You shut the door behind you, and vaguely wondered if Buck had gotten a new sound system. It sounded good. You meandered inside, pulling your wallet out of your pocket and looking around for Dally. When you rounded the corner and approached the bar, the music got louder. You turned around to see where it was coming from, and your mouth fell open.
There he was. Dally was on top of Buck’s pool table, and the more you stared at him, the more confused you became. He had a guitar in his hand, and he was playing it. It took you a moment to realize he was singing, too.
He looked like a real hillbilly. He had on an unbuttoned plaid shirt, and someone’s raggedy old cowboy hat. You could only sit there, blinking in surprise.
Even weirder, he was good. The way he strummed the guitar, singing some up-beat country song about girls and boots, you knew he’d been doing this for a while. He swung his head back, belting out the lyrics of the song. Some of the people gathered around sang along. His voice was deep and smooth, and he hit every note.
