Summary
A reader once commented to me that just once, she'd like to see a story address the hurtful consequences that used to come to most people who were honest about their same-sex attraction. That was a long time ago. Ever since then, I've been meaning to write a story that did that, somehow it took me until now.
This one takes place in the fall of 1980. It takes place in Los Angeles, just before the first cases of HIV/AIDS started to turn up, and makes use of a story I once read about how right after West Hollywood first incorporated as a city in 1984, the first thing the mayor did was to walk into a restaurant there, and rip down the "No Fagots" sign that the owner had put up. ...It sort of makes use of it, references it anyway. ...And by the way, yes, I am aware of the misspelling here. It's how the word was spelled on the sign.
