“Anyway, hey—what’s this supposed to be?” He waves at a set of brass scales on Evie’s desk—he’s pretty sure they’re meant to be scales, anyway.
“Assayer’s scales,” says Jacob, stepping closer. “Took this right out of the Bank of England after I killed Twopenny. Far as I know, he used them to weigh up the shillings he stole from the people of England.” He touches one end of the scale, then shakes his head with a small, sad smile. “It’s not the real thing,” he says. “It used to creak something fierce, so I passed it to Evie.”
