#6: Pride
His mother pulls out a wooden spoon from the container beside the stove and whips him on the face with it so hard that one of his teeth falls out onto the kitchen’s tile floor. He watches the blood dribble down from his mouth onto the white as his mother yells at him for coming to tell her that he threw up while she was drinking wine with her friends, yelling at him for always ruining everything.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ruin anything.”
They’re going to leave him behind. They’re going to all live their wondrous lives, hanging out at lunch everyday, and Logan’s going to become… something bad. Something terrible. Something that’s better off dead. Something worth less than a sewer rat.
“You didn’t ruin anything, Logan, promise. We care about you. We want you to come to us if you need help - we’re glad you called.”
