Work Text:
Marinette’s day could not get any stranger. She had been given a special set of earrings, a miraculous, and subsequently been scared half to death by a flying tiny creature. A “Kwami” it called itself.
She tested out her new powers on a civilian who had been Akumatized, freeing them from the thrall and putting Paris back to the way it was before. It was truely amazing what she could do with these new abilities. Marinette just wished she had someone to share it with. Solving the puzzle and releasing the Akuma was difficult, and a lot for her to do on her own, some help would have been appreciated to take down the monster.
She paced back and forth in her room then called her new Kwami, Tikki, to ask a few questions.
“Tikki” she began “are you the only Kwami that exists?”
The little red creature giggled as if she had asked something silly.
“No Marinette, of course not! There are many miraculous, each tied to a Kwami, but you have been chosen to wield one of the strongest of all, the Ladybug Miraculous. The only other comparable to it’s power is the cat miraculous.”
The small creature looked lost in thought as she continued.
“I thought he would show up today.”
Marinette studied Tikki closely.
“Him?” She questioned.
Tikki’s attention was drawn back to Marinette.
“Yes, sorry, it’s just that the wielder of the cat Miraculous should have been able to help you defeat the Akuma today. I’m sure you will meet him the next time you have to use your powers.” She explained.
“Oh! That’s a relief.” Marinette responded. “It will be nice to have someone to share… this… with” she made a gesture with her arms.
Tikki smiled “I can’t wait for you to meet him!”
After brushing her teeth and washing her face, Marinette got in bed and dreamed about Akumas, Kwamis, and… cats.
…
It was the second Akumatized villain she was facing, Marinette parried an attack, landing on her feet but pinwheeling her arms around to stay balanced. Where was that kitty? Tiki had said that he was bound to show up when she was facing the second Akumatized villain, but here she was, fighting against the titan alone.
She deflected another blow, her yoyo being knocked out of her hand in the process, just to hear a low whistle come from somewhere above.
“Nice work, Milady.” She chanced a glance up to the Paris rooftops, spotting a blond man clad head to toe in black leather, with -bingo- black cat ears.
“Cat!” She called “I think his Akuma is in his glasses, I need your help!” She lunged out of the way of another attack, eyes scanning the ground for her yo-yo.
“Oh, I know where it’s Akuma is.” The cat called from above.
Marinette didn't have time to watch, but heard the kitty jump down from the rooftops. After an unsuccessful search for her yo-yo, she finally turned her eyes back to the boy. The boy with her yo-yo in his hand.
“You found it!” She exclaimed. “Pass it over so that we can defeat the Akuma.” She said, holding her hand out expectantly.
“I’m sorry, I won’t be helping you defeat the Akuma, and I can’t give this back.”
Marinettes eyes widened in shock, who did this guy think he was? Did he want to fight the Akuma by himself?
“What are you talking about? We’re supposed to rescue Akumatized civilians together.”
The cat started walking in a lazy semicircle around her, coming to stop before the Akumatized villain.
“There’s only one civilian I need to save. And this isn’t her.”
Marinette didn't like the tone of his voice, didn't like the way the Akumatized villain seemed to wait for his command
“Ladybug, I need your Miraculous.”
