CHAPTER 1: During a fight on Cybertron, Optimus and Megatron get trapped in a cave-in. They run the calculations for a hopeless chance of rescue and begin to talk. Megatron tells of his origin as a mining bot, one of 5 who had been enslaved and mind-controlled by the Prime. When his brothers dug him out of a cave-in and sent him for needed repairs, Megatron escaped to become a fighter in the gladiator rings. Optimus and Megatron debate ethics and end goals, not able to truly see from the others’ point of view.
Bored and fully comfortable with himself, Megatron begins flirting in hopes of spending their processing power on sex. They begin discussing poetry. Megatron reveals that he is the mind behind the pen name the Voice of Tarn, Optimus’ favorite poet, and that his works are literal. He recites a poem of meeting 2 bots discussing the personal, violent experiences they had and how those experiences are what allow people to understand his work. Megatron reveals the privileged willfully misunderstand his points while the scorned/forgotten/abused know his speech is plain because it is their lived experience.
Optimus has another panic attack and Megatron pulls him out of it. He uses guided what-ifs to lead them into a session of mutual masturbation, vocally guiding Optimus through a scene. They interface mentally, emotionally, and physically with one another (while holding hands hnnng) to explore the other’s psyche, emotions, and experiences. Megatron has never felt hope like Optimus, becoming almost frantic searching for signs of his own worldview within Optimus’ systems.
Optimus adjusts Megatron’s untreated neurons to dampen his pain. Megatron dives deeper to try and find signs of self-serving motivations behind the kindness, but Optimus doesn’t have any alternative motives. Megatron draws them into the Matrix as Optimus realizes that Megatron’s worldview is cemented the way it is because he feels no love and he’s never been shown it. The Matrix takes the pair to the origins of Megatron’s conscious, where they watch his brothers rescue him.
Having re-lived it, Megatron has the context and experiences he needs to understand Optimus like Optimus now understands him. He was loved, and can now comprehend why love is such a driving force for Optimus. They cry together in the aftermath, still clutching laced hands.
The activation of the Matrix helps the autobots find them. The 2 sides work together and free Megatron and Optimus. The Matrix prompts Optimus to guide them all deeper into Cybertron where they find recordings from the old Prime that reveal duplicity and selfishness to all those present. Optimus gives Megatron the metal his brothers died finding and the blueprints for constructing a Matrix.
Optimus returns to earth to help the humans build defenses. 17 months pass before the Decepticons attack and the humans force them to retreat. Megatron meets with Optimus to port together and they share hours of pleasure. Once sated, Megatron reveals his Matrix, called the Oracle, has given him intergalactic victory. Optimus is horrified and worried for Earth. Megatron reveals that Optimus can rest because Earth is safe: he didn’t return until the humans could defend themselves, so a human-favorable treaty could be made without causing riots from his forces. Optimus realizes that Megatron loves him and Megatron invites Optimus to journey across the galaxy in order to find a Victory Condition, should it exist, that has room for BOTH self-determinative justice and love.
CHAPTER 2–3: Megatron’s love confession (via poem) that he embeds within the Oracle, to be passed on and hopefully given to Optimus as a punctuation mark to his death, followed by a full collection of the poetry written and shown in this fic.
