Chapter Text
Episode 3: Mazed & Confused
“Previously on Disventure Camp!” Trevor begins excitedly, “The teams faced each other in their first immunity challenge.
“An immunity idol was introduced to the game before the challenge, though nobody was able to search for it due to Karol from Purple and Rosa Maria from Teal’s determination to secure immunity for their respective teams.” Trevor seems sad nobody found the idol in episode 2.
“Despite Teal cutting it close, Oliver’s failure to grab his flags on the log ride cost the Teal Team their second challenge,” Trevor explains the challenge.
“In the end, Yul’s continued bad behavior and barrage of insults spelled doom for his game, despite a valiant effort to get Oliver, James, and Aiden to spare him; his insults towards Oliver and the girls led to Yul becoming the first person voted out. 13 remain. Who’ll be leaving camp today?” Trevor finishes the recap.
Cut to Teal
The scene opens with Teal’s return to camp, where James is furious with Oliver for voting Yul out.
“Oliver, you betrayed us! What is wrong with you!” James questions, furious that his influencer buddy is gone. The Juul nation is in shambles.
Confessional: Oliver
“…I may have burned some bridges by voting out Yul,” Oliver states the obvious. Seemingly not having put much stake in telling some lies to keep himself as the swing vote.
Conf End
“I-I-I’m sorry!” Oliver stammers for a response. “Yul was just really mean,” Oliver explains lamely.
Rosa Maria, seeing this, decides to step in. “He doesn’t have to explain himself to you!” Rosa Maria glares at James, “You should feel ashamed of yourself for working with someone so vile!”
“...” James doesn’t have a proper response to that, huffing in frustration. He got along with Yul, but he isn’t dumb enough to not know why he was voted out twice by 2 different teams.
“We should get some rest,” Lake suggests, not in the mood for petty arguing when Yul was still the one eliminated. “We’ve lost 2 challenges in a row, and I’ve got 3 essays due tomorrow.” Lake points out their obvious struggle as a team.
James sighs in annoyance, prepared for a colder night than usual, “Whatever, just remember that Oliver’s a liar and a traitor. You can’t trust him.”
Oliver pales at the direct targeting.
“He’s the only reason I’m still here, so I’ll trust him as much as I damn please.” Rosa Maria can’t resist getting the last word in.
Confessional: Aiden
“Well, that vote went about as badly as it could’ve gone, Yul left, I’m in the minority, and Oliver sold me & James down the river by lying to me about the vote to get in good with the girls.” Aiden can barely stomach to look at the camera. “And to top it all off, me and James still need Oliver to force a tie.” Aiden finishes, fully aware the blowup James had is not going to help anything.
Conf End
…
It’s finally morning, as evidenced by the better lighting, we see Aiden unzip his sleeping bag to start the day, making it 2 steps out of the tent before tripping over something like a clumsy bitch.
Aiden picks himself up and nudges James awake, trying not to wake Maggy, Oliver, or Rosa Maria.
“Ow, what even is this?” Aiden picks up the book-shaped object, noticing Lake’s absence from the tent as well. "The Puppet's Paracosm." Written by…Lake Müller?”
Aiden has a lot of questions, but he really doesn’t have time for them. Bringing an annoyed James into the forest to talk about how to move forward.
Aiden looks around to make sure nobody’s listening in, “So, how are we going to get out of this?” Aiden looks to James for some ideas.
James has calmed down a bit since yesterday, “I think we should convince the girls to send Oliver home. That idiot ruined our games.” James throws out his current plan.
Aiden just stares at James for a solid 5 seconds before responding bluntly, “…That’s a horrible idea.”
“Oliver needs to go down; there’s no way we can trust him after he voted Yul out.” James tries to convince Aiden that this is in any way a good plan.
“And let’s just say we can talk Maggy & Lake into voting out Oliver, then what? We’ll just be in the minority against them & Rosa.” Aiden doesn’t even begin to point out all the other flaws.
“He betrayed us once; he isn’t going to suddenly backstab the girls after all the lying he did.” James tries to make his plan not seem purely emotional.
“Well, we have to try. In the meantime, we need to hope we either get lucky with challenge wins or find the idol.” Aiden doesn’t seem optimistic, but there aren’t many options.
Confessional: James
James sighs, “This camp is so depressing without Yul around, and to top it all off, Aiden still wants Oliver on our side.” James checks his phone, wincing at the 42% remaining. “I wish I could ask my followers for help, but I can’t even find one bar out here.” James seems to be deep in thought as to how he could find signal.
Conf End
Confessional: Aiden
“Trying to get Oliver on our side is going to be a pain. If he’d have just told me the vote was Yul, I’d be in a much better spot.” Aiden seems annoyed. “Luckily, James seems to be catching more heat for voting Rosa than I am. It’s either getting in good with the girls or flip Oliver. I’m hoping I can at least make the merge.”
Conf End
…
Cut to Purple
We see Tess exiting the tent at a reasonable hour for once. Karol and Riya are working on the fire, Ally is attempting to show Kai how to play Fortnite: Save The World, but unfortunately for Tess, Hunter is nowhere to be seen. Connor also isn’t there, but Tess doesn’t care about that senior citizen.
“Do you have any co-op games? My vibes have been in distress lately.” Kai does not seem to be huge on Ally’s library of competitive games.
Ally seems sad to miss the chance to trash-talk with her local opponents, but starts going through her collection.
Tess walks up to them while Ally loads up Forest Watch on her Nintendo Switch. “Have either of you seen Hunter around?” Tess gets right to the point.
“He went fishing with Connor,” Riya explains from the other side of the fire pit, “It’ll be nice to finally eat something other than fruit for a change.”
Karol sighs, not particularly happy about eating the wildlife. “It’s a good thing we won the fishing gear. If we just keep winning the rewards, Teal won’t be able to make a comeback.” Karol seems happy with the idea of her old team potentially suffering.
Tess doesn’t really want to talk to the middle-aged women and decides to talk with Ally since Hunter isn’t an option.
“So, what are you 2 playing?” Tess asks, voice in the same bored tone as always, attempting to make conversation with someone who isn’t Hunter.
Ally seems excited to finally talk about some of her video games. “So, this is Forest Craft, it’s about a man who survives a plane crash, where you find yourself in a heavily forested peninsula. You fight off monsters and explore the area, trying to find your lost son.” Ally summarizes her game excitedly.
“Oh. How far along are you?” Tess attempts to sound engaged, but her general voice and energy don’t match up well.
“Me & Kai just got our starter base up. I’m thinking we’ll get some armor made before heading to The Pit. Let’s go! I took down one of the cannibals!” Ally has beaten this game 11 times.
Tess doesn’t react, keeping up the same blank stare she always wears, Ally’s cheering quiets due to the uncomfortable vibes. Luckily, this painful scene doesn’t go on for too long as Karol figures they should get a fire going in case Connor and Hunter actually come back with anything.
Confessional: Ally
“I don’t think Tess is doing it on purpose, but her blank stares paired with how little energy she seems to have make her come off as really patronizing.” Ally looks very uncomfortable. “She dredges up the same bad feeling as the hate comments I get when I’m streaming.”
Conf End
…
We see Connor and Hunter in a shared canoe. Connor knows his way around a fishing pole, while Hunter figured he could try to connect with Connor.
Hunter flips through a handful of his cards with questions to help people get to know each other. “Do you go fishing often?” Hunter can’t find one that sounds right and comes up with something generic, peak dialogue.
“I used to, but it’s been a few years.” Connor admits, “It feels like an old man sport, but I guess it suits me now.” Connor chuckles, slightly more comfortable with his 49th birthday coming up.
“Oh, that’s cool.” Hunter isn’t sure how to respond: “How’s camp life been?”
Connor thinks for a minute, “It’s been rough on my back, but the sleeping bags help. Riya’s also good to talk to. What about you?” Hunter wouldn’t know this, as he doesn’t talk to anyone outside of Tess & Ally.
“I’ve been trying to get Tess to open up, but I think she’s struggling a lot in the elements.” Hunter vents a bit to Connor.
Connor seems reflective, “All you can do is put yourself out there; if she doesn’t want to make any friends, there just isn’t much you can do.”
Hunter has a sad look on his face, “I just wish I knew how to connect with her.”
“Okay, that part’s easy, quit pretending you’re someone else; you don’t want her getting attached to someone who doesn’t really exist.” Connor tries to pass on Riya’s words of wisdom. “Anyways, let’s head back to camp to cook our haul before the challenge starts.”
…
We see Karol wandering the forest, gathering firewood. She stumbles upon an injured wolf that recoils when she approaches the beast, covered in blood, naturally she decides the appropriate course of action is to check its injuries, spotting an injured leg…that isn’t bleeding. Karol raises an eyebrow, though she isn’t alone for much longer.
Riya walks up, having been apparently with Karol, not introduced yet, like the background actress she is in her home life.
“AGH! Karol, what the hell are you doing!?” Riya is rightfully horrified.
“Shhh, you’ll startle them.” Karol pulls a roll of convenient bandages out of her coat pocket, quickly wrapping the injured leg.
Riya looks at Karol like she has 2 heads, “What, are you a veterinarian back home?”
Karol seems uniquely calm, “I’ve taken care of wolves before, animals don’t judge me like people do.” Karol’s mind goes back to the current injury, “I don’t know where the blood came from; the wound wasn’t bleeding.” Karol brings this up to Riya
Riya thinks for a minute, “It’s probably just from one of its kills, we need to get back to camp anyways.” Karol finds this explanation plausible enough.
…
We see the Purple team around the fire, Connor attempting to cook the fish, with Riya assisting, while Hunter pulls out a card to ask what Tess’s favorite band is, Ally is playing on her switch alone since Hunter is busy, and Kai takes the chance to talk with Karol as a fellow nature enthusiast.
“Namaste.” Kai welcomes, Karol would already rather die than have this conversation, but that attitude is the reason she’s on Purple in the first place she quiets those thoughts.
“What is it, Kai?” Karol only sounds a third as annoyed as she usually does.
Kai tries to string his thoughts together, “You seem the most connected with nature out of our teammates; your aura is a rather deep red.”
“Look, I know you’re big into this aura stuff, but if this is all you want to talk about-“ Karol starts with a subdued version of what she wants to say.
“Have you noticed any changes in the forest? It’s felt less lively the longer we’ve been here.” Kai finally gets to the damn point.
“Well, yes, actually.” Karol seems to actually put some stake into what Kai’s getting at, “It shouldn’t be overly shocking, though, we’re essentially an invasive species, not a shocker they’d avoid us.”
Kai still looks shaken, “You don’t think the producers are doing anything?”
“This is a professionally put-together TV show, not a dark web series hosted by eco-terrorists.” Karol dismisses the worry. “I’m sure the animals will adjust.” Karol hopes the wolf in the forest was just a one-off.
Any response Kai could have said is cut off by the intercoms.
“Hey campers! It's challenge time.” Trevor calls the contestants to the challenge site.
…
Cut to the Challenge (Obviously)
The Teal & Purple teams walk out, with Kai, Connor, Riya, and Ally smiling at Yul’s absence while Hunter seems sad, and Tess doesn’t give a fuck.
“Welcome to your challenge!” Trevor welcomes them to the challenge in case you’re suffering from Alzheimer’s or just haven’t read the last 3 lines: “Today, we will test your ability to face your worst fears.”
“We've been doing a bit of research on each of you, and I have to say we've found some interesting stuff...or should I say scary?” Derek introduces the concept of the challenge.
“Here's how it works. You'll go through the maze behind me. On your journey, you will encounter several doors, accompanied by a picture of one of your teammates. To continue, that teammate has to go through the door and face the fear inside. If they succeed, you may continue on your way. Are you ready?” Derek exposits how the challenge works.
Trevor takes over, “Don't worry, I'll be here to support you at all times! If you decide not to face the fear, that's fine, you’ll just have to wait a little longer to continue.”
“It's not a little long, in fact, you will have to wait 30 minutes. In case you decide not to face the challenge, you must mark the X, and you will have to wait as a penalty. The first team to reach the other side gets immunity and reward. So, get ready to show your courage and conquer your fears!” Trevor neglects to mention what they’re competing for.
Derek helps out, “Whatever...today's reward is… An extra waterproof camping tent. The rain could start at any time, so it will definitely help the hypothermia. If there’s no questions, I will give each team a map of the maze where you can find the doors.” Nobody has any questions, they never do.
“This challenge starts now!” Trevor starts the challenge. We love exposition.
Both teams run into their respective mazes; it’s the challenge.
…
“Come on team! We cannot lose another reward.” Lake attempts to motivate the Teal team to their first success, they’ve flopped a lot lately.
They arrive at their first gate, and Teal gets to start off with James’ challenge.
Jensen’s scratchy voice comes from the speaker, “Fear of Bulls; you must enter a pen with one for 5 minutes.
“What is this crap? I’m not afraid of bulls.” James blatantly lies.
“Then what’s the holdup?” Lake asks the obviously lying James a question.
Aiden notices James’ nerves and pulls him aside, “We can’t risk losing another challenge, we’re on the complete outside strategically.”
James sighs, “Fine, I’m doing it.” Selecting the green checkmark and avoiding any eye contact with the bull as he pulls himself into the wooden pen.
Confessional: Lake
“He was obviously lying.” Lake clocks him immediately. James is devastated that everyone saw through him. “If we lose, I’m pretty sure my alliance will want to vote for James.”
Conf End
We cut to the Purple team, where Hunter’s challenge is leading them off. “Fear of being alone…you must spend 20 minutes alone in this soundproof cell.”
“Huh?!!” Hunter looks uncomfortable.
‘C’mon, this one’s easy.” Karol encourages Hunter in the most backhanded way possible.
Hunter quickly presses the red X. “I’m sorry, I just can’t do it.” Hunter avoids looking at his disappointed teammates.
Karol looks irritated, while Tess is finally showing a facial expression that almost looks like sympathy.
Confessional: Karol
“Ugh.” Karol looks ready to complain, but stops herself, taking a deep breath to calm herself. “I cannot start making enemies on this team. Yul being eliminated is a huge wake-up call. I need to make good use of this second chance.”
Conf End
…
We see James holding onto the fence with trembling arms. Aiden tries to encourage him, “Just 1 minute left, you're doing great.”
James sighs in annoyance, the bull slowly moving towards the strange human that entered its space.
Aiden takes the chance to talk to Lake, returning the book he found.
“Hey, Lake, you dropped this outside the tent. I didn’t know you were a writer.” Aiden takes the chance to build inroads with one of the girls.
Lake nervously rubs her arm, “I don't. It's simply a silly hobby. You didn’t read it, did you?”
“Of course not, I didn’t want to be intrusive.” Aiden avoids offending her.
“You’re welcome to read it if you want to, just be careful with it.” Lake changes up her tone at Aiden not looking through her things.
Confessional: Aiden
“After Oliver decided to lie to me about the vote, I’m pretty desperate for an ally, and Lake seems like a good choice.” Aiden realizes he sounds like a game bot, “The reading material is definitely a nice bonus, though.”
Conf End
…
Tess takes a seat next to Hunter, as they have a while until the penalty wears off. “Are you alright?” Tess tries to make her voice sound nicer.
Hunter just pulls his knees closer, “It’s embarrassing, I’m scared of being alone, and I make myself the loser who can’t face his fear either.” Hunter facepalms.
Tess thinks for a minute, “Why do you think we’d judge you? Odds are you won’t be the only person that can’t face your fear, isn’t that by design?”
Hunter is surprisingly comforted. Tess hasn’t really been the comforting type out here.
“Penalty’s up, we need to get moving, people!” Karol urges.
The Purple team arrives at their next stop, which winds up being Riya’s challenge.
“Fear of being forgotten…you must forfeit the confessional for the rest of the season.” Riya looks immediately horrified.
“Hell no! I’m taking the penalty.” Riya quickly hits the red x which ages Karol another 5 years. “I didn’t come out here just to be set dressing.”
Confessional: Riya
“What were those producers thinking? I came out here to grow my image.” Riya says in annoyance. “I hope the team isn’t upset with me, but there’s no way I was doing that, I’d rather be buried alive with rats.”
Conf End
Tess nudges Hunter, who seems to be doing better, while the team seems generally nervous to have stopped twice in a row.
Karol tries to nicely get everyone on the same page: “These fears are hard, but we can’t keep taking penalties like cowards; we’ll lose for sure if we keep doing this.”
Tess scowls at Karol’s criticism, “We'd better see that attitude when it’s time for your challenge.”
“Hey! Now isn’t the time for fighting. We’re a bit behind, but we’re still in this.” Connor tries to end the beef and get everyone motivated.
Kai goes back to meditating while Ally tries to chat with Hunter & Tess, but finds it awkward while Karol talks with her fellow dinosaurs.
…
We see the Teal team well ahead, having completed their first door, at Oliver’s portion of the challenge. “Fear of going back to your old life…You must call Kristoff McLean and beg for your old job back.”
Oliver looks more horrified than ever before. Aiden tries to offer some encouragement. “It’s just acting, Oliver. We need to win this challenge.”
Aiden’s words are for nothing as Oliver presses the X with shaky hands. “I can’t do it!”
“WTF, Oliver, that was an easy one.” James glares at the man who voted Yul out.
Oliver looks ashamed as his penalty clock starts, and James begins to regret voting out Karol over this continuously flopping loser.
Rosa Maria just sighs, “Nothing to be done about it now, we’ll just wait out the penalty.” While Rosa doesn’t love Oliver passing the challenge, she isn’t anywhere near a fan of James either.
Having some downtime for once, Rosa Maria takes the chance to talk to Maggy about what’s on her mind. “I thought you said Aiden was on board to vote for Yul.” Rosa tries to keep the edge out of her voice but fails.
Maggy looks apologetic, “He said he would. I didn’t think he’d lie to me about it. I’m really, really sorry, Rosa.”
Rosa Maria still looks annoyed, but she knows there’s nothing to be done about it. Rosa decides to try to learn about Lake & Maggy while she has the opportunity.
“Any boys you two like?” Rosa dares to bring up romance despite her team only having Aiden, who’s gay, James, who’s obnoxious, and Oliver, who’s in his late 20’s. There was Yul, too, but he was also definitely not into women.
“Boys? No. My interests align elsewhere.” Lake starts, “Besides, it wouldn't matter if there was someone here I liked. I'm arranged to be wedded… to a man.”
Rosa Maria looks horrified. “What! You’re only 16, Hell it’s an arranged marriage, it wouldn’t be okay if you were 18!”
Lake takes a minute to compose herself, “The age of consent in Germany is 16, he comes from a prestigious family, so… my family will be happy. My happiness isn’t a factor.” Lake explains matter-of-factly. “I've long mourned the life where I'm with someone I love, but it's OK. I've accepted this.”
Rosa Maria continues to look horrified by Lake, justifying the decision her parents made for her. “How can you let your parents walk all over you?!”
Lake looks miffed, “They don’t control me. I just owe it to them.”
Aiden overhears this because he isn’t deaf, while James is scrolling through anything on his phone that he doesn’t need a signal for. Oliver also overhears it, but does nothing.
“That doesn’t sound healthy.” Aiden tries to cut in.
“Don’t talk about my life like you know anything about it. I don’t need to stand up to them!” Lake seems upset with the confrontation.
“Fine! Keep being their perfect doll!” Rosa shouts.
Lake looks furious while Rosa immediately looks apologetic.
“Lake, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean—” Rosa Maria tries to take it back, sensing her approach isn’t helping.
“This conversation is over. Our penalty is up; we’re moving on.” Lake storms off while James looks excited to finally have drama on the tea.
Confessional: James
“This is just the blowup that Aiden and I needed.” James smirks, “Rosa should’ve gone over Yul. I wonder if he’ll be happy to see her.”
Conf End
Confessional: Rosa Maria
“Why did I say that?!” Rosa sounds exasperated, “Lake isn’t okay, but I should’ve handled it better, me and my big mouth.”
Conf End
…
Purple arrives at their newest gate after back-to-back penalties, with Ally’s gate up next. “Fear of illness…you must spend 10 minutes in the hospital.”
Ally looks nervous, but presses the check mark, finally earning a smile from Karol, who is glad to not have incompetent morons for teammates.
“Wonder why she’s scared of hospitals?” Hunter wonders shortly after she leaves.
Connor gives a guess, “Could be surgery-related trauma, my appendix ruptured back in ’05.”
Ally rubs her left shoulder while sitting on a plastic-lined exam table, the whole place dredging up bad memories, her grandfather’s cancer announcement being the one she remembers best.
…
While Ally waits out her challenge, we cut to the Teal team arriving at Maggy’s gate. We know the drill by now.
Jensen’s Scottish voice rings through the speaker, “Fear of dogs…you must pet the 2 rottweilers behind this gate.” Jensen’s eyebrows knit into a scowl at someone disliking his favorite animal.
Maggy looks terrified, but off the heels of Oliver letting the team down, presses the check mark. Nervously approaching the large beasts.
James just sighs, hoping Maggy doesn’t back out of this like the other Khia, “FML, it’s just a dog.”
Lake offers some encouragement, “They don’t look aggressive, don’t let their size psyche you out.”
Maggy is reflective, memory replaying the hike into camp where Oliver read her size as a threat, nervously extending her hand and completing her challenge anti-climactically.
Confessional: Maggy
“That wasn’t so bad.” Maggy is proud of herself. “I’m not sure who the girls would want to take out if we lose, but James is just plain mean…Aiden did cause me some trouble with Rosa, though.”
Conf End
…
Avoiding a montage to showcase all the fears, Connor’s next up for Purple.
“Fear of aging…you must dress your age.”
Connor looks embarrassed, but he’s gotten more comfortable with being the old one, pressing the green check.
Connor arrives in a dressing room, filled with business clothes, dress shoes, and thick glasses that he’s technically supposed to be wearing. Scoffing at the adult diaper, Connor exits in his more age-appropriate fit.
Karol, Riya, and Hunter struggle not to laugh as Ally looks sad, while Kai & Tess don’t really react to it.
Confessional: Connor
“I couldn’t let the team down; a bit of humility can take a fellow a long way.”
Conf End
Teal arrives to their next challenge, with it being Aiden’s turn on the block.
“Fear of heights…you must go skydiving.”
Aiden bites his lip before selecting the X to James’ annoyance.
“What happened to needing to win this challenge?” James questions sarcastically with his hands on his hips.
Aiden just holds himself, “I know, I just…can’t.” Aiden looks to be on the verge of tears, “Heights just freak me out.”
James softens at the vulnerability, sighing before speaking, “It’s fine, not everyone can be fearless like The James Costa.” James flexes, making Aiden chuckle.
…
We’ve got 5 challenges left, so we quickly cut to Purple while Teal’s facing their penalty with Karol’s turn to face her fear.
“Fear of hurting animals…you must remove the divider to the cage behind the door.”
Karol’s face darkens as Tess & Hunter look at the older woman expectantly, pressing the green check with a heavy sigh.
“Okay, what exactly do I do?” Karol wonders as she approaches a rabbit cage where a plastic divider separates the creature from a large snake on the other end, her role in things obvious.
“It’s just the circle of life,” Karol mutters to herself, lifting the divider and exiting the section before having to watch.
Purple Team seems surprised, seeing the normally harsh Karol with her shoulders slumped in sadness, moving on to their next challenge with Kai & Tess aware that the next gate is one of theirs.
The next gate winds up belonging to Tess.
“Fear of Orphanages…you must last 10 minutes inside.”
Tess has a visibly upset look on her face, and while the entire team seems a bit uncomfortable, the silent judgment to accept the challenge felt written clear as day on most of their faces.
“You don’t have to do this if it’s too much.” Hunter tries to return her prior comfort.
Riya takes a second to collect herself, “You don’t have to, but if you can…” The silence is telling.
“I’m pretty sure I know what I am and am not okay with.” Tess presses the check mark, walking towards the replica building.
Tess enters the dingy-looking building, gray walls and beige ceiling riddled with holes; the room is small enough that she can touch all 4 walls from the center. The room is cold; Tess can hear rain rattling against the gutter despite the cloudless sky.
Tess moves to sit down, drawing her knees to her chest. It’s just 10 minutes. She tries to take deep breaths, but they come out shallow and uneven. Luckily, before she can start crying, the timer goes off, ending her portion of the challenge.
Tess picks herself up, being met by her team outside, “Are you doing okay?” Hunter moves to put a hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t touch me.” Tess pulls back, “Let’s just finish this challenge.” Tess resumes her usual deadpan expression.
Confessional: Tess
Tess rubs her eyes, “I shouldn’t have signed up for this. My head feels like it’s filled with concrete.”
Conf End
…
Aiden’s penalty finally wears off, and Teal gets to move on to Rosa Maria’s fear-based challenge.
“Fear of driving…you must complete this go-kart course.” Jensen seems visibly worn out by all of the lame fears.
Rosa Maria looks nervous, but selects the check mark after not much thought, too far behind to risk it. A normal fear on the list for a change.
“You can do this!” Maggy cheers from the sidelines, the only one to do so, as the rest of the Teal team isn’t exactly overflowing in the team spirit department.
Rosa Maria takes a deep breath before fastening her seat belt and driving as if there is any traffic on the road.
“FML, move with some urgency, woman!” James encourages her to go faster.
Rosa adjusts a bit, trying to not slam into any parked cars, mailboxes, or pedestrians. Thankfully, since this is a fear test instead of a driver’s test, the rest goes without a hitch.
Confessional: Rosa Maria
“I haven’t driven in a while. Not since I crashed into a light post on my way home after picking Sofia up from daycare.” Rosa Maria casually describes her traumatic experience. “I haven’t driven since, thank the Lord and whoever invented airbags.”
Conf End
…
The Purple team arrives at their final gate, and if you’ve been paying attention, then you know it’s Kai turn.
“Kai hurry!” Karol tries to hurry him up.
Jensen’s voice cuts in, static breaking up, making it appear to be live, “Fear of losing control…tell everyone your real thoughts over Yul.”
“Huh?” Riya looks baffled while Kai has a dejected look on his face.
“Were you into him…like romantically?” Ally immediately assumes that Yaoi is the solution.
Kai collects himself, “I’m not supposed to release too much negative energy, I swore to cleanse my soul of those impure thoughts.” Kai does not deny Ally’s claim.
“Yul isn’t even here anymore, and even if he was, it’s fucking Yul!” Riya does not understand how someone could pass up the opportunity to insult that twink.
“I’m sorry, Yul may be a miserable human being, but I cannot grind his soul into nothing for my own pleasure.” Kai hits the red X, to the annoyance of just about everyone.
Confessional: Kai
Kai sits in the confessional with his legs crossed, “I have long desired to clear my soul of negative vices.” Kai looks nervous, “I hope my team is willing to understand my point of view.”
Conf End
Teal finally arrives at their last gate, unaware it’s the last thing standing between them and immunity. It’s Lake’s challenge.
“Lake, we need you to do this.” Aiden urges Lake to not blow the challenge for them. We’ll ignore how if Aiden had done his challenge, they’d have already won.
“Fear of disappointing your parents…you must vent your grievances.” Jensen just sounds confused reading it. The Gen 2 Cast and their lack of normal fears.
Lake already has an apologetic look on her face, “Sorry, team, there’s just no way I can speak ill of my- “
“Lake!” Rosa Maria cuts her off, “You can’t possibly be acting like this and still think your life is normal!”
“I can’t talk about my parents like that, Rosa.” Lake pinches the bridge of her nose.
“If you didn’t have any grievances, this wouldn’t be your challenge. Why on Earth are you still defending them!”
James presses the check mark on Lake’s screen as the fight resumes.
“Of course, I don’t like everything about my life! Nobody does!” Lake only begins her rant. “I don’t enjoy studying until my hair falls out and my fingers bleed, I don’t enjoy being married off to a man I’ve never met! I do it because I owe it to them to be a good daughter!”
Lake finishes her rant, and everyone looks uncomfortable with the honesty. Rosa Maria looks like she wants to say something, but the gate opens to both girls' confusion.
“C’mon, we finished people, move!” James gets the team on the same page.
“Teal team wins immunity and reward!” Trevor finishes this long challenge.
The Purple team looks frustrated at their efforts falling short. They don’t get to sit with their collective failure for long, as Trevor pipes up.
“Purple Team, we'll see you at the elimination, where we'll have the second person kicked out of Disventure Camp.” Trevor sends Purple to do their pre-elimination scramble.
Confessional: Karol
“Kai may have blown it at the end, but he wouldn’t have been in that position if Hunter & Riya didn’t fall short as well. Regardless, I’ve got a different target in mind.”
Conf End
Confessional: Ally
“It’s game over for one of us for real tonight.” Ally looks sad, “I don’t think I’ll catch votes at least.”
Conf End
Cut to Purple Team
We see Karol gather her allies, Connor and Riya, taking them aside under the guise of gathering firewood.
Connor clears his throat, “So which of the others are we voting for tonight?”
“I’m thinking we target Tess.” Karol bluntly states.
“Uh, are you sure? She did her challenge today, isn’t that kinda harsh?” Connor seems hesitant.
“She delivered today, but she contributes almost nothing around camp, and didn’t do particularly well in the first or second challenge,” Karol explains her thought process.
Riya seems to agree with Karol’s reasoning, “Connor, we can’t judge Tess on one good performance. I think we should vote for Tess.”
Karol nods, “You on board, old timer? She seems like a good kid, but this just isn’t the right environment for her.” Karol tries to appeal to his emotions.
Connor still seems unsure, “Okay, if you 2 think it’s the right call.”
Confessional: Connor
“It sucks, but Karol made some good points, it just sucks she’ll be stuck at the motel with Yul.” Connor grimaces

Confessional: Karol
“I’m glad Riya had my back during that talk, Connor’s gotta get his head in the game.”

We see Tess sitting in her sleeping bag, looking restless. She doesn’t get to be alone for long as Hunter joins her.
Hunter fidgets with his hands before speaking, “Are you doing okay?”
Tess sighs heavily. “I don’t know if coming out here was a good idea.”
Hunter sighs too, “I know this isn’t a great time, but we need to talk about the vote. You could be catching some votes.”
“I’d like to vote for Karol; she reminds me of one of my old foster parents.” Tess offers a suggestion.
“It might be a hard sell, but we need to get other people on board. Karol’s basically the team leader.” Hunter doesn’t seem confident. “I’ll talk to Connor & Ally; do you think you can get Kai on board?”
Tess nods, still feeling sluggish, and both exit the tent to have their talks.
…
We see Hunter talking to Connor. Connor already looks uncomfortable.
“Do you think you can vote for Karol tonight?” Hunter seems a bit desperate.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help you, Hunter.” Connor feels remorseful despite not doing anything yet. “Karol’s an asset around camp; Tess just doesn’t contribute enough.”
Hunter sighs, “I get it, I just don’t want Tess leaving tonight.”
Connor puts a hand on Hunter’s shoulder, “She’ll be there for you outside the game. I’m sorry, but I already agreed not to vote for Karol.”
Confessional: Hunter
Hunter looks awkward, “Ugh, looks like we’ll need both Ally & Kai on board, I’m hoping Tess’s game isn’t buried. She’s one of the only people I’ve connected with, even though Connor blew me off for this vote anyways.”
Conf End
We see Tess approaching a meditating Kai and gaming Ally by the campfire.
“Hey Kai, do you have a second?” Tess asks with almost a tenth of a single iota of urgency.
Kai nods, seeming to catch that she wants to talk about the elimination. “Of course.”
They make it about 20 steps into the woods before Tess deems it far enough.
“So, would you be up for voting out Karol tonight? She might be good in challenges, but she’s overbearing and grating on my last nerve out here.” Tess makes her pitch.
“…I’m unsure, this camp is littered with tortured souls, I don’t want to deny anyone the chance to grow out here.” Kai ponders the request.
“Is that a no?” Tess looks sadder than usual.
“I’ll consider it. I think I need to pray on this matter.” Kai seems genuine despite the non-answer.
Tess just nods, hoping whatever God he’s praying to has her best interests in mind.
…
Hunter, meanwhile, approaches Ally, “Do you think you could vote for Karol tonight?” Hunter bluntly asks.
“Oh, uh, sure. Is anyone else getting targeted?” Ally is painfully aware nobody has been talking game with her.
“Karol & Connor seem to be voting Tess, and Riya’s probably voting with Connor, but I want to keep her around.” Hunter tries to relay what he knows. “Tess is talking to Kai. I was hoping you’d be the 4th vote.”
Ally smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes, “Yeah, I’ll think it over. I want to hear what Kai’s thinking too, though.”
Confessional: Hunter
“Is everyone here just allergic to straight answers?” Hunter shouts into the confessional void.
Conf End
…
We see Ally approaching Kai, who’s moved his prayer circle to the middle of the forest for some reason.
“Player 2 has joined the game!” Ally greets; Kai just smiles and doesn’t address the cringe.
“What brought your soul here?” Kai questions.
“Has anyone talked to you about the vote? I think we’re in the middle.” Ally gets straight to the point, not particularly interested in hearing platitudes for the next hour.
Kai tenses up, “Tess & Karol want each other out, I connect with both of them on a spiritual level, but I’m inclined to side with Tess.”
Confessional: Ally
“Damn it! I’m in the middle; this is just like when I had to choose to save Doug or Carley in the drugstore in Telltale's The Walking Dead. My Twitch comments got so angry that I saved Doug.” Ally wipes her hands on her pants, “ I don’t want anyone to be mad at me for not siding with them.”
Conf End
As Ally starts to walk back to camp, she’s stopped by Karol.
“I want to talk to you about tonight’s elimination,” Karol tells Ally her intentions. “I think you should vote for Tess.”
Ally blinks at the blunt NPC interaction, “I’m not sure, I’m not super close with Tess, but Hunter doesn’t want her gone.”
Ally moves to walk away, but Karol grabs her arm, “I’m not oblivious to being a target, but I think you need to consider it.”
Ally seems confused, sitting down to hear the rest of Karol's pitch.
“Hunter’s way closer with Tess than he’ll ever be with you, did he even ask if you wanted Karol out, or was that Tess’s target?” Karol pries.
“Uhhh” Ally inadvertently answers the question.
“If you want to be Hunter’s number one ally, you need Tess out of this camp, otherwise you’ll just be the third wheel to their group, maybe their fourth if Kai is with them.” Karol outlines some reasons to take out Tess. “She doesn’t seem particularly close to you either. Once I’m gone, she might decide she’s not all too willing to work with you either, and Hunter might side with her.”
Ally looks overwhelmed, “I’ll think about it.” Karol lets her walk off this time.
Confessional: Ally
‘Well, this isn’t great. but I’m glad to be in the power position, I guess.” Ally is nervous, “I know Hunter wants me to vote for Karol, but I haven’t connected with Tess at all.” Ally says this like her & Karol are besties. “Ugh! This is harder than my last Fortnite gauntlet.”

Cut to the Campfire Ceremony
“Welcome to your first elimination, you sorry saps.” Derek taunts the Purple Team.
“Here’s how it works: one by one, you must go to the voting booth, write the name of the person you want to vote out, and deposit it in the ballot box. Get voting!” Derek explains the perfectly simple voting system.
…
“You’re my best bet at keeping Tess around, sorry Karol.” Hunter looks apologetic while holding his vote for Karol.
“With any luck, you’ll be the one going home, I hope I convinced Ally otherwise I’m stuck with Yul for a week.” Karol looks at the camera grimly with her vote for Tess.
We get a quick cut of Ally, Connor, Kai, Riya, and Tess voting before going back to the campfire.
“You have cast your votes, now I'll make your decision final. The person with the most votes must leave the camp. If someone has an immunity totem, they will need to present it before the votes are read, then all votes for the player the totem is used on will be nullified.” Trevor waits for a second in case an idol gets played.
Nobody stands.
…
“1st vote…Karol”
Karol just sighs.
“2nd vote..Tess”
Tess also doesn’t look surprised.
“3rd vote…Karol”
…
“4th vote…Tess. That’s 2 votes Karol, 2 votes Tess.”
…
“5th vote…Tess”
Hunter has a nervous look as Trevor’s hands dip into the urn again.
“6th vote…Karol”
Karol’s eyes widen while Tess continues to not react. Hunter has his fingers crossed while Riya looks reluctantly hopeful.
“2nd person voted out of Disventure Camp…”
…
…
…
…
…
…
…
…
….
“Tess!”
Karol lets out a breath she didn’t notice she was holding, Tess just sighs, standing up while Hunter shoots an annoyed look at Kai.
“Well, I guess that’s it then.” Tess doesn’t seem surprised
Hunter stands up to hug her before she walks to the bus stop, “Sorry, I couldn’t get the team to save you.”
“It’s fine, really.” Tess walks off, not in the mood for conversation while Ally looks at the ground in guilt.
Confessional: Ally
“I hope this was the right move…” Ally still seems unsure of herself.

Confessional: Karol
“That was way too close for comfort, but at least I’m still here. With Connor & Riya I control half the team, and something tells me Hunter won’t be all too pleased that Ally flipped on Tess.” Karol smirks, confident for the future.
Conf End
Confessional: Kai
“I can’t help but feel a disturbance in the universe.” Kai warns ominously, “It’s a shame Ally didn’t vote seem to join us in the vote, but the other disturbances are growing hard to ignore.

We see a flashback to a more casually dressed Derek & Trevor, about a month before the show started
"Do you think everything is ready for the season?" Trevor asks Derek in excitement, who just looks bored.
"There's just one thing in our way, but don't worry, I hired someone to take care of it." Derek shows Trevor a piece of paper, causing the latter to look worried.
"Jensen?"
“He’s the best man for the job.” Derek says ominously.
…
…
…
We see Tess sitting in the bus of losers, tracing drawings into the seat in front of her, before the camera interrupts her peace. “I’m supposed to thank the viewers for their engagement; we appreciate the support.”
“maika_aa…I wish you were right in your predictions, Kai’s cool.”
“Sapphire_bird_n89…Maggy does sound like a toxic bully.”
“supersonic34…Ugh I just remembered I’m going to be stuck at the motel with Yul.”
“TheDrama100…I guess my exit probably gagged some people.”
“Monir2004…I'm not sure how you're shocked Yul left, now I'm stuck with the guy."
Voting Confessionals:
Ally takes a deep breath before grabbing the pen, “Hunter’s my closest connection…But I just haven’t had a good interaction with you, and I suck at being fake” Ally hesitantly writes Tess on the paper, “Please be the right choice.”
Connor simply writes Tess down, “It sucks having to vote anyone out, but I’m sticking with my word to Karol. You seem like a good kid. This vote isn’t personal by any means.”
“You’re my best bet at keeping Tess around, sorry Karol.” Hunter looks apologetic while holding his vote for Karol.
Kai looks thoughtful, “We share a love of nature, but I think Tess will get more out of the experience. Maybe we can keep in touch after the season ends.” Kai flashes his vote for Karol.
“With any luck, you’ll be the one going home, I hope I convinced Ally otherwise I’m stuck with Yul for a week.” Karol looks at the camera grimly with her vote for Tess.
“You don’t even seem to want to be here, no offense.” Riya shows the camera her vote for Tess. “This wasn’t a hard choice for me; you & Hunter didn’t even bother pitching to me.” Riya places her vote inside the urn with some annoyance.
“I think it’ll be best for me if you’re the one that leaves, you dredge up too many bad memories.” Tess holds her vote for Karol.
Vote Count:
Tess: 4 votes (Ally, Connor, Karol, and Riya)
Karol: 3 votes (Hunter, Kai, and Tess)
