Because Aaron deserves perfect. He deserves a partner who is a real person, who is present, who makes good things happen for him. Robert will be that partner for him.
Robert catches Aaron’s hand before he can turn away, pulling him back in. Aaron lands with a soft thud in his arms. Robert squeezes and buries his nose in his shoulder.
“Mm,” Aaron hums. “What’s this for then?”
“Just,” Robert says, leaving the sentence unfinished.
“Just,” Aaron agrees, pressing a kiss into Robert’s hair.

Aaron can tell Robert’s uncomfortable. He doesn’t think anyone else has noticed it, the smile plastered on Robert’s face seems to be convincing enough for the other villagers. He seems engaged in the conversation Nicola and Laurel have roped him into, and he welcomes Jimmy and Tracey to the table with a handshake and a laugh.
He’s beautiful, glowing under the twinkling Christmas lights in the pub, Aaron could look at him all day.
But his smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes.

But we’ll come home, the three of us, and we’ll put a movie on, and you’ll let Seb eat his entire selection box in one go, because you’re an absolute soft touch, and it will have been perfect because we’re getting to spend Christmas together as a family for the first time.”
Maybe - just maybe - Robert is being a little obsessive about their first Christmas with Seb. And maybe - just maybe - Aaron fixes it.

Robert doesn't seem to be in a hurry to finish icing the gingerbread or indeed moving for that matter as he uses Aaron's body for a pillow—and Harry has started to snore as a result of the sugar crash, so Aaron thinks this is it—the perfect moment to bring it up.

None of this stops him from immediately developing a crush on the grumpy barista who annoys him, challenges him, and calls him out on his stupid coffee orders.
