Summary
Francis is having a hard time adjusting after they defeat Zhouzel. It's weird living somewhere that isn't his house, with people who are not his parents but are his family. It's hard to adjust to having only one leg, and it's hard to feel like he deserves better than the shitty hand he's been dealt. Kelsey, Blake, and Trudy notice, and they also notice that when Francis is especially struggling, he tends to act like a little kid...
Now how do they confront him about it, and how do they help him with his regression? This won't be easy...

Francis' suicidal thoughts did not begin when he found out his parent's were evil or when he became a kid with a gun. Long before he decided to join a bowling team he was still the most bullied kid in Peachyville, and that does something to a kid.

“[...] and you see in Laika’s eyes the glint of the stars, and you see the light in Laika’s eyes go out.”

Maybe it was just that Laika was too kind a dog to have been involved in any of this. Maybe Francis was just tired of getting his hopes up for a moment, just to have them entirely crushed.
“None of us are surviving this,” He’d said, and everyone had turned, had stared at him like he’d said something disturbing- like he’d talked about killing himself again. But he was right, wasn’t he? Even Laika, who was a brave, good girl, who never did anything wrong and loved treats and loved the stars, couldn’t survive this.
