Well, thinks Nerdanel. Well. It isn’t as if she has much faith in her own sons’ abilities to make decisions now, not after she spent a lifetime trying to instill independence in them and they all still followed their father into the teeth of ruin and grief.
[The fix-it fic where Nerdanel, Anairë and Eärwen sneak out of Aman to steal some Silmarils because wars don't always need to be won by armies.]

Summary
I have survived the terrifying before, she says. And I will not surrender to my fate before it is done: I spit on your inevitability.
[In thirty-three centuries, twenty-five women dreamed of the sea in fair Númenor. Of these twenty-five, eighteen were crowned queens. Seven names lived on in history. Three ruled in their own right. All dreamt of death and destruction.
A story of terror and defiance; a story of despair and hope; a story of seas and mountains and the women who knew the future far before they could ever understand it.]

Summary
“I don’t regret it,” says Aredhel quietly. “I have a son from all of this that I would never have had otherwise. I had a life that I would never have had otherwise. It was painful and it was short and it ended awfully and it was mine, mine in grief and mine in glory both.”
[Aredhel returns to life, but finds that her son is nowhere to be found- not in the Halls, not in Lorien, not in Aman, and certainly not in Beleriand. Her search for him leads her to reconcile with family she hasn't seen since the Darkening, to fight with the Valar that she once abandoned, to rescue the kin she swore never to abide, and to defy the evil that once slaughtered her father, but Aredhel's never been one to back down from challenges, whether they be her raging mother or a rampaging Morgoth.]

Summary
If she closes her eyes and lets her imagination take her, she can imagine they’re in Sirion once more, Idril and her golden-haired son, and that he’s stepped outside- gone to wash the dust from his hair, that hair that he was always so particular about- that he’ll be back any moment, smiling that crooked smile that he inherited from his father.
[Earendil chooses mortality. Idril, in the great tradition of her ancestors, chooses violence.]
