a hard task, talking to himself.
“Man, just another successful matchmaking. What would she do without— AUGHH–”
He jolted as he was met with the soft chest of the familiar anthropomorphic apple. His face immediately setting itself ablaze. He stepped back, looking up at him with an expression that didn't even try to hide his flusteredness.
Right…guess he still had his own feelings to deal with…
“A–Andy– what are you doing here?”
Andy rubbed the back of his neck, looking a little sympathetic yet somewhat amused. He let out a small chuckle.
“Sorry Felix, I finished all the farm work so I wanted to come check on how everything was going.”
Felix began fidgeting with his tie, pretending to adjust it.
“It's going fine. I mean…they're together now.”
He gestured over to where the new couple was standing. Andy smiled wider.
“Oh wow, how nice! So what are you up to now?”
He looked around, trying to figure out where exactly to look that wasn't that stupid apple's face.
“I'm– going home now.”
Andy's smile fell just slightly, and he tilted his head again, the hand on the back of his neck moving to his shoulder. Was he…nervous? Disappointed? Or was that Felix's own nerves talking?
“Oh, really?”
“...Yes.”
The fish very awkwardly spat out, before brushing past the apple and beginning to walk off. Andy turned to watch him walk off, his smile falling completely. He waved him off anyways, ignoring his disappointment.
“Oh, well…bye Felix.”
Felix forgot to respond, but gosh did he feel stupid.
He thought back to the interaction as he walked through the woods, making his way back to his small boathouse on the other side of the lake. Was Andy trying to hang out with him? Or had he read that wrong entirely? It didn't matter either way, as he'd completely shot the poor guy down. He felt like such a jerk…and that didn't happen often. Whatever this feeling was, it sure had him in a complete frazzle.
