A warm weight lands on his knees, and Peter almost pulls back, ready to run. Ready to disappear far, far away from campus, Cambridge, school, and skating forever. He’d messed up. He’d messed up so badly… and people would hate him for the rest of his life.
But the warm weight is a hand, and when Peter tries to get up, a second-hand grasps his wrist. It’s not rough, it’s almost nice.
Calming.
Grounding.
He looks up, finally snapping out of the panic. The anxiety doesn’t settle, but he’s breathing, and there isn’t a dark spot dancing before his eyes like Peter would dance on the ice. Instead, he looks at Sam Wilson himself. A worried look on his face as he kneels before Peter. Gets to his student’s level.

Michelle was staring at an Egyptian sarcophagus. It was gorgeous, painted to resemble a pharaoh of the time and shiny and gold all over. This particular level of the sarcophagus was stone— she figured there was a smaller wooden one stowed away inside. Within that, a mummy, if this wasn’t just the burial instrument and the remains inside hadn’t been sent off to some lab for analysis.
She was so focused on studying the artifact that she forgot why she’d broken all of the rules and uncovered it in the first place.
That harsh scraping sound came back, this time with renewed gusto. It was long and drawn out, and it only took Michelle a few seconds to realize where exactly it was coming from.
She did the one thing humans across all time periods were biologically trained to do when they were frightened: she screamed and tried to run away.
