    Johnny Gage finds himself extremely attracted to and eventually falls in love with a young graduate student he met in the summer of 1978. But, the young woman is Roy's cousin Toni from back east and he forbids his partner from pursuing her. Toni finds herself attracted to the handsome Paramedic when she first meets him during her summer visit with her cousins, but everyone warns her that he has a problem with commitment and likes to play the field with the nurses at Rampart. She finds herself falling in love with him during that summer but keeps her feelings secret. They develop a friendship she doesn't want to ruin by chasing him away.
