Only then the whole "big, scary, intimidating" part of that plan... doesn't quite work out as anticipated. On the plus side, it's still pretty effective, as defense mechanisms go.

Set between the last chapter and epilogue, Olive and Adam's love story continues. With Olive receiving a lab spot at Berkeley, she's working hard to get there and make her mark in the Biology world. Adam of course is supportive and is the best he could be for her. But as Olive dives deeper into her research setting things in motion for a clinical trial, she'll realize she's not that far removed from her home and will need to look back and look into those hard memories she tries hard to not remember daily. Adam is right there with her, slowly chipping away at the walls she built around those memories. Letting Olive know that she's allowed to fall, she's allowed to revisit those places, literally and figuratively and he'd be there the catch her. Regardless of where the roads they take lead them.

He shook off the thought and glanced around, realizing that his walk may have taken him to the private residences of the Jiang Clan. He considered just leaving, looking to avoid disturbing the man.
But then, the man suddenly stopped humming. He tilted his head as if listening for something.
“Wow,” the man said, turning around. He opened his eyes and Lan Wangji was struck at the sight of the light gray, almost silvery eyes.
