Summary
Kip just hummed non-committally, his eyes off. Scott early on noticed Kip’s so-called ‘off-eyes’. There were multiple; half-closed lids and barely looking, the tired ones; staring straight ahead, seeing but not noticing, never moving, the depressed ones; not meeting Scott’s gaze, looking anywhere but him, the hurt ones. The ones Kip now had, however, were the overwhelmed ones. He looked down, at his plate, rarely made eye contact, said too little, but when being addressed, he said too much.
