It's the usual story, really. An incredibly powerful wizard, but not skilled enough to handle a spell that got out of hand anyway, starting a long string of side effects. It's nothing new, but this time too many elements were involved: two kingdoms at war, some perfect victims to be sacrificed without hurting public opinion, the usual lust for power. There was too much of everything, and the spellcaster was not the only one with a purpose he would give his life for. There were other people involved, all with magical powers.
It's the same old story, but this time the repercussions were not confined to a small area, and they were not resolved within a few months. Someone is still coming to terms with it all, thousands of years later. -

"I was unconscious, how should I know?" Ryou’s tone is a little more pungent than he intended, but he doesn't restrain himself. Bakura is the only one he doesn't have to worry about being polite to.
There is a moment of silence, but Ryou can sense anger, resentment, and irritation. These aren't the only emotions he feels coming from him, but Bakura is shielding himself behind the usual negativity. It's almost a constant for him. "Get yourself discharged as soon as possible, I don't want to be in the same room with that asshole."
"Spirit, I know you have mixed feelings about him, but-"
"Mixed feelings my ass, he gave the Rod to the Pharaoh!"

Summary
The Juragedo that attacked them, a monster made of darkness that shouldn't be on a mountain in broad daylight at all, is on the ground in a pool of blood. Unfortunately, the creature caught them off guard, and Bakura's leg wound looks bad. He's losing too much blood, and the cold penetrating his clothes and bones certainly doesn't help.
"Try again with those bandages. There should be an inn in this area, don't..." Bakura interrupts himself, a pained hiss escapes his lips.
"We won't make it to the fucking inn!" Marik dropped the bandages to the ground again, onto the white snow, and brought both hands to his temples. It's not a good sign. "Let... let him take over, he's a fucking healer!" -

"Look who is here," the stranger greets him, and Marik slips the helmet from his hands.
The noise is dull, but not enough to cover Ryou's voice, which, having appeared behind the other boy, confronts him in a tone Marik's rarely heard him use. "Bakura. I told you to leave it to me."
Ryou is annoyed, to the point where it shows even through his usual façade of polite manners, but Marik barely notices it. All he hears ringing in his ears is a name, the name of someone who should be dead, or lost forever in the Shadow Realm.
"And miss the chance to see his face?" The appearance is different, but the expression is definitely Bakura's, starting with the grin, and ending with the amused, sharp look.
