Jess knew the exact day that it happened. When she went to bed on November second, 2005, everything was fine. On the morning of November third, she woke up dead.
Everything stayed the same. She still showed up to her classes. Her grades didn’t fall. At work, she went through all the motions of stocking shelves and checking out customers. Sam proposed that year in a cute little Italian restaurant that looked out over the bay. She got into UC Law San Francisco.
It was just that Jess was hollow. It was like somewhere along the line, she put herself down and forgot to pick it back up. There was only a shred of her left, haunting an empty husk.
