There’s no bell over the door to Pop’s anymore. The only warning FP gets when someone enters is a cold, unexpected gust of winter air. FP glances up to see Fred Andrews entering the diner, stamping snow off of his boots and hooking his hands around his elbows to keep the heat in.

FP Jones is nine years old and has never had a Christmas tree. His parents can't afford one, especially this year, with his father out of work. His best friend Fred Andrews has a huge Christmas tree, a loving family, and a Flying Arrow toboggan to unwrap on Christmas Day.
The only thing the two friends have in common is that neither of their fathers believe in handouts.
But both of their mothers believe in Christmas.

Summary
Every year, Andrews Construction raises a charity tree, decorated with the wishes of children in need. With FP in prison, and Gladys somewhere in Toledo, Jughead and Jellybean's wishes will be on the tree for the first time - as foster kids, they have the privilege of writing out what they want most on white tags and hoping a kind stranger will take pity on them. Trouble is, the only thing Jughead wants doesn't come from a store.
The only thing Jughead wants is for Archie Andrews to love him back.

(Especially Alice Smith, who scared Hal the most, even though FP was the one who took the cookies out of his lunch every day.)
