Summary
The last thing that Yunan had expected for her Sunday afternoon was to be here, in her apartment, face to face with a soaked child.
And yet, here she is.

“Jeez, think that’ll be enough?” Yunan picks up one of the shopping bags, grimacing at the contents of… is that just a ton of cans of chicken noodle soup? “I mean, really, we can just get takeout-”
“-takeout is no way to properly feed a child!” Olivia glances over at Marcy and the stuck-up look in her eyes - the one that suggests she thinks she knows best, the look that had driven Yunan nuts when they lived together - fades a little, smoothing into something that could be called concern. “Look at her, Yunan, she’s so thin. We have to make sure she’s properly fed.”
“We?”

Summary
Olivia finally looks up, but instead of looking at Yunan, she looks at Marcy, who has stopped copying Yunan and is digging into her cheerios once more. The gaze lingers for awhile before she sighs, her shoulders slumping out of her prissy, perfect posture.
“I don’t know if there’s a point for me to renew it,” she says, still watching Marcy eat instead of looking at Yunan. “I mean, it’s not like I spend any time there anymore. I’m always here.”
Oh.
“Then don’t,” Yunan blurts, quickly, her mouth moving far quicker than her brain. “I mean, that’s why you’re dancing around it, right? Don’t waste your money, Liv. Just stay here.”

“Miss Yunan?” Marcy looks nervous, playing with her hands as she stares resolutely at the floor. “Can we… uh. Can I go to the park?”
Marcy has never once asked to go outside the apartment before. In fact, the few times that Olivia had gently suggested that they go out - for a nice dinner, or to buy Marcy some things - Marcy would violently refuse, shaking her head insistently and bursting into tears if pushed. Considering how she still acts like she’s going to be tossed onto the streets with one wrong move, Yunan can’t help but empathize; she’d never force the kid to go out if she didn’t want to.
And yet, here they are.

Any dance proposal has to be big to woo her.”
“So, I’m gonna have to think of something big, and creative! It has to be the best dance proposal in the history of dance proposals!”
“Marcy,” Olivia starts, and when Marcy glances up, her mom looks very confused, “are you sure this is really necessary?”

Summary
It happens a year after they adopt Marcy.
Yunan doesn’t know what, exactly, she was expecting when she opened the door to the apartment. She doesn’t really get many visitors; Olivia’s moms had visited at one point, and Yunan’s had some colleagues over after moving all of her sponsorship meetings to virtual-only. Not nearly enough to warrant being unsurprised by a visit, though, and seeing how it’s the middle of the day on a sunny June Wednesday, she doesn’t know what to expect.
Well. Certainly not a teenager, hair tied in a ponytail and bleached at the tips, eyes downcast and guilt-ridden.

“You speak as if I don’t work for one of the richest men in the entire country,” Olivia says, with a light roll of her eyes. “We’re married now, my dear. It won’t be cheap, but I know every real estate agent in the entire city. Marcy deserves an actual home.”
“She does,” Yunan agrees, with a sinking, hollow feeling in her chest that has absolutely nothing to do with the way Olivia had teased her. “You’re asking for a lot, you know? What happened to “I will never settle down with someone” Olivia from college?”
“She grew up,” Olivia deadpans.

Summary
“You think so little of me!” Yunan protests, eyes wide. The look on her face every time Olivia purposefully antagonizes her is just too amusing to pass up. “I was actually going to suggest we go out for a family breakfast. That new place that just opened a few blocks from here has amazing coffee, so I’ve heard.”
“That’s actually not half-bad an idea,” Olivia muses. “Alright.”
Yunan grins again, and then she’s ducking away to go shower. It’s a sign that Olivia should probably nudge Marcy back into the world of waking so that she can go get ready for the day, and yet she just sits there for awhile instead, book laying forgotten off to the side, fingers combing through Marcy’s hair. This, she thinks to herself, as her stomach flutters with a nervousness she never thought she’d feel, is dangerous.
